  1. Cool that you posted this. It's basically how I've been doing woodgrain since the early '80s but I just use Testors in the little bottles. ?
  2. Actually, I was planning just a quick build on this one. Not even gonna do plug wires on the engine as it mostly won't be seen, might even glue the hood closed too. ?
  3. The second pic isn't a Fisher top, it's an aftermarket top. It's a C&C top. [Cars & Concepts Co.] I understand those are quite rare. I've never seen one in person.
  4. Yes, the Hurst have a wide panel. There '77. Possibly '76, I'm not sure. Fisher [GM] narrow panel. '78 and up. IIRC, there may have been some overlap when a year got both, not sure about that, maybe '78?
  5. I'm pretty sure that's a Monogram cab too. Besides being different scales the MPC kit has a recessed line around the side markers while it's raised on the Monogram. Maybe you can see what I mean with this pic,,
  6. No, I think he's kinda right. Not Revell but Monogram but IIRC, it may also have been boxed as Revell. The Fall gut truck and the Deserter reissue were later '81 up trucks, that one's definitely an 80 and older. the front fenders are a dead giveaway. The Deserter has an '83/'84 grille. Probably just one someone had already built or had on hand to use as a fill-in because they didn't have a copy of the actual kit at the time. Used to happen all the time. Most famously when AMT used a Modelhaus resin kit as box art on the first issue of their '62 Chevy Bel Air.
  7. I agree. Now, why would I read this thread if I have no interest in the kit? Well, even though I won't be buying one I'd like to see what others think of it and maybe see pics of a new kit I haven't seen before. I believe it's good to keep up on new kits, no matter if they are heavy trucks or hot rods ,, or even the dreaded '57 Chevy [ Yes, I did read the thread about needing a new '57 Chevy ? gasp!!]. Will I buy one? Probably not. Am I happy that those who want to will be able to?, yes, of cores, why wouldn't I be? Any new kit in our scale is good for us who build in this scale.
  8. Thanks for posting that Rob. I didn't have any pics of the current interior although I have a few of the kit. I wonder if that's strait out of the last issues of the MPC '72 Chevy stepside kits? Also, nice to see the difference in the '67 and '68 seats. Now I'll know what I'm looking at if I ever come across one.
  9. That's funny !! Anyone else instantly recognize the coffee cup? LOL?
  10. Beautiful build and a very cool way to address that awful top on the sedan kit. ???
  11. This is the interior that came in the AMT GMC stepside. I have never had any of the annual fleetsides so I don't know if it's the same door design but I'm betting it is the same as at least the last one made. I added the Vette steering wheel but everything else is as it came in the kit. As far as I can tell, the AMT interiors had the separate console between the seats while the MPC kits had it molded in with the rest of the interior bucket. This is an original '68 Chevy interior. Pretty sure this one is an MPC. Notice the door panels look the same in both kits but everything else in different. Maybe I shouldn't have added that last part, might make things confusing.
  12. Yours looks like it has more flash on it than mine, John. I'm also taking the less added detail route with mine. Just a simple build to replicate the one I built back in the '80s. I think I'm gonna leave the rear axle loose on mine as the mounting area is a bit vague so I'll be able to make sure the tires are centered in the openings when it's all glued together. Even before I modded the rear spring mounts for lowering, there was a good 2/3 scale inch vagueness to where it could end up.
  13. Valom. Nice little kits They even have a small photoetch sheet in some kits They're actually 4 complete kits in the "duels in the sky" boxes and I think all the single plane kits have 2 kits in each box.
  14. This is the "fine" in black to give you an idea of the actual size. The "heavy" is much thicker. I think it would be fine for a 1/700 scale ship.
  15. Cragar made a lot of other wheels designs besides the S/S. By the shape of the spokes, and if they are Cragar as it does say on the center cops, I'd say they look more like "Swingers" than "Super Sports".
  16. Just over looking at yours, It's looking pretty dang good to me.?
  17. Looks good John. Man, your paint turned out better than mine did before polishing. That would have saved me a ton of work. ? No need to apologies to me, I'm sure there's thousands of people building this kit and I'm sure there was more than that who built it just the same when it was first released way back in the '70s. We're just keeping up the tradition. ? BTW, have you ever seen a kit with so many raised ejector pin marks that have to be cleaned up? ?
  18. Get a roll of heavy EZ Line. Railroad modelers use it for power lines, etc and aircraft and ship modelers use it for rigging. It stretches and it's easy to use. I've used the fine stuff for rigging on a 1/144 WW I plane.
  19. So, my custom '62 Chrysler has been featured on the "Wheels are Everything " blog. That's kinda neat. Here's a link. http://www.wheelsareeverything.com/
  20. Hoppersbazaar on e-bay used to sell a '67/'68 grille with the surround molded to it to fit right in the opening from the later cabs. They also had a replacement grille for the actual '67 and '68 cabs. I don't see any on their site tight now but you could try contacting them through e-bay and see if they have any , just not listed right now. The kit hood has enough "meat" to it to file down the front to the correct angle. I did that to mine but it still looks a bit off. I think I should have taken a small pie-gut out of it so it was slightly lower at the front first and it would have turned out better.
  21. "Restarted" this one for the "Replica Build off" but I thought I'd post it up here too for those who don't look in that section. I actually painted this several years ago when the kit was reissued but was never really happy with the paint back then. Decided to take another crack at it last week while going through my stash looking for something else. It ties in well with a build I'm in on the forum. It's going to be a close copy of the one I built back around '80/'82. Only difference will be the wheels. The original build used the chrome wheels from the AMT '79 Bronco. I don't have any now so I'm subbing in a set of the custom wheels from the AMT '69 Torino/Cobra as they're about the same design. Basic black clear coated after the decals were applied and polished out. I'll be lowered a couple scale inches and I'm using the same 2-piece tires as in the original issue. The red on the wheels in the pic is the reflection of my shirt. Interior will be dark red same as the original but I'm going to skip the velour material I used on the seats and door panels this time. I must say though, I haven't cleaned up so many ejector pin marks on a kit in a long time.
  22. Got one of these. The cassette deck plays pretty good, and has a pretty good sound for a tiny radio. Hard to tell from this pic but it's just slightly over a foot long. BUT, it'll also play from a thumb drive or a memory card ,,and it has Bluetooth so it's quite handy. Only complaint is it's mono only ,, not stereo.
  23. OK, so, I actually painted this back a couple years ago when it was first reissued with the intentions right along of recreating the one I had built back around '80/'82. I wasn't happy with the paint then, couldn't get a shine on it but after a few years drying, it polished up pretty good. Black paint was clear coated after the decals were applied. The decals in the new kit are a lot less transparent then the originals were back then. Interior will be dark red but I'm going to skip the red velour I used on the seats and the rest of the inside this time.? The one big difference will be the wheels. I originally used the chrome wheels in the AMT '79 Bronco but they're pretty hard to come by now so I'm using the custom wheels from the AMT '69 Torino/Cobra. They look pretty close to the ones from the Bronco. I am using a set of the 2-peice tires the same as came in the original kit though. I'm also lowering the thing about a scale 2 inches all around.
  24. You guys do realize he's never been back here in 5 years and will never see your comments, right?
