  1. Couple snappers I rescued from the local toy show in the last few months. Revell '34 Ford: Disassembled, cleaned in soap and water, removed and realigned the headlight lenses, black-washed the grille, sanded the tire treads, painted the wheels Testor Steel, painted chrome front suspension semigloss black to kill the toylike look, resassembled, done! Total time probably under two hours. AMT Dodge Copperhead: Disassembled, cleaned in soap and water, sanded tire treads, removed all molding lines from body, polished body with Trim nail sticks, some detail painting of lights and so forth, reassembled, done! Total time 4-6 hours, most of that in body prep and polishing.
  2. Survey says....F6F-5! https://www.airfix.com/uk-en/grumman-f6-f5-hellcat.html
  3. I wonder if that whiner knows that Don and Carol worked very hard for TWO YEARS AFTER their announced retirement date just to fill all their orders for their customers?
  4. I've had one for almost 50 years. Only use it occasionally and sparingly. I tend to save up vac jobs and then run several of them at once. Two jobs ago, I worked at a place that generated a LOT of scrap .020-.030 virgin white styrene. I spent a bit of my spare time there cutting the scrap into handy 3"x3.5" rectangles. Probably still have a lifetime supply of them.
  5. Don't think it's been mentioned yet, but this is the cover car of the latest issue of the "other" magazine, with a build article. Some good how-to on those wheels, too.
  6. +1 on all that. I don't know which was more disgusting--writing and sending that letter, or publishing it without comment. If it were to be published at all, the writer should have gotten a very public and severe spanking. At least the letters to the ed in the next issue should be interesting reading, unlike most months. (Though I must say that the most boring letters to the ed I've ever read have been in FineScale Modeler mag--month after month, year after year they are a waste of valuable ink and paper.)
  7. In my experience (and please don't ask me how I know), it's quite a bit UNDER boiling. I'd be VERY careful going over 180* or 190*.
  8. Our friend Tim Boyd has a nice build article on the Revell Snapper in the new issue of the "other" magazine. I have that very issue in the stash, and finished up a current issue (blue) one not too long ago.
  9. Consensus from the Snakepit as well.
  10. Very nice! I have one of these in the stash, rising slowly to the top of the Build It pile. Thanks for the inspiration!
  11. What he said. It's very desirable and very restorable. Great find!
  12. Thanks for another look at that. I always liked that build and it put you on my personal radar.
  13. Yet another vote for Paasche H, which will do anything you need to do in Model Car World except super-trick '60s or lowriders type paint jobs (and some very advanced weathering). I've owned a Paasche H for a few months now but have never used it--but I have used its marketplace/functional twin, the Badger 350, for over 30 years of model car work with complete satisfaction.
  14. The Lovely Mrs. Snake really loves watching old movies on cable. Every now and then I walk into the room and she's got something on where Betty White or Bette Davis or Lucille Ball looks pretty darn hot. I swear I'm not making this up. (These movies were probably--almost certainly--made before I was born.)
  15. You forgot the goofy roof on the Supernatural '67 Impala.
  16. MUCH better, thanks! I appreciate it!
  17. Impossible? I've got photos of a guy who put FOUR Allisons in a '37 Fiat!
  18. Decided to try to answer the challenge. Spent about 3 hours today filling that window frame gap. Didn't come up with a perfect solution, but a workable one. Hope to get it finished and pics up this weekend.
  19. I'd have no problem with that at all. Just another day for a model airplane builder.
  20. Sweet, especially the Vega and Firebird! That Maybach looks like it wants to be in a Mercedes or Porsche!
  21. Now I see them! Some pretty competent work there.
  22. Yesterday I glued the missing chunk of windshield frame in place, and Fauxberglassed the reinforcement. Better yet, I think I've managed to round up all the stray parts for it, so I'll be trying to Drive On with it. Paint will be Model Master Italian Red lacquer, just since I have a fairly new can of it on hand I won't be using for anything else. (I bought it because I needed it for touchup on a resto project.)
  23. I can think of one that was much, MUCH better than the original: Ocean's Eleven. The original was one of the worst movies I've ever seen, maybe even THE worst.. The remake was pretty entertaining. The remake of The Getaway wasn't horrible. It wasn't nearly as good as the original, but it was surprisingly Not Awful. I've seen it three times and would watch it again. (Have seen the original a dozen times or more and WILL watch it again.) I never saw the original True Grit (okay, I'm a bad person), but I did see the remake and liked it a lot. Thought it was a pretty good movie.
  24. Hmmmmm, Type C? Are there types A, B, etc.? The Caddy does nothing for me, but it might be nice to have the '66 Bonneville back. We don't really need the Buick or the T-Bird, but I'd buy the Impala just cause I never got one, even though we now have Revell kits that are no doubt much better.
  25. Didn't even have to hit the play button on the video. The front end looks whack. I'm not a fan of video reviews. Just don't have time. Got any plain old static pictures of the thing?
