Nice build and the headers looks great. I’m sure there will be a slew of fastbacks being built this year by Ford fans with the revised AMT kit that just came out.

Oh yes Gary will build a car and it will be awesome. In the mean time he will get a laugh (I hope) from the back and forth. -

Good points and as always buyer beware on Ebay. It would take someone that had a spare MPC MKIV kit to complete it since those kits share a lot of common parts including the complete suspension. Even the Hard Castle & McCormick Coyote would probably suffice as a donor kit but I would have to dig mine out to be sure. The clear body of the J-car kit is the one thing that has never been copied or reissued so seeing just that for sale is unusual. If someone is serious about buying this one on Ebay I probably have all the “missing” parts they would need for trade. I have no connection with the Ebay seller. -

I would have bought it if I had not built one already. -

Cool idea. This is what Foose should have built. -

Great start on a kit that you rarely see built due to how scarce they are. -
Very nice job on a finicky kit. The color looks spot on and the finish is perfect.

Beautiful paint and detailing.

1/25 AMT 1966 Mustang GT -- Original Annual & Modified Reissue
vamach1 replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I pretty much assumed that will never happen (a new chassis) but I remember in the 1980’s trying to do a 65 Shelby GT350 version with the AMT coupe kit and a resin “roof” and a vacuum formed interior, but the stock 289 exhaust manifolds just did not cut it. At least I was not stuck with the promo based molded in single exhaust and I scratch built the side exhaust.- 216 replies

If there is a Shelby version they need to come up with a good set of headers. It just does not look right with the tired old 260/289 engine that has not changed in 60 years. A Shelby oil pan would be cool too.- 216 replies

Looks great. -
You can always redo the decals with a set from Indycals or Starfighter.
-
The body stying differences between 97 and 99 are distinctive (hood, side scoops, taillights) so the engine may be the easy part.
-
Sadly no 1999-2004 GT or Saleens, 2003-2004 Cobras or 2003-2004 Mach1 kits were made. For whatever reason the model companies just abandoned Mustang kits until the 2005 Models came out which IMHO were not as cool. The 1998 Super Stallion would not be of much help to make a stock GT.

Check the Model car Mustangs page on Facebook. I’ve seen some conversions done but not sure if anyone is selling any 3D parts yet. I have a 2003 Cobra and of course there is no model kit made, just 1/18 diecast but not in my color either.

At this rate I think SAE would have not be able to put them out as quickly.
-
Sounds like a good candidate for a 3D printed version.

Thanks. My MPC kit was molded in clear and had both nose options. I’ve never seen a non-clear version. The later MKIV kit shares a lot of parts with the J-Car version and was molded in white or red. -

Here’s some inspiration. The MPC kit straight out of the box except for the taillights that I borrowed from the 69 Shelby Mustang and I think I cut some vents in the roof. I brought this build to the first Philly NNL show and it was photographed for the SAE contest issue and I think the only reason it made it in print was you almost never see one displayed at a show due to the kits rareity. I built the IMC one also but that kits body just looks too short. -

Excellent bui;d and the underside is very realistic and the steel wheels give it that no frills racer look. -
Looks great and with the added details like the shock tower braces, brake booster and master cylinder and plus wire boots to name a few.

Stange that no one bothers to post the return of this show here after a four year absence. I went in 2019 and it was a great show.
