  1. Very interesting, VERY cool! The great thing about this body style is that it's so ugly to start with, nothing you can do to customize it could make it any worse, and who knows, you just might improve it a little! Thanks for sharing these!
  2. It's Testor enamel, cut with lacquer thinner and airbrushed. I've used the Testor Wet Look Clear over the stuff with no problems. Spoon test sounds like a good idea, thanks!
  3. Now we're getting somewhere! Imagine it without the big rear wing. Also, in one color overall. I'm leaning toward a dark primer gray just because I have several other things in satin black. I'm not sure if the fender-top scoops are in the box or not, would have to look, but I wasn't really planning on using them. But this one has the sit, the attitude, and the wheel/tire look I have in mind. Just about perfect, in fact. Thanks!
  4. I have that kit, NIB, and might actually build that someday. BTW, that might be the best picture I've ever seen of it, so, Thanks!
  5. I tried and tried, I really did, but I have no idea what you're trying to say.
  6. I go to Walmart on Thursday, I'll look for it. But I've heard bad things about Rustoleum over other paints.....
  7. That's not bad. Fred Goeske ran a '68 RR in funny car. Might be fun to do a phantom Superbird car of his. The MPC GTO Judge chassis might work, and I have one whose body is going to be used for a '69 GTO stocker. I'd have to find Goeske decals, though. Or maybe even Prudhomme or McEwen! The idea is to have MORE built models on the shelf and FEWER half-built "projects" stacked up in boxes. So far, I'm still leaning towards a NASCAR-look street bomber, but without the big rear wing. Maybe a small wing, like the ones on the Barracudas, or even a spoiler like the 2G Camaros/Firebirds. That could be interesting.
  8. She says she got them at the local Nike outlet store over a year ago. They're kids' shoes. (TLMS is a small lady.) The name on them is Revolution 4, if that means anything.
  9. Interesting, didn't know that; thanks! Not gonna chop up a '70 Coronet to build up the junk Bird, but I will take a look at the wheel openings between the two to see if I can fix or improve the ones on the stocker in some way. I like the "out of the box" thinking, but that would leave me with a perfectly good Superbird body, hood, interior, chassis, etc., and I'd be back asking what to do with them. But thanks anyway, old friend! Now that's interesting. I'm not really a fan of convertibles, and I'm not sure one would "work" well on this body, but now you have me thinking of other possible body styles. 2- door wagon? Sedan delivery? Camino/Ranchero type truck? Hmmmmmm...... I like the idea of a car that's being driven/used--a LOT--but something several degrees less trashy than JD's four-color Dodge. But lower it and paint it all one color and we're maybe getting there.... If I had a resin or parts box '70 RR or GTX grille and bumper, I'd be making it a stock RR or GTX. Lessee, buy another new kit, and then aftermarket decals for it, and then scratchbuild the wing. Lotta $$$ and effort but I'm not really that much of a NASCAR fan--in fact, I've built a couple street cars with NASCAR-look inspiration, but I've never built a model of an actual NASCAR racer. Here again, not interested in sacrificing another whole kit just to make something out of this junk.
  10. That's HIGH praise, Nazz! Take a bow and/or a victory lap!
  11. Spent all day trying to polish the paint on my '66 Mustang street freak. The Krylon Clear gloss fought me all the way. My faithful Wright's Silver Cream got it smooth, but it left a fine "chalky" appearance. I discovered that color-sanding it with #2000 wet and then polishing with Turtle Heavy Duty Polish & Cleaner (the gritty, red stuff) gave a semi-acceptable appearance, but then cleaning with water brought the chalky out again. Gonna sleep on it, and then tomorrow I'm gonna see if I can strip off the Krylon with ISO alcohol without stripping the Testor Dark Blue underneath it (or any of the bodywork under that). Then I'll try shooting a few more coats of the Testor Blue, and then polish that. Or maybe clear it with Testor Glosscote. So what I accomplished today is, I learned that Krylon Clear Gloss is garbage. Better to learn it on this simple paint job than on something I had a lot more time and effort (any maybe more rare/expensive color paint) in. Ah shucks oh well.
  12. I've used MM Classic White before and never had that problem. It's a bad bottle/batch. Take it back and exchange it or get your money back, and/or complain to Testor. For what they charge for their stuff, the least they can do is deliver a quality product.
  13. I just realized, this is the time of year I SHOULD be enjoying Battlebots every Friday night on Discovery Channel. Instead, they're giving us stop-gap programming about the Gold Miners, and about how they're NOT mining gold yet this year, what they're doing instead of mining gold, how much they want to get back to mining gold etc etc etc. I wonder how long they can milk this?
  14. I built a Walther P.38 from a cigar box full of random WWII parts and a .22 conversion set I found on eBay. Shoots pretty well, too!
  15. Nothing wrong with that car that a couple afternoons and a case or two of rattlecan primer couldn't fix!
  16. Very nice, great color and finish! Well done and model on!
  17. Bought a JoHan '70 Superbird "junkyard" off eBay for about half (or less) what the unbuilt kits go for these days. All the stuff's in the box for one complete factory stock car, which is what I'll do with that one. I'm looking for ideas for the second one. Body, chassis, glass, hood, interior tub and nosepiece are here--all the important stuff. It's missing the wing, rear bumper, and stock dashboard (there are two racing dashboards in the box). Don't need to try to build it stock as I already have that covered. Looking to do some sort of street bomber out of it. Instead of trying to scratchbuild a "stock" wing, thinking of using a lower, "normal" wing as seen on other '70-'71 Mopars, or maybe even just a ducktail spoiler. Lowered, raked, big rubber, deep black open wheels for a NASCAR vibe, finished in overall dark gray primer. Sort of a Cannonball outlaw, if you catch my drift. But I'm soliciting and entertaining other possibilities as well, so lay 'em on me. Bueller? Anyone?
  18. All paint now on. 3-4 airbrushed coats of Testor little bottle Dark Blue, topped with 10 coats (rattlecan) of Krylon Gloss Clear. Put on so many coats of the Krylon because in my experience the stuff is REALLY thin and easily polished through. Unfortunately, I believe this particular can must have been their Satin or Matte mislabeled--not a hint of gloss, and in fact I WISH their Clear Matte turned out this flat. Looks like lots of wet-sanding and polishing to do. Ah shucks oh well, if models were easy, anybody could build them.
  19. Fabulous! GOTTER DONE! Woohoo! Model on!
  20. CBS? Are they still on the air? I haven't watched them since The Unit went off and Letterman stopped being funny.
  21. I believe so. I've never actually seen the show, but am given to believe that's the case.
  22. I've had nothing but good thoughts since Ace first mentioned his new blaster!
  23. Very nice! I'm gonna bookmark this for when I get around to doing my own. You going to use/modify the '66 interior, too? I had that thought, have no idea whether it would work.
  24. I painted a Charger 500 many years ago in MCW Hemi Orange. I didn't even realize it was "metallic" until someone pointed it out to me. Couple years ago I had to do some touchup on it. I used the Testor/MM Hemi Orange, decanted and applied by brush. You have to know where to look for it to spot the touchup spots, that's how close they are.
