Using heat does the trick, but DON'T BURN YOURSELF. Keep the styrene rod far enough away from your heat source, and as soon as you feel the styrene "getting loose" ( before it shrivels up), bend it around a form to get the angles uniform, then let it cool down on it's own. Years ago, I used a lit cigarette to heat the styrene, but I don't smoke any more.....wished I never had started! Anyway, using that method, this is an example of uniform bends to make headers. These are 1/32 scale, so .060 in diameter.

I'm usually not overly interested in drag cars ( they're SO complicated technically to me) , but this caught my eye. Hoping to learn a bit about how these bad boys are built. Already learning a lot from other guys' builds, so just have some fun, I'll just watch. -
AMT '40 Ford Sedan early 60's style drag car updated 3/29/14

There are probably a bunch of us "old guys" here that built that kit, often having several back in the day. It's a classic! You're doing a great job, so don't give up on it! Really want to see this one finished! -
Your build on this really knocked me out! I've spent a bit more time looking it over, and found other things that are done very nicely. There's more to this model than the initial impact, which is WOW! For example, I just noticed that you Z'd the frame by the firewall. I hadn't noticed that before. And aside from the valve stems, it appears that you have black-washed the lug area, which makes it look very real. And the grille definately suits the car! The more I look, the more I like!

Great looking car! I'd like to see some salt on it. Where did you get the tires? Also , nice decals! -
Every piece is top-notch! Beautiful work sir! I really like the detail inside the dragster. Great job!

Got to spend some time in my little shop this afternoon. Still working on this small project, but today , I was having some FUN! Got the curtains figured out, the support rods for fenders were made from a paper clip, and I'm using the hinges and handles from a '37 Ford. I thought the 1/2 round coming off the bubble windows gave it an "Art Deco" feel. Thanks for looking.

That's sooooo cool! Simple and BAD! I love it! Also love the valve stems.

Shardik, I only used the Chevy as an example of the condition I got the Ford. Sorry for any confusion. I may tackle the Chevy in the future. Again, sorry about that. BTW, your Chevy looks really nice done stock!
