Promo style chassises
mikemodeler replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That is exactly why about half my finished builds are Revell Snappers! And for the glue kits that I have finished, the chassis detail depends on the kit and what came in it. With little exception, I am using what the manufacturer gave me. Some paint and I am good to go! I have done a few chassis swaps, but it was to get what I wanted, like using the 84 GMC Deserter kit to give me a 4x4 chassis to put a 72 Chevy pickup on. Swapped a couple of pro street chassis too. I struggle to get em finished, with a shiny paint job and some decent foil or chrome pen work to boot. I look at the hobby as a form of relaxing and expressing my artsy side and try not to get caught up in minute details and historical accuracy. Some have a different opinion and strive for accuracy that I will never achieve and I am okay with that. The Modelhaus crew cab 64 Dodge pickup that cost me $105 has an accurate (to my eye) body and decent interior. The chassis Don supplied with it is a promo style and somewhat disappointing but understandable. I might explore using something else when the time comes to build it as I would like to alter the ride height or possibly make it into a 4x4. -
Nice work on all of them, great variety! Is that Chevette a promo or glue kit?

Great work on all of them, love them all. Your weathering is spot on, love how all the vehicles have some degree of weathering but not overdone!

Sounds like living in Idaho is agreeing with you Rob! Congrats on the move and nice job on the Willys!

Don't forget about the 69 Yenko Corvette! Hopefully they release a base or COPO version. -

I remember buying a bunch of those silver Camaros at Michael's after a Saturday morning make and take for $5 a piece, those wheels and tires updated a few Revell snappers into restomods. -

Revell 1968 Chevy Chevelle SS 396...........My take

I would think it would be the most logical choice. Might have to modify the exhaust but shouldn't be too big a deal. -
Straight onto the bench from the mailbox! 1968 Chevelle!
mikemodeler replied to Superbird McMonte's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I was thinking the same thing! I could see the body sitting on saw horses while the frame is sitting off to the side with the drivetrain installed.- 32 replies

Straight onto the bench from the mailbox! 1968 Chevelle!
mikemodeler replied to Superbird McMonte's topic in WIP: Model Cars
MegaHobby had 300 orders for the 68 Chevelle to ship out Friday morning, basically the first day it was available to ship (Brett can confirm/correct this if I am off) so I would say it's going to do well out of the gate! Mine will be here tomorrow and while I won't start on it for a bit, I am excited to get one built.- 32 replies

Revell 1968 Chevy Chevelle SS 396...........My take
mikemodeler replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I agree and will add that the 70 Monte Carlo would be a good source for a big block'TH-400 combo. Thanks for sharing Bill, now I have to get my butt to my work bench and clean up the pile of WIPs so I can get this one started soon! -
Estate Planning - all those models in the basement
mikemodeler replied to <profile removed>'s topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Like many others, I have been trying to reduce the amount of kits in the stash as reality has set in that I can't possibly build them all. My wife has accompanied me to several shows and has a vague idea what they are worth. She knows enough to not drop them off at Goodwill or take them to a landfill. Over the holidays we will be writing out what we want our final wishes to be and in that list I will layout plans for my models, my guns and my tools which collectively is in excess of $25,000 and I don't want her giving any of it away. Some will be sold, some will go to family and hopefully nothing ends up being tossed. I want to thin it down as best I can so as to make it easier for whomever is left behind to deal with it. -
Revell 1968 Chevelle now in stock and shipping
mikemodeler replied to Brett Barrow's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I ordered mine Thursday night and it shipped out on Friday morning. From NJ to NC is a bit shorter bus ride than NJ to Minnysoda. In talking with their customer service department, they had a TON of orders to process on the Chevelle alone. I am sure it will be worth the wait. -

I ordered Thursday night, it shipped on Friday and should be in NC by Christmas Eve. I would think if you had ordered it yesterday you would have had it by next Wednesday, even in corn country! -
Are you looking for exact replacements or something different? Danny at Scenes Unlimited has some nice tires and wheels if you are looking for a different look. He's closed for the holidays but will be open January 2 and he is a fast shipper. Fireball has some nice GM truck wheel and tire sets but more along the stock side and not big tires.

AMT '63 Corvette kit
mikemodeler replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You are correct, 1965 was the first year for disc brakes on the Corvette; 1963 & 64 models had drum brakes on all 4 corners. -
Placed two orders last night - one with MegaHobby and one with Modelroundup- and had notifications that they both had shipped this afternoon. Can't wait to get my hands on them and start building. I will post pictures when they arrive.

I called customer service this morning, they had 300 orders for this kit last night alone! Anyone looking for the Moebius F100 4x4 kit? They have that in stock too, for a great price I might add! -

Any up dates on the Moebius chevy II gasser ?
mikemodeler replied to Mr mopar's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
There is a whole other side of Moebius that you might not be aware of- sci-fi models and I think that is what they were truly after. There are more models and apparently interest on that side of the of the business than there is the automotive side. Too soon to tell, but if it will take a letter writing campaign to get some results, we should all start today! -

Hooking up your airbrush to your compressor
mikemodeler replied to Greg Myers's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I take it you have a compressor with an air tank? That would explain not running it while painting.
