Tamiya Paint: To Strip or Not to Strip?
peteski replied to av405's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Oh, ok. That's weird. If you only burned through the roof and trunk lid, why not just repaint them? Just mask it off at the panel lines, then spray some primer and white. Paint is white and non-metallic, so it is easy to color-match. -
The Official EBay Discussion Thread

As far as USPS tracking info goes, you should be able to tell whether the package is sitting at the seller's, or lost in the postal system. When the label is created the tracking shows "label created". When the package is picked up, or seller drops it off, the tracking should show "shipment accepted". From that point on, any delay is caused by the USPS. That is under ideal condition - USPS tracking and even package routing seems to be not very reliable. -
Tamiya Paint: To Strip or Not to Strip?

I think he burned through the paint on the roof. What I'm puzzled about it that the white paint seems to have pulled away from the door line edges, and it shows black. Is the body plastic color black? When the body was primed (using white or gray primer) that should have prevented the paint from pulling away at the edges. -
What do the pros use to print decals?
peteski replied to jchrisf's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Charlie, you might find the cartridges on eBay or even Amazon. There is also http://tangopapadecals.com/inks.htm and https://www.paoon.com/decal/index-en.html (difficult to navigate, but lots of useful cartridges). They are all getting pricey though! There is also an online group for Alps printers with over 2700 members. Might be a good idea to join. https://alps.groups.io/g/ALPS . I've been in that group for over 15 years. I dont; subscribe to emails - I read the messages in the Web interface. -
Tamiya Paint: To Strip or Not to Strip?

Maybe your 91% IPA is not really 91%. Maybe it is diluted (either on purpose, or it absorbed moisture). Try 99%IPA. I get mine from a hardware store. It comes in gallon tin cans (in the paint thinners section). If they don's stock it, they should be able to special order it for you. I've seen it sold under names like "IPA99" or "Isopropanol 99". -
I know it is a long shot, but I figured maybe someone here might know of one. I have a curbside kit, and would like to add an engine to it. http://cdn2.bigcommerce.com/server2400/89ffd/products/4137/images/27768/HC_07_a__41485.1401707250.1280.1280.jpg Few years I would not have expected anybody making an aftermarket engine for this tiny, ugly-but-cute car, but with so many modelers out there (especially in the 3D printing world) are making all sorts of parts for all sorts of models.

Exactly. I should have mentioned in my earlier post that Marcos' building and painting skills are superb. The toyish appearance in not due to anything he did. It is OOB build.

AMT Dodge Van
peteski replied to Beamerman's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Nicely done! But where is the bed? Remember the saying "if the van's rockin' don't come knockin'"? -
If you didn't glue them, why not just remove them, place them over some 220 grit wet-n-dry sandpaper and sand them down. Just hold the emblem under your finger, and gently move it back and forth. I have sanded down items like these. I mentioned 220 because 150 might be too "grabby", and 330 would take a lot of sanding to get the thickness down.

Yes, Future is the name most modelers use for the household clear floor finish formerly known as "Future". That was its name for decades until some marketing people decided to rename it, and keep on renaming it every few years. Go figure . . . Even Swanny has a hard time keeping up with all the changes: http://www.swannysmodels.com/TheCompleteFuture.html

Interesting - thanks! it expires soon - need to go and watch it while you can. LOL! Size "large"? Good luck finding someone here who will fit in that one. Most of the boomers here are XL and up! I know, I am one. I have few black Pink Floyd T-shirt I bought at Walmart over the years, for less than $10 each. When I wear them, I often get compliments. Quite a few from late-teens and twenty-somethings. Good to see that generation embracing Pink Floyd (not just BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH music). Maybe there is still some hope . . .

But there is always a small print stating "do not attempt - professional drivers on a closed course" (or something similar), to protect their rear ends. It is dumb! What they are selling? Excitement, adrenaline rush, machismo. Typical marketing methods which appeal to their target audience. You won't find this type of ads for Lincoln SUVs.

Cassette? Dude, you're not that old. Vinyl LPs and 8-track tapes came before cassettes.

Thanks!

While every generation seems to lament that the world is "going to the dogs", I think things have reached pinnacle this time. Partially blame social media for this. If there was no FB, Twitter, and YouTube, none of this would likely happen. Signed: borderline boomer.

My brother’s Model A
peteski replied to Rick L's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I do like the unusual color. It does have an "industrial" (but eye-pleasing) look. -
What brand/type of clear coat? What is the clear-to-thinner ratio? Just saying "clear" does not provide acomplete picture.

Couple of days ago I watched "Classic Albums: Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon" on PBS. What a great documentary! Lots of old footage of the band and lots of interesting tidbits I didn't know about the album and about the band. I like it so much that I wanted to see if it was available on DVD. I learned that the British "Classic Albums" series is not new (started in the nineties), and evne thisepisode was several years old. I did find it on DVD and I just bought it on eBay. Highly recommended for any Pink Floyd fan. I like most of their music, even their strange excursions.

1/24 or 1/25 model of the Jensen Interceptor?
peteski replied to stevefzr's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'm wondering if it is (or the master) 3D printed. It is also strange to see the wipers included with the body. Maybe they are separate, and just placed there to show how they look? -

Like the white one seen in the background of the photo in the initial post?
