Hey, they're not perfect, but they're way easier than either silver paint or foil, and VERY cost-effective. The only trick is to make sure you always have at least two new 2-packs on hand at all time, because you never know when one is going to suddenly go west on you. You can shake one like a thermometer and get a little more use out of it, but when it's time to start shaking, it's time to start thinking about popping a new one. I've been known to say that if they ever stop making Silver Sharpies, I'll have to give up car modeling and go back to airplanes. (And maybe tanks.)

Nobody knew what was going on until the epilog. I guess Quentin Tarantino proved that a movie doesn't have to make any sense at all to be considered "good." To this day no one knows what was in that stupid Pulp Fiction briefcase.

That's not far off my own review of the movie.

Very sharp, very clean build of a seldom-seen subject! Well done and model on!

67 Knafel Pontiac's Acadian

Yes. And before that, hot-rodders were already dropping BBCs in them, and commenting that the Rat fit like the car was designed for it...which, of course, it obviously was from the beginning. -

Never heard of that! Was that the plan at one time? I've never heard of any L79 '67 Camaros built, even rumors or one-offs or special orders. -

It didn't have to come from the factory with an L79 to be legally raced with one. The combination just had to be available from the factory. Grumpy's Toy II, the car Jenkins ran after the red and white Nova was totaled in a towing accident, wasn't born with an L79. Grump put one in the replacement car, possibly the same engine from the original Toy. -

Then it's definitely not NHRA SS or MP. Could be AHRA something, or it might have just been running on one of the several circuits still going in 1967 and '68 with the older AWB-type funny cars that were no longer competitive against the new generation of tube-frame "floppers." If that were the case, you'd think engine guts of some sort would be coming through the hood, though. -
I haven't lost anything in Space. But I'm not against anyone who wants to go getting off the planet. More goodies for the rest of us.

Foghorn said he found another pic of the car where it was SS/D. Who knows what it's running in this pic? I agree, the Mopar hood scoop would put it into NHRA Modified Production. But don't forget AHRA Super Stock, I don't know what their rules might have been. Also not sure what's going on with the headlights, but if it doesn't have any, that would kick it up to Altered class--even Gassers were supposed to have headlights. -

Excellent analysis/deduction, Foghorn! Absent evidence to the contrary, I'd say you nailed it. Well done! -
Very clean, very sharp build! Silver Sharpies forever, BOO-YA! Well done and model on!

Kurt, that bike is just BADASS! Reminds me I have an early '70s 5-speed Sting Ray that needs a new seat, rear tire, and some cleanup to look great. Bought it at a yard sale for $35 back in the '80s and I've seen similar stuff going for 10X that on eBay lately.

The Ugliest Corvette Ever?
Snake45 replied to stavanzer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I can see where some might find this retro-deco styling attractive, but I much prefer the original Corvette, whatever year is hiding under there. I'll also admit that this isn't anywhere NEAR the "ugliest" Corvette in this thread. -
Lacquer Thinner versus MEK
Snake45 replied to Foghorn Leghorn's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Same here. Sometimes you want/need an instant "weld" bond; most times you don't really. Also, the MC will work on some kinds of plastic that MEK won't. -
Very nice, very sharp, great idea! Well done and model on!

Saw The Last Jedi. Some great CGI SFX, but I've already pretty much forgotten the plot. What I'll take from this movie is how much Adam Driver reminded me of Gold Rush's Parker Schnabel, and how much Carrie Fisher reminded me of someone I really, really can't stand. Last night saw Solo, the Han Solo origin story movie. Pretty good, and answered a lot of questions. I kept expecting Greedo to show up at some point, but he never did. The high point of the movie is probably the great train robbery sequence, which actually felt lifted from several other movies but was still pretty cool.

After Warren Zevon had been handed his death sentence, he made his last (I think) public appearance on Letterman. Dave asked him, "What have you learned--what do you know that the rest of us need to know?" And Zevon replied, "Just...enjoy every sandwich." The saying became famous (at least among Zevon fans), and would have been a great title for a Warren Zevon song, but of course he never got to write it. But it did become the title of the posthumous tribute album put out by a bunch of his friends, and I can tell you that is a GREAT album.

I forget what the Trump kit prices were, or what "regular" kits were going for at the time, but I thought they were ridiculously high. I eventually lucked into a pretty decent deal on the Nova convertible ($16, IIRC) and grabbed it. I have zero interest in ragtops but figgered I could bash it up with a Rat Packer and come up with a stock(-ish) hardtop of some kind. Later, I bought a MCW 2DS body for it--need to dig all that out and actually build it one of these days.
-
But I'll bet cash money we STILL will never see a '64-'67 Buick Skylark GS kit from Trumpeter (or anyone else in China)!
-
And there it is. But I note that there are quite a few of us who are now lined up with wads of cash to buy piles of the upcoming 1G Novas from Moebius, even with flaws noted in the test shots, and even at premium Moebius prices (and probably no 40% off HL discounts).

Lacquer Thinner versus MEK
Snake45 replied to Foghorn Leghorn's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I said no such thing, but I could have, because it's true. Probably the two most common solvents in lac thinner are toluene and xylene. -

Testor Liquid Cement basically IS MEK with a few additives. I'm not sure what the additives do but MEK will work fine as a cement. LT might or might not work. I'd only bother trying if I had absolutely nothing else to use. I do use a lot of the stuff for airbrush thinner for Testor enamels, though, and airbrush cleaner. -
It's a complete mystery to me. You'd think that they'd recognize that there's a ready market for their stuff, even at the $40+ price point.
