Frog/amt mercedes 300sl gullwing
SfanGoch replied to stitchdup's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's a recurring problem with Scalemates timelines. Similar, but unrelated, kits are listed together. Unless one is familiar with the production history of a particular kit, it's easy to be misled into believing that all of the versions are identical and from the same molds. Why the Tamiya 300 SL is included in the Frog/AMT timeline is perplexing, at the very least. -

The Matchbox release is the same as the AMT kit; so, it can't be a really bad copy because it was produced from the AMT molds. Ditto with the Frog/AMT version. All are 1/25, not 1/24 scale. Compare the parts from the Frog/AMT kit and the AMT Trophy Series kit -

If and when they turn up on ebay, be prepared to pay plenty. I have a saved search for this kit and I haven't seen one in almost a year. -

Has anyone ever compiled a comprehensive list of American Psychiatric Association-approved, nonprovacative, generic, one-size-fits-all positive comments to use when posting responses about WIPs or "Under Glass" specimens? -

AAR Cuda Paint Sequence Question
SfanGoch replied to Xingu's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
According to this This is an up close shot of an original 1970 car showing where the stripe over spray went between the hood and the cowl. NO WAY was this area masked off and NO WAY was the stripe painted before the body color. ‘Nuff said! Organosol: Separating Truth From Fiction -
When Meng was about to release the 1/24 F-350 in 2014, MegaHobby had it listed for something like $99999.95.

Round 2 December 2019 Product Spotlight
SfanGoch replied to martinfan5's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I asked that very question on the Round2 FB page a while back. The response was typical doublespeak floo-flah about their continued commitment to Hawk, Lindberg and other classic brands now under the Round2 umbrella. Okay. But, why was it necessary to relabel the excellent and classic Lindberg kits like the '53 Ford, '61 Impala, '66 chevelle and the '64 Mopars as AMT? Yes, that was a very thoughtful question regarding our product lines. Thanks for your interest. ? -

AAR Cuda Paint Sequence Question
SfanGoch replied to Xingu's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I also used frisket in the mid-late '70s for masking on aircraft models and I remember it being actual paper with a slightly wrinkled, crepe paper-like texture. -
AAR Cuda Paint Sequence Question
SfanGoch replied to Xingu's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
You used frisket paper, which is a different animal. Frisket paper was exactly that, a low tack masking medium sometimes made from oiled paper. Frisket film is made from clear acetate and is not absorbent, eliminating the risk of possible bleeding under or through when spraying over it. -

I can't think of any reason why you couldn't. -
AAR Cuda Paint Sequence Question
SfanGoch replied to Xingu's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Use frisket film to mask off the areas. It doesn't leave residue and is, to use a technical term, sweller than tape. Zero bleed-through. Grafix Frisket Film -
