More on Molotow pens
Jon Haigwood replied to smhardesty's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I actually inadvertently left the cap off a 2mm pen for several hours and it did not seem to effect it. I did (again inadvertently) pull the tip all the way out and noticed the other end had the same rounded shape. -

More on Molotow pens
Jon Haigwood replied to smhardesty's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
One some cars the window trim was not as shiny as chrome, more of a aluminum finish. So Molotow chrome with a clear that dulled it a bit might just bring it to the right finish I just did the window trim on a practice body by taping it off with Tamya tape. I looks good, just waiting for sufficient drying time before I test it for durability. Added a coat of future over the chrome and it did dull it some. -

I read it works better than BMF. How much are you willing to pay not to have to deal with the BMF headaches ? I haven't tried it on window trim yet myself but soon -
More on Molotow pens

I have a 1mm and a 2mm and I am a bit surprised at the the difference in size I can imagine the 4mm would work for doing the entire bodies. I did have an issue when doing the edge of a wheel where it was removed from the tree. The area I touched up was dull and bumpy. I made sure the area was smooth but that made no difference . I thought if I put just the rim in some purple pond that I could try again but it weeped up the side about halfway and removed the chrome. Ended up de-chroming the.entire wheel and applied the Molotow. Wheel looks great but has a lighter cast to it than the kit chrome but theouter edge still came out dull. I tried some over Future and it worked well. I will try some future on the wheel edge and see if that helps. -
Any body know of a tutorial on the new Molotow Chrome pens ? So far I have had mixed resuts.

To me this looks out of scale, too large. But true to scale the detailing may get lost in the reduction ?

1969 Dodge Super Bee HELP
Jon Haigwood replied to 72 Charger's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Actually thanks for posting the question I have been building a lot of Mopar Muscle and continually try to improve my detailing and accuracy on their engines. This has made me stop and think about the PVC systems and how they are installed on various engines. Now I have to go back and check the finished cars for correctness -

Pre PVC systems removed the positive pressure by air flow as stated above. PVC systems used the intake to recirculate the un-burned fuel. I worked as a lube tech at a Chrysler/Plymouth dealer in the early 70's and I never saw a single engine with a smooth cover. Your best option like 6bblbird said above, dechrome and add a PVC -
Thanks great info. Years ago I attempted to put a Flattie in Tweedy Pie as build it the way it was originally built. I didn't do any mock ups and when I tried to put the engine in it was a bit longer than I had room for. Is there any other situations where the length of the flathead is longer than the OHV V8?

Doing a google search for 440 valve covers you do find a few that are smooth but they are after market may be intended for non street use. Pre PVC days there was setups that had a breather on one cover and a overdraft tube coming from the other cover (see pic 1) Older styles had a breather on the intake manifold and an overdraft tube on the back of the intake (see pic 2) PVC were basically a safety valve for positive ventilation systems. The fumes in the crankcase are volatile and the valve (anti-blowback valve) prevented any flames from coming from the air cleaner in a backfire situation. -

The one on the top of my list would be my 67 Camaro SS/RS 350 that I bought for $1,795.(early 70's) My list would be 66 Barracuda 49 Ford 2dr sedan 49 Mercury 2dr 64 Olds Cutless F85 65 Mustang Fastback 54 Ford Convertable 52 Ford 2dr Wagon 58 Pontiac Chieftain 31 Model A Roadster 67 Mercury Caliente 2dr hdtp 91 Thunderbird SC 58 Thunderbird 58 BMW Isetta Probably a few more but I can't think of right now The list for cars I wouldn't like to have back is far greater than this one. As far as the one that got away as in almost owned was a 61 Corvette Roadster that was at a car lot for $1,300 but my girlfriend at the time said she didn't want me to buy it. That was back in the 70's and we have been married for 48 years and I am still pissed at her about it. -
