  1. nice job on a kit that is somewhat basic but has a decent wrecker bed. Very clean and detailed.
  2. Very nice Chuck! Love the cab marker lights, clean and subtle!
  3. Chuck, If you had two toned that paint job with some white it could have been an U-Haul service truck! Nice job on it, you got me thinking this could be an option for one of those Modelhaus utility bodies sitting in the stash.
  4. At 8 AM this morning one could buy this kit at Squadron for the web special price of $50.62 and here it is 12 hours later and it's back to $56.24! Don't understand this fluctuating pricing, might have to re-think ordering from them if they throw out specials and the prices are all over the place.
  5. Interesting, I ordered 1 on Friday and I don't think it was that cheap. I will have to check my order.
  6. I'm like you Harry, up for a challenge! A couple of years ago my old Sears garage door opener was giving up and I decided to buy a new one. After re-thinking that decision, I got out the ladder and crawled up to see what was wrong with it. Turns out a couple of worn out plastic gears from not having any grease on them was the problem. Wrote down the model and serial numbers, went to the Sears website and saw that the parts were in stock at the local outlet! $20 and about an hour later and my door was working fine! Twice a year a I climb up the ladder and slap some white lithium grease on the gears and she purrs like a brand new unit! My unit is from the pre-safety beam days so as long as I can keep it running, I will. Best of luck in your repairs!
  7. If you are referring to the 6 lug rally wheel, contact Casey, I think he was casting them at one time. They can also be found in the older Monogram Chevy pickup kit. Might be able to use the grille from that same kit for your conversion.
  8. That Suburban and Van look like they could be from the old Emergency! TV show. Looking forward to seeing them completed.
  9. coming along nicely. should be easy to build without instructions, not a very complicated kit.
  10. My plans would be to form a family corporation and make relatives employees of the corporation. It would structured in such a way that no one person could decide for the others how much to pay the employees, it would be up to a board of directors that would include outside people (accountant, tax lawyer, clergyman). There would be some serious financial planning done so the money would be around for awhile and charity work as well. Personally I would quit my current job and do some volunteer work and possibly open a small business, something automotive related most likely. I would spend more time working on models and car related projects but don't think I would go too crazy, again because as an employee, my wages would be limited. Interesting topic.
  11. It really is a sad commentary on how the buying public doesn't understand the correlation between price and quality. Retailers also haven't helped the cause with their liberal return policies as that has contributed greatly to the lower price/cheaper quality. I worked at a Sears Paint & Hardware store in the early 90's, mostly to increase my tool count in the garage but also to supplement my income before we had children. The abuse of Sears' policies by customers was unbelievable! Retired guys going to garage sales and buying bent screwdrivers and coming in for a replacement, carpenters who bought a tape measure and then came in once a month for a free replacement once the tape broke, people "buying" an electric chainsaw and returning it 2 hours later, once they cut the tree down and demanding a cash refund. It was mind boggling and all done in the name of "customer service" and look where that has gotten us as a society! No longer are we responsible for our actions as long as someone other than us will pay for them. I have a lot of Craftsman tools, most are from the 80's & 90's and have taken great care of them. Probably will hand them down one day to my son. I also have Snap On and S-K tools and have always made sure they were not abused. I bought a new Milwaukee cordless drill after Christmas and was shocked to see that it was made in China. I have other Milwaukee tools that have served me well for years that were US made and that is why I bought the drill. My father used them too for many years in the building trades and they were among the best you could buy, but now it seems they are content building them for the retail market more than the industrial and building trades.
  12. I saw these race at Sonoma in 2012, was impressed how they dominated the field, especially against BMWs. Not sure if I would build one but glad to see these subjects come to market. There is a huge variety of kits available to us modelers so everyone has something to build!
  13. Yes! I am in for a couple if he does!
  14. Thanks for the updates Dave and while slightly disappointed that the Ford trucks aren't going to be ready until late summer, they are worth the wait based on the pictures! Glad to see you stepping up and offering some much needed kits and wish you much success with them.
  15. Welcome aboard Mike! Lot's of great people and inspiration here so make yourself comfortable and enjoy!
  16. Wheel looks great, but those calipers are looking pretty crusty, I think you have another project next weekend Harry!
  17. Harry, If you plan on driving this car in the terrible winter weather of Chicago, why not have these as your "winter" wheels and look into a set for the nicer weather? Check out The Tire Rack or Discount Tire for new wheels and there are always a bunch of car shows and swap meets where you might be able to find a set of matching factory wheels discounted. Polishing those wheels by hand one at a time will definitely take some muscle and time, hope you are up for the challenge!
  18. Dang it Larry, I blame you for not supporting them enough to stay open! I enjoyed going to KCs Hobby Shop whenever I traveled on I-85 that way. I remember going to a seminar there one Saturday morning with my daughter and we both got a Revell Snap 70 Chevelle as a gift. Bought some paint and a couple of models too. Their R/C section was pretty impressive and always seemed to be pretty busy whenever I was in there, did notice the plastic kit area kept shrinking over the last couple of years. I have always said if I could open a hobby shop and not rely on it for a living, I would do it. In addition to dreaming about winning the lottery and having a nice classic 1:1 car collection, I also think about opening a hobby shop and live out my days building cars and trucks!
  19. Very nice pair of trucks and really like the wrecker.
  20. Gregg, If you are ordering the utility bed, for a couple bucks more Modelhaus has dually wheels that should work. I haven't had time to dig mine out and check the fit but am confident that they will do fine.
  21. Hard question to answer, but I can tell you that I have been thinning the stash as I have realized that no matter what, I have more than I need!
  22. It is a 40 year old kit and shows it's age. I have one almost completed and don't recall any real issues. Pretty much the only game in town for this vehicle and despite a less than inspiring chassis, it build pretty decently. If you can find one at a reasonable price, go for it!
  23. Its getting closer to being done! Looking great, can we expect it to be done by the weekend?
