  1. Interesting. I always think of the red primer as more of a Ford thing, but I guess these are tendencies or likelihoods rather than absolutes.
  2. Or, as we say in Model Airplane World, the Mark I Eyeball. As in, "If it looks right to my Mark I Eyeball, it IS right."
  3. I have a '74 (IIRC) Firebird or Trans Am from that series, but I can't recall at the moment whether it's the actual American Violence boxing or not. Someday I'm gonna build the thing and paint it Buccaneer Red.
  4. Interesting. I've never noticed the "short greenhouse" problem on the Revell snapper, but I'll take another look at it. I have a pretty good eye for these things (I spot a LOT of problems others miss) and I hadn't seen anything that bothered me, but as I said I'll take another look. Thanks for the headsup!
  5. It usually does, but I've done a few where it looks DARN good. The trick is deciding if you can make it look good before spending a buttload of time polishing the plastic. I actually enjoy polishing plastic in the rare cases where it will work. It all depends on how solid/opaque the pigment in the plastic is.
  6. The original AMT '67-'69 Cougars had canted, "cross ram" Webers with curved ram tubes on a 390 (is that an FE engine? I'm not much of a Ford guy, sorry). That setup (or original engine) doesn't seem to have survived into any of the reissues of the '69, except possibly the Countdown issue, which I'm not familiar with. I could swear I've seen something like that on another kit Ford engine, too, but can't place what it is.
  7. That's my impression, too. For model use, I'd go with whatever medium primer gray you have on hand. And remember, body color overspray on the primer, but NOT on the frame.
  8. Wow. In some of those pics, it has white side pipes. (And Minilites.)
  9. So that's not the same box as the last couple reissues. I take it that box is "retro-stalgia styled" and not a copy of the original 1965 issue box?
  10. What cost $3 in 1978 would cost $11.21 in 2016. Also, if you were to buy exactly the same products in 2016 and 1978, they would cost you $3 and $0.76 respectively.
  11. And you can also build a second one out of the box it comes in.
  12. I'm pretty sure I have a can of Krylon almost exactly that color, which I use for tan interiors.
  13. Not my thing at all, but I greatly admire and respect someone with a vision and the patience and skill to bring it to reality. Well done and drive on!
  14. Okay, went through the books. Only one pic of the #48 car, and it has a way cut down windshield. Can't tell what the rear wheels are but the fronts are the weird disks seen on Ace's pic above. Black side pipes. Speaking of side pipes, I was surprised to see that many of them (on other Corvettes of the general era) were flat white or a flat silver color. But the predominate color was black.
  15. I'd rather see the Mexicali Mudlark, but it's just not possible.
  16. Very nice!
  17. I have several books with quite a few pics of RR Vettes in them, so I'll take a look for this car tonight. But I can tell you without even looking, the predominant side pipe color in this era was black. The American wheels wouldn't have been chrome, the spokes would have been flat steel gray or black.
  18. The car in the mag I used for reference had them.
  19. Thank you for the kind words of encouragement.
  20. But that's a '66. (At least here in the USA it is.)
  21. Good to know they're still making it, at least. My Hobby Lobby stopped carrying that color.
  22. I use the cutoff disks on mine to cut hardened music wire to length for old-school model axles. Much faster than a hacksaw. I also use it to grind out the rear fuselage of tricycle-gear model airplanes, so I can get by with less landing-gear-straining lead weight in the nose (best case, none at all), but I can't recall EVER using it for any kind of plastic model car bodywork. (I did use it to grind out the inside of the roof of a diecast '68 Chevelle, but that's a long story.)
  23. Sorry, I simply cannot resist.
  24. Fabulous restoration, and I love the color!
