  1. Don't indulge this guy. This is Plumcrazy Preston using another identity.
  2. It was in the October 1974 issue. The article was written by the late, great P.J. O''Rourke and was illustrated and constructed by Alan Rose and Marc Arceneaux. Says so at the bottom of the first image. I have every stinkin' issue.
  3. He made a cameo appearance this past Tuesday, an hour after you posted this thread. It doesn't seem like he's interested in palavering with you.
  4. Do you mean crowdsourcing or crowdfunding? Two different things. The cost to replicate the non-standard injection molding equipment which would accept Johan molds would be prohibitively expensive. That, in itself, would put the kibosh on that idea. It's not financially viable to drop large amounts of money to build injection molding equipment which would be a one-trick pony because it would be incompatible with any other molds. That's one of the reasons other kt manufacturers wouldn't/won't touch them. Figuring out which are most popular, feasible and lucrative doesn't really matter since, in all likelihood, any that fit those parameters no longer exist. There are pitifully few complete Johan molds/toolings still in existence. Most were allegedly stolen and scrapped, for the value of the berrylium copper in them, scavenged by former employees who weren't paid when the company closed.
  5. Have you looked at the chassis of the Round2 '64 Cutlass, among others?
  6. It was mentioned in General Discussions some years back that Johan used injection molding equipment which wasn't compatible with the long standardized machinery used by the rest of the manufacturers. The Johan kits released by AMT, etc. were produced by Johan for re-boxing under the other companies' labels and didn't require the transfer of molds. Okey can't make use of the molds because the oddball injection molding equipment no longer exists. So, the only thing accomplished by buying up whatever remains of the Johan toolings is that the new owner will have a nice selection of doorstops.
  7. Nope. It's 1/25, released in 1993. It was the second 1/25 kit produced by Monogram after the 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible, which was released in 1992 and was the initial 1/25 scale model car kit in the Monogram lineup. Subsequent '50s GM kits by Revell/Revellogram were also 1/25 scale, including the '59 Eldorado Biarritz, '55 Bel Air Convertible and HT, the '59 and '60 Impala HT's, The '56 Delray and Nomad, the '57 Bel Air Convertible and Sedan and the '57 Black Widow.
  8. Oh, I knew what the deal was. I'm just the wiseguy type who just wanted to piss them off. My friends and I used to bust the chops of the various scammers along Forty Doo Wop all the time. It was great being a fearless, and stupid, yoot back then. That Coney Island Avenue location was a real bait and switch circus. You always felt like they wouldn't let you leave unless you left your wallet.
  9. Nobody is tossing around insults or engaging in bad behavior in this thread. If this were the case, you'd be unable to post a comment because the thread would have been locked.
  10. I'm entitled to my opinion even if you, or anyone else, disagrees with it. As far as I know, opinions aren't against forum rules.
  11. Bill, it seems that the consensus is that we're not intellectually mature enough to discuss anything more complex than the pros and cons of accessory items included in 60+ year old model kits without devolving into a flame war.
  12. Herein lies the rub. Thinking or assuming what choices another person has available are not within the purview of someone else, even a moderator. That pretty much describes a petty tyranny. Acting to prevent any assumed violation occurs even if there is no legitimate evidence that anything will actually happen.
  13. The blue variety is a popular beverage selection, to accompany the green bologna sangwiches served at lunch, in Dannemora.
  14. I was accused of this by one of the hall monitors in the past and I proved him wrong. You're just as wrong as he was. Very few of my posts are in this section. You'll receive your parting gift as you exit.
  15. The use of that line is strictly forbidden. It's an overused comeback favored by the individual who was obliquely referenced in the now-locked thread.
  16. I know what the rules are, Mike. I don't agree with the premise that those two subjects should be off limits in a sub-forum which is supposed to be where off-topic (non-modeling-related) subjects are discussed. That's my opinion to which I'm entitled. BTW, my reading comprehension is excellent, as is my spelling and grammar. Although, I can't speak for anyone else here. That's for readers of posts and comments to decide.
  17. As I pointed out in another thread, the title of this sub-forum is an oxymoron. This isn't an actual off-topic forum if there are any restrictions on which topics can be posted or discussed. Restrictions defeat the purpose of what an OTL should be. So, enjoy yourself posting about cats and sewing machines. That's just the way the hall monitors like it.
  18. And this is the OTL. One has nothing to do with the other. Mutual exclusivity.
  19. No, between the two of us, you're the newbie. Check your join date. Exactly the types of topics which belong in the oxymoronically titled Off-Topic Lounge because they are off-topic. But, they're not. Therefore, OTL is not OTl in fact.
