William Shatner to take off into space at 1000
Snake45 replied to SfanGoch's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
There are probably those who would say that what we expend on OUR hobby is a waste of time and money and so forth. I learned a long time ago not to base my happiness on the fact that other kids could have more expensive toys. I've learned to make the most of what I have to work with, and find joy in it. Model on, everyone! -
PREACH IT, Brother Daddy! Also, I can't stand these old-school units being referred to as "hats." You wanna call that ugly modern junk on top of blowers "hats," fine, but NOBODY called injectors and scoops that back in the day.

Honduras Maroon is THE color for '62 Vettes! I did one in the Model Master Honduras Maroon a few years ago, if you'd like a "preview of coming attractions" of what yours will look like when finished.

Still watching TA #2. Just saw something I've never seen before, anywhere: Boddie won a race! 'Course, he only won because Disco Dean redlighted against him (looks like DD would have beaten him handily). And he broke his transmission doing so. So he hunted down another transmission and got it installed in time, and then started feeling good about everything including his chances of beating Ryan Martin, if you can believe it. (Please!) And THAT went about like any sane person would have expected. That Swanstrom kid (and his dad) have now talked their way onto my Dislike List. -
How to recover or create new badge script?

Check aftermarket decal sheets. Sometimes they have them. Otherwise, only thing you can do is find an intact body and foil-copy them from that. -

SB, I finally got to shoot the CZ this morning. It shot pretty much to point of aim, and it made the "rathole" I've come to expect from this kind of gun. The super-light trigger took some getting used to, but I'll admit it's very easy to shoot. And it DOES shoot DA if you want to, but the DA trigger pull is awful. Got three full 17-round mags out of one cartridge, plus 9 more shots, for the 60 that I've also become used to. Function was perfect, except the slide didn't lock back after the last shot in the mag any of the 4 times, so count your shots as you go. Almost forgot to mention: It actually give me a minor but authentic case of "hammer bite." I'll be taking a file or stone to those sharp edges on the hammer real soon. -
Not a problem. More than one review of a given movie is entirely welcome!

Am now watching Team Attack episode 2. Bird crossed the centerline in that Probe again, but at least didn't crash this time. I'm still sorting out all the new faces/cars. By the "orange Corvette" did you mean that loudmouth who kept talking about cutting off 405 heads and hanging them on his wall as trophies? I've taken an instant dislike to that guy, and will now be rooting for him to lose. Very unusual to see Murder Nova in a very high gloss black. Can it still be called "Murder" if it's not flat black? -
Fabulous! I'll be buying at least two of these, maybe more!

That was at least the third time I've seen Jerry Bird crash, always while crossing the other lane. He needs to get out of the game, or get rid of that POS Probe, before he kills somebody. -
Might be old but still looks good, and congrats on painting the engine blue!

I almost never (and never have) paint parts on the sprue for exactly the reason you describe, also, many/most parts have parting lines and flash that has to be removed before painting. When a part can be painted on the sprue where sprue removal and parting lines/flash aren't a consideration, I'll sometimes do it, but these are very rare.

I could tell just by looking at it that I'd never get my hand around a Desert Eagle. I'd have bought an Auto Mag back in the '70s, but I got to handle one and my hand didn't come close to fitting that one, either. Even the S&W 645 is too big for me. I can just barely handle Smith N frames and the Colt Python. I'm fine with 1911s, Browning P35s, Walther P38s, Smith K frames, Colt D frames, and so forth. "A man's got to know his limitations." --H. '65 Olds 442 - Which is better, R&R Resins or MCW?

There are photos on the MCW website. -
Very cool, no argument, but it's not a model.

Didn't come out bad at all. What's the paint?
-
I know exactly what you mean! Or picked up with the fingers and thumb curled carefully under the chassis, NEVER by the body, or you'll create--momentarily--a 3D "exploded drawing." One thing I do very differently now is, I use very, very little Testor Chrome Silver paint--on most models, none at all. Today I'm all about Silver Sharpie, or Molotow, or Deco Color Premium Silver Leaf, or foil, depending on which will work best or easiest in each particular application.

Beautiful work! Drive on!

Haven't used tube glue since the mid-'70s. Now I use liquids, CAs, white glues, and sometimes epoxy. One thing I do the same is, I never glue anything together that doesn't have to be, and haven't since I started building model cars in 1966.. I hold the glass in with masking tape (if it has runners between the windshield and backlight), and the body, interior, and chassis are just "set together." (I think I've only had to glue one or two chassis in in my life.) This has facilitated disassembly, cleaning/repair/updating over the years, and I've been SO glad on many occasions that I did things this way.

I'm not and have never been a fan of Jerry Bird. Last night's race was a "preliminary event." No points were awarded toward the NPK championship, but all first-round winners automatically qualified for the official first race (shown tonight) in Jupiter, Florida. I think the rest of the winning purses will be 40K. We'll know tonight.
