  1. And here it is. Too bad the paint's not quite good enough to clean/polish it up as a nice "survivor." Not sure what color I'll paint it. Maybe if it comes out of Lake Purple really clean, I'll just polish up the white plastic. We'll see what happens. Also picked up this semi-well built '69 Yenko; at least it's complete. It MIGHT be an easy, fun Snake-Fu rescue. I'll break it down and see if a light polish gets the paint to an acceptable level of shine. If not, It'll just make a great parts car. And then this thing followed me home too for some reason. It's complete, anyway. I'll have to see what it looks like after I scrape all the decals off of it. If the paint's savable, I'll make a '60s drag car out of it, or perhaps a '70s street racer. Too bad the builder used the '66 Shelby side scoops but not the roof windows. Oh well, we'll see what happens.
  2. You've sold me! How do I go about seeing these movies?
  3. I suspect that this is the same type of foil that I bought in the "candy wrap" section at Michael's. When I got that home I discovered it was pretty much identical to the thin cheap generic kitchen foil I'd been using. For an adhesive, try Micro Metal Foil Adhesive, best stuff I've found for this.
  4. I built this '69 Road Runner box stock (with the possible exception of rear wheels/tires, I don't remember) back in 1969. It's a bit dirty/dusty today and looks like a real "barn find," but it's one of my favorite models from "back in the day." Might be about time to restore it to all its former glory.
  5. Yes, that's it. The color's not a "red red" but a pretty "brick red" metallic, sort of in the same neighborhood as Model Master Kiln Red, if you remember that. If the mood ever strikes me to scratchbuild a mirror, I'll paint it with the Kiln Red, which I just happen to have some of on hand.
  6. Stopped at the last Rite Aid in my whole area on the way home from the local toy show. The Wellys are now $12 instead of the usual $10. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted. Got the only one they had I hadn't seen before, the Mercedes AMG gullwing in a beautiful metallic brick red. While I was paying I noticed that the driver's side mirror is missing. Went back to the rack to see if it might be there, but of course no joy. Oh well, I can scratchbuild something if it bothers me enough. Still a hella cool looking car.
  7. Local toy show. Scored an original annual screwbottom AMT '62 T-Bird sport roadster for $20. It's cleanly built, not quite as cleanly painted, and complete and looks like a great rebuild candidate. Even came with the original box! Also got an MPC "Custom Corvette," the sad reissued end of the original Mako Shark molds, complete and unstarted (but no instructions, no problem) for $20. These are getting hard to find when you want one. I have in mind to build it as about a 1969-72 Corvette if Chevy had decided to go that way with the Shark design. Should be an interesting and fun build.
  8. Very nice, thanks for posting it!
  9. You be rollin'! Drive on!
  10. You beat me to it.
  11. Cool collection! Model on!
  12. Their competitor sells the same thing for the same price and has a service where they'll test it before shipment for $10. I already told the vendor that if they won't sent me a KNOWN GOOD replacement, I'll just take a full refund and order from the other other guys, who actually already owe me a $10 credit anyway. I'll get this all worked out one way or the other, I'm not in a big hurry. It's just a PITA to deal with.
  13. Update: The replacement part didn't work either. Or perhaps (more probably) the whole main unit is defective in some way. Notified their Customer Service that we'll be talking Monday about them issuing me a Fed Ex pickup to return the whole mess for replacement (with a TESTED, known-good unit) or a complete refund. I'm not expecting any problem, they've been good people to work with so far. But I guess we'll see....
  14. It's from an old Dustin Hoffman thriller, Marathon Man.
  15. Sweet! I'd just clean/polish that one up and lay some minor Snake-Fu on it. Congratulations!
  16. This sounds like a perfect project for this years Cannonball group build, the theme of which is "race cars in inconspicuous bodies." The AMT '65-'69 Corvair in all its various issues has already been approved as legal for the build, so you're all set if you'd like to join in!
  17. PREACH IT, Brother Dave!
  18. That sounds about right. I don't have any name brand stuff like Alcoa or Reynolds Wrap on hand but they seem about twice as thick or more as the cheap stuff I have. But like you, I'm astonished that BMF is that thick. I still have part of an ancient sheet around here somewhere. I'll have to see if I can get a measurement on it.
  19. Interesting! Puts me in mind of a customized '65 Chevelle.
  20. Very cool! I've seen these in '41 Willys, but not '33. If it were in 1/24, I'd buy one, but I have no interest at all in 1/18.
  21. Update: there seemed to be some problem getting management to sign off on the replacement part (@$45) but Customer Service finally gotter done and shipped the part to me Tuesday; it arrived today and seems to be good. Will try to test tomorrow morning and then hopefully will be posting about this thing in the "What Pleased You Today" thread.
  22. I feel ya my brother but it's the cost of doing bidness and sometimes you just gotta suck it up. Sometimes you can catch a good deal with free or low shipping on eBay. Sometimes the online hobby vendors will have sales or specials or throw in free shipping over a certain order $ amount. And then you gotta figure what a 70-mile round trip to your HL costs you in gas and your time/inconvenience, and even when you get there they might not have what you want. There's no simple solution, you just have to stay awake and do the best you can. Good luck getting the stuff you want!
  23. Thanks! I'd have thought they'd have been much thinner than my cheap kitchen foil.
  24. The diecast cars aisle of my WM was empty and lonely this morning. Three Motor Maxes and yards and yards of empty shelf on at least three levels.
