  1. Competition Orange seems to be THE color for these, doesn't it? I've seen about three or four of them on the net now, and am planning to do my own that color if I ever get it that far. Nice work, BTW.
  2. Prolly more trying to screw the bottom line up tighter. They now have thousands fewer retail outlets than they did 20, 30, or 40 years ago, with many LHS closing and most of the "five and dime" and discount houses getting out of the model bidness.
  3. AFAIK, they're still making enamel. On one of my model airplane boards, guys have been complaining about recent batches of some colors. I've noticed a difference in viscosity in the last few years. Used to be the stuff was all pretty much the same. Now you can open one bottle and it's like pouring syrup, another bottle of the same color could almost be airbrushed as-is, it's so thin.
  4. Well, I see it. As I said, I've got four different '67-'68 Camaro bodies. All four have shape problems, in different areas. All four look like early Camaros, more or less. All four will require work before they get to sit on my shelf.
  5. I have an unfinished MPC '69 Firebird I started in 1969. No Trans Am parts because the Trans Am didn't exist yet.
  6. Is that Avril Whatever's Skater Boy, or something of that nature?
  7. Yeah, but I don't think there's enough general interest in Corvair that that's gonna happen. And if it did, they'd find some way to screw it up. I'm just happy that the old kit is still available and in reasonably good shape.
  8. I've found that Model Master Rust enamel does a convincing impression of red oxide primer. Have used it on that for several things. It's real easy to work with, too--a real nice paint.
  9. I noticed the Me 163 emblem in your avatar. Too bad the Germans didn't use simpler paint jobs. I'd build more models of their stuff if they had. I don't have the skills and/or patience to do that mottle stuff.
  10. I have a feeling that alcohol and/or wagering were involved in this escapade.
  11. Oh sorry, I thought this thread was going to be about Pia Zadora.
  12. There it is. The kit grille is a deal-breaker for me. I'd rather part that kit out than build it OOB with that grille on it. Oh, it's not only too flat, it's symmetrical top to bottom, too. Which the real one most definitely is NOT. The real grille shape has a definite top and bottom to it. And fixing the grille will require modding the body in some way, one way or the other. It's not that this problem CAN'T be fixed, it's just difficult to understand why in 2014, we should HAVE to. We can put a man on the moon, why can't we...oh, wait, we can't do THAT anymore, either.
  13. Nicely done! Oh, and BTW, the next line is: "Don't knock on my door if you don't know my Rottweiler's name."
  14. First off, DON'T suggest I start with a "new" Revell '62. I'm trying use up an old AMT '62 and an old MPC '60 and want to kitbash them into a nice shelf-sitter '61. I gather that the idea will be to get the rear end of the AMT '62 body onto the MPC '60 body. Anyone done this--any ideas or suggestions about the best place to make the cut(s)? How does everything mate up?
  15. I just did some minor googling and couldn't find ANY 1/24 resin Challenger hoods. It MIGHT be possible to work over a 1/25 hood to fit by adding material to both sides and the rear edge. Not a perfect solution but sometimes you have to work with what you can get.
  16. Uh, no. And I don't see why you'd want to. I don't think I've ever seen gray trim on a car. But if you really want gray, why not just paint it? The hobby shop paint racks are full of gray paints, any shade you can imagine, in the military colors lines. And all the Model Master Grays brush well and are easy to work with. I'd suggest FS 36118 Gunship Gray. I often use it for the spokes on mag wheels and it's lovely stuff to work with. If you want a metallic gray, Testor has a metallic Steel in the line. It's also very easy to work with. It's lighter/silverer than my beloved old Pactra Steel (it's not too much darker than their Aluminum), but you should be able to darken it with a little flat black or dark gray--I've been meaning to mix up a bottle of such myself.
  17. Hey Jafty, I posted you a challenge on the last page (137).
  18. Aside from the obvious turbo parts, what would you like to see? I always thought the AMT Corvair, with the Fitch Sprint and Yenko top pieces, and all the customizing goodies, was a pretty complete and versatile kit.
  19. Good to know. I'll make a mental note to put AS in my "goodguys" file.
  20. I can show you guns in any shade of black you want, from a deep, liquid gloss, to a nice satin eggshell, to a dead flat black.
  21. Very nice! I've been wanting to turn that funny body into a stocker. Good to know that it works so well. Looks like you cut the hood out and did a nice job of it, too. What did you use to make the cuts?
  22. One hundred pounds of unfriendly persuasion Sleepin' on the Florida porch... And if you come callin' he'll be maulin' with intent to maim.... (Jaftygas ought to get this one...the song's a tribute to his avatar.)
