  1. Bought this built AMT '65 Mustang, but it's sitting on what appears to be a chassis out of some sort of MPC Mustang. It matches instruction drawings on their '68 and '69 pretty well. It is NOT painted--it's molded in this beige/yellow color. The question is, what MPC early Mustang kit was molded in this color? I know their '66 Corvettes were molded in gray--were their '66 Mustangs this yellow color? If not, which kit was? If it helps, the chassis is carrying a pair of Cragar-ish wheels also molded in the same color.
  2. Gramps, I saw that Z at Wally's last week but didn't buy it. Yesterday I talked myself into it but it wasn't there anymore. Just as well--I spent the money on a lot of cool stuff at the local toy show today. I saw the VW too. It looked okay to me, I just wasn't that interested in it.
  3. Very nice! Maybe your best paint job yet.
  4. Very clean build, very nice! Well done and model on!
  5. Geno, what did you do for the Super Sport scripts on the quarters? They're so faint on mine I don't think they'll stand up to a single coat of paint. Are your photoetch, or decals, or something?
  6. Very cool! I've just started work on a long-stalled one (from the '70s) for the BOYD completion build. Good to know that the thing actually CAN be built!
  7. That's sad to hear. "The other magazine" IMHO had a great deal to do with the resurgence of our hobby back in the '80s, when it was all but dead.
  8. I believe it was also eventually revealed that C&D was given a ringer to test--with a hot-tuned 421 in it instead of the standard factory-spec 389.
  9. I think they're cleverly telling us they didn't do a thing to the ancient Lindberg molds.
  10. Exactly what I was gonna say. Well done and model on!
  11. Okay, here's my BOYD Round 3 project, a Monogram '66 Chevelle. The kit is from the '70s, very possibly an original first-issue. I didn't like the way the flip front end fit when I bought it, so it went back in the box for a decade or so. Every so often I'd pull it out and have another go at making that front end fit, and then give up and put it away again. Did this at least six or eight times over the years, most recently about a decade ago. I never did like the goofy tube front chassis of the car, and at one point glued on the front part of an AMT '69 Chevelle chassis. Then I decided that wasn't going to work for me, and cut it off again and tried repositioning the tube chassis by drilling its mounting holes in the firewall a little higher. I don't like that much either, and will be grafting on the front chassis from a Monogram '70 Chevelle this time around and see how that works. Last time I played with the thing, I managed by careful filing and sanding to get an acceptable fit of the front end on the right side. But when I got it where I wanted it on the left (driver) side, there was an unacceptable gap at the lower edge. I'll be taking care of that this time around. I don't plan for the front end to tilt, but it will be lift-off. I'll also be trying to straighten out the “caved in” look of the forward edge of the roof by careful heating and bending. I THINK I can fix this—we'll see what happens.
  12. Not my thing at all, but wow, what a great survivor, and you did a fabulous "rescue" job on it! Well done and model on!

    Junk.

I LIKE this little car! What is it? Where can I get a kit of it? It is BEGGING for a small block Chevy, or at least a V6 Buick engine!
  14. It took me a couple readings, but I eventually interpreted what you meant--especially since I've never heard of a Welly Ferrari GTO.
  15. Auxier's previous car, the all royal blue Bowani II '65-'66 Mustang, was MUCH prettier. I saw it in person and it was just gorgeous. Ran like a scalded ape, too.
  16. Now that right there is RED! Drive on!
  17. There ya go. That's the kind of stalled project we're looking for here!
  18. You just started it in January? Of this year? That doesn't really qualify as a "stalled project." We're looking for things you started more than a year ago--the older, the better--and then got stalled on for months. Got anything like that laying around that needs to be finished?
  19. That's pretty arty and cool! Any way you could safely make it permanent?
  20. Okay, SMcM, I've added you to the list! You know what to do!
  21. Looks suspiciously like the old Lindberg Flying Saucer kit from the '50s. So it COULD be real.
  22. I'm very confident that it WILL appear, as I spent a bunch of money on resin ones not long ago. I could prolly speed up the process by actually building one or more of them--you know how THAT goes.
  23. Have to agree! Drive on!
