I'm building a '34 Woodie but it's really a Speedwagon

Love cars and trucks from the 30's! Love woodies too! I'll watch this build for sure! -
Thanks for your compliments guys.

A view of the interior. Guage bezels are aluminum tube...polished. Door inserts and seat inserts from an old kerchief. Aluminum tube for the column. Dash...body colour. The guages were hand painted (back when my eyesight was much better).

Both models are 1/32 scale built a number of years ago. The Willys was in extremely bad shape when I received it. It was meant to be Stone, Woods and Cook I believe. I decided to make into a street rod. The trailer was my first attempt to scratchbuild one. The curtains in the trailer match the upholstery inside the car. They also share matching taillights and a split rear window. The paint was a mix of Testors enamels. Just another (tiny) blast from the past.

I build for Fun, I build for myself.
wayne swayze replied to Pete J.'s topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
To me, each model project has a "life". There's the initial excitement of a new "idea", then the planning stage, followed by the gathering of the parts needed, then the build begins. This is where I either have planned an "easy" build, or a more detailed one. Oddly, sometimes the "easy" builds are so much fun, that they demand more detail, and to me, that's where the real fun begins. I believe the more you learn how to achieve, the more you're compelled to do on most builds after. And sometimes the models that you have big plans for, end up in a drawer, because you've over-thought it. But being creative and having fun is at the root of all great hobbies. -
Looks real nice! Love the colour. Nice one Ray!

Just wanted to let you know how lucky I feel having been introduced to this model car site and the great bunch of guys that hang out here! I'm a loner (No Club...Lone wolf), and to have folks to learn from, converse with, and see such terrific workmanship is just what I needed! Today, I would like very much to thank "pack rat" for directing me to a hobby shop to find the paint I was looking for. This is a great place to be!

Thanks so much "pack rat" ! I took the drive to Dundas Valley Hobby shop and found Metalizer paint there. They are almost out of it, and will be unable to get more. The gentleman at the hobby shop thinks it's unfair to model builders to disallow certain items to be sent across the border. I agree! -
That's a pretty cool effect! I like it.

Lookin' wicked good Stan!

Have you noticed all the middle age/older guys at toy shows and model contests? Sheesh! Most of us are straight-up guys with a great hobby! Just ignore these opinionated jerks!

Haven't decided about a tow vehicle yet....maybe the Merc woody.... maybe the '34 pickup in this earlier photo. I'm going to attempt to make the trailer a bit like a woody, that's the plan. When I started the trailer, I was remembering the cult T.V. program called "Twin Peaks". So the fenders have peaks, the body of the trailer painted red, and the curtains sorta resemble the pattern on the floor in the surreal episode (?) And the lower portion of the trailer done in "wood". I've already built custom housings for '59 Caddy taillights. If anyone knows of a kit with Washington state license plates, please let me know. Thanks for your interest.

Thanks Bob. I like to do subtle things that change things up. -
This is yet another build sitting on the bench wanting my attention. It will be curbside, unlike the gorgeous trailer posted here a short time ago. Today, I worked on the circular windows for the sides. The "glass" is from the ancient "Hyper Hut" custom van, while the chrome rings are beauty rings from unknown source. I'll be using the wheels and caps from the Monogram '56 T-Bird, and the cycle fenders from the AMT '25 T.

Thanks Mike! Hope to check that out soon. Have you heard anything about Metalizers not being allowed into Canada? Or was it my LHS?
