  1. SWEET! Last year I restored the one I built in 1967. I also have an original glue bomb from eBay, and an unbuilt "Custom Vette" reissue, and I'm hoping between the two I can get one GOOD original Mako Shark with enough parts left over to build some kind of "custom" clone. Good luck with your project!
  2. I don't often use the word "awesome," but this thing is! It'll guess any real person* or fictional character you can dream up--and often just when you think it's gone off track and is getting colder, not wamer. HOURS of fun! https://en.akinator.com/ *Well, they have to be at least somewhat famous, not just a member of your family or a guy you work with or something.
  3. Just did a quick ref-check. It looks like with a little research and some parts-bashing, you could build either Toy IX or X from this kit. And if you want one different from everybody else's, IX ran at least once with all-red sides (sorta like Toy I), and X ran at least once without the red trim (all white). Toy XI (the '74) introduced the all-tube chassis. An ACCURATE model of that one would be a lot of work, but I've seen guys here who could pull it off. (Not me!)
  4. Oh just hella cool! You KNOW how I love bringing them back from the dead. Extra credit awarded for losing the 7th and 8th header pipes on the '32 flathead.
  5. "I have squandered my resistance for a pocketful of mumbles, such are promises. All lies and jests! Still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest." --The Modelboxer
  6. In Adspeak, New on the box means a new box.
  7. Scott, those were THE BEST memes of the whole thread! I HOPE no one gets offended--they're all hilarious! Well done old friend!
  8. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
  9. And in every 1967 Chevy brochure, the steel portions of the Rallys are shown painted black, not silver. I've only ever seen one set of real ones painted black, but it's possible. The '67 Rally center caps on black wheels looks a lot like hubcaps on black steel wheels, if you don't realize what you're looking at.
  10. Far Side and Calvin & Hobbs are sorely missed.
  11. Many years ago I realized he was the only thing worth reading every day in the newspaper I had subscribed to for decades. I cancelled the subscription and now check him out online every day.
  12. According to this, you're right! Good call!
  13. '67 wheel covers might be hard to find, but Rally Wheels would be correct for this car and correct '67 Rally Wheels can be found in common Revell '67 Chevelles and Corvettes, so that's not a deal-breaking problem.
  14. There ya go. The AMT kit, the Tamiya Navy Blue, and those decals will combine very nicely to build J4F/485.
  15. Faust, I looked at your linked page, but can't find pictures of the built "under glass" model. What am I missing?
  16. Hey, I had an original idea (I don't think it's been mentioned before in this thread, anyway). Wouldn't it be fairly easy to tool up a '57 Nomad from AMT's "new" '57 Chevy? I'll take two, please!
  17. Rut-roh. You can't build a 1945 F4U-1D from that kit. It's a much earlier airplane. This would be the model airplane equivalent of painting an AMT '66 Mustang hardtop dark green, putting mags on it, and calling it the Bullitt Mustang. Also, it looks like those decals are 1/72 scale, and thus about 2/3 the size they need to be for your 1/48 model. Maybe I can walk you through this. If you want to use that Tamiya Navy Blue, I might be able to come up with a suitable set of decals for your AMT Birdcage. And if you want to build that Bunker Hill F4U-1D Corsair and use your decals, I might have a spare 1/72 Corsair of a more suitable model I can send you. I THINK I bought one at Hobby Lobby a couple years ago just because it was clearance-price cheap. Lemme see if I can find it. Your one can of Tamiy blue should be sufficient to paint them both.
  18. Have never tried that. Is it still black+white=gray? And how does it sand after it's cured?
  19. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! The first time I wore my mask into my local post office, I said, "I'm old enough to remember when walking into a US Post Office wearing a mask would get you shot on the spot."
  20. HAHAHAHAHAHA! Winner! Actually, "Pro-built" on eBay means exactly the same thing that the word "Only" means before any price, anywhere: Absolutely nothing.
  21. Which AMT Corsair? Their own "Birdcage" from the '70s, or the Otaki/ARII F4U-1A they reboxed and sold in the early '90s? Overall "Navy blue" isn't a correct factory or combat scheme for either one of them, BUT "war-weary" examples of both were rebuilt and so painted for Stateside training from late 1944 or so, so it IS possible to do an accurate model painted that way.
  22. I LOVE coming across an old model built with Duco. Comes right apart!
