  1. I've been looking for a complete tandem drive assembly. The only one I found is AITM's Hendrickson setup. The other vendors seems to have only bits. Any suggestions?
  2. Gator, that crane is beautiful. Very detailed. The rams are aluminum tubes, the castings are nice and crisp, the PE is fantastic. It will be a bit challenging to build but should be a good one. I remembered comments on here about ill fitting doors. So I got at them before it is too late. Wow! They're quite the chore all right. Still waiting for opinions about the transmission, and the engine too maybe.
  3. Last question in the first post:" Hope you all like it." Well, we all sure do as you can see by the response. It is gorgeous. If that is your first kit since you were a kid, I can't wait to see what's next.
  4. Taking aboutbad starts. I thought I'd paint this right away since the "FTB corporate blue" takes a long time to dry. I got a few wrinkles and a less than smooth , almost sandpapery finish. To strip or not to strip. I think I'll let it harden and try to sand it. I'd like to put something with a little more Oomph into it. This looks like it might fit. That opens up a can of worms about the transmission. I think what is on the V10 is a six speed with likely two overdrives. Then there is the five speed on the 361.However it drove through a two speed rear end which won't be there in the tandem arrangement. I realize that whoever will see the truck on the shelf couldn't care less but what would be the most plausible combination? This is the layout more or less. I'll have to check whether the gas tanks will be in the way of the outriggers. I already know the battery box doesn't fit any more between the front spring hanger and the tank.
  5. I think it might have looked funny, single drive on a long wheelbase like that. It will give it some "heft".
  6. Received another photo from a former work colleague who also found it in his dad's albums. Still in the pre-1969 livery but in color.
  7. Yesterday, an NTC 350 Cummins. But the real reason for the purchase is the 5/4 transmission combo which will find its way into the GMC B-7000.
  8. Off to a bad start with the posting too. the second attachment should have been this:
  9. I had started a planning thread here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=103048#entry1452310 Contrary to what I sais above I decided to go tandem. It'll look somewhat like the one in Chuck's post #5 in the planning thread. Off to a bad start. I started off splicing a section of frame rail between the front and rear halves of the dodge then I remembered that wouldn't work for a tandem. DUH!!!!! So I took it apart and cobbled a frame that should fit under the cab/crane/deck. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=103048#entry1452310
  10. A drop of "future" may be sufficient to hold it too and not mar the chrome.
  11. OK. Now I have to figure by how much to Lenten my frame. I have the Crane base measurement and the deck measurement which I will scratch build to the dimensions of the Ford C-600's. What I need to know is the length of the overhang past the end of the frame on the Ford C-600.
  12. Thanks Joe. Lots of firsts in there.
  13. Thanks for the offer Robert. My 702 is almost done. I have a WIP thread in big rigs. I'd like you to check it out.
  14. Here is the Wiki thing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_International_Harvester/Navistar_enginesThey often went with the name, red, green, black, blue etc. Do a search with Blue Diamond engine images, red diamond, etc. They show you several. Hope this helps
  15. Merci Marc. Added fuel lines and the oil line to the governors, Fan, coils, exhaust manifolds. So she's pretty well done. I need to do several touch-ups, paint the air filter elements and add the proper valve covers. I am satisfied with the outcome. It does look a bit like a 702.
  16. Did you make that little holder yourself?
  17. I have a little cutter like the one on the right but it doesn't work with anything under 1/8" and even that is tricky. I have used all the methods described above. My next move was going to be a cutting disc in the rotary tool but how do you hold the 1/16" end? I suppose you could put your short piece in the vise and cut flush to the vise.
  18. What is the best way to cut very small brass & aluminum tubing? I was using the razor saw but it obviously doesn't like it.
  19. Added the starter and generator. And, following up on 426-HEMI's example I started making belts out of styrene strips.
  20. A B-61, a V16, a V12, a saddle tank.
  21. Added carbs, ignition harnesses, distributors, air compressor & oil filter.
  22. Thanks Wayne, Donovan & JT. Can you tell I'm having fun?
  23. After much thought and reading all the responses here, I think it'll be single drive with a stretched frame of course to accommodate the crane and the flat deck.
  24. In a hotel parking lot, a serious lowboy. I wonder what the capacity of that is. 200t? This truck is pretty well the only one which can negotiaite the local streets without damage. A nice old Jeep. And finally, my own rig. 2005 Raleigh, 28 in. wheels, 21 speeds, one geezer power. And the rating varies with what the geezer had for breakfast.
  25. Here's an overall view. there is a wall rack coming up to hang the ratchet straps that are on the ground as well as some lifting slings.
