1957 Chevrolet 150 Black Widow
Can-Con replied to Jim B's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Valom. Nice little kits They even have a small photoetch sheet in some kits They're actually 4 complete kits in the "duels in the sky" boxes and I think all the single plane kits have 2 kits in each box. -

This is the "fine" in black to give you an idea of the actual size. The "heavy" is much thicker. I think it would be fine for a 1/700 scale ship. -
Cragar made a lot of other wheels designs besides the S/S. By the shape of the spokes, and if they are Cragar as it does say on the center cops, I'd say they look more like "Swingers" than "Super Sports".

AMT Phantom Ford Van

Looks good John. Man, your paint turned out better than mine did before polishing. That would have saved me a ton of work. ? No need to apologies to me, I'm sure there's thousands of people building this kit and I'm sure there was more than that who built it just the same when it was first released way back in the '70s. We're just keeping up the tradition. ? BTW, have you ever seen a kit with so many raised ejector pin marks that have to be cleaned up? ? -
What kit does this go to?

Get a roll of heavy EZ Line. Railroad modelers use it for power lines, etc and aircraft and ship modelers use it for rigging. It stretches and it's easy to use. I've used the fine stuff for rigging on a 1/144 WW I plane. -
Hoppersbazaar on e-bay used to sell a '67/'68 grille with the surround molded to it to fit right in the opening from the later cabs. They also had a replacement grille for the actual '67 and '68 cabs. I don't see any on their site tight now but you could try contacting them through e-bay and see if they have any , just not listed right now. The kit hood has enough "meat" to it to file down the front to the correct angle. I did that to mine but it still looks a bit off. I think I should have taken a small pie-gut out of it so it was slightly lower at the front first and it would have turned out better.

"Vantom" Ford van

"Restarted" this one for the "Replica Build off" but I thought I'd post it up here too for those who don't look in that section. I actually painted this several years ago when the kit was reissued but was never really happy with the paint back then. Decided to take another crack at it last week while going through my stash looking for something else. It ties in well with a build I'm in on the forum. It's going to be a close copy of the one I built back around '80/'82. Only difference will be the wheels. The original build used the chrome wheels from the AMT '79 Bronco. I don't have any now so I'm subbing in a set of the custom wheels from the AMT '69 Torino/Cobra as they're about the same design. Basic black clear coated after the decals were applied and polished out. I'll be lowered a couple scale inches and I'm using the same 2-piece tires as in the original issue. The red on the wheels in the pic is the reflection of my shirt. Interior will be dark red same as the original but I'm going to skip the velour material I used on the seats and door panels this time. I must say though, I haven't cleaned up so many ejector pin marks on a kit in a long time. -
What Did You Get Today? (Not Model Related)
Can-Con replied to LOBBS's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Got one of these. The cassette deck plays pretty good, and has a pretty good sound for a tiny radio. Hard to tell from this pic but it's just slightly over a foot long. BUT, it'll also play from a thumb drive or a memory card ,,and it has Bluetooth so it's quite handy. Only complaint is it's mono only ,, not stereo. -
OK, so, I actually painted this back a couple years ago when it was first reissued with the intentions right along of recreating the one I had built back around '80/'82. I wasn't happy with the paint then, couldn't get a shine on it but after a few years drying, it polished up pretty good. Black paint was clear coated after the decals were applied. The decals in the new kit are a lot less transparent then the originals were back then. Interior will be dark red but I'm going to skip the red velour I used on the seats and the rest of the inside this time.? The one big difference will be the wheels. I originally used the chrome wheels in the AMT '79 Bronco but they're pretty hard to come by now so I'm using the custom wheels from the AMT '69 Torino/Cobra. They look pretty close to the ones from the Bronco. I am using a set of the 2-peice tires the same as came in the original kit though. I'm also lowering the thing about a scale 2 inches all around.

You guys do realize he's never been back here in 5 years and will never see your comments, right?

Looks great. I picked up one recently and plan to do it in dark green. How were those gold pinstrip decals to apply? They look kind of tricky.
-
Actually, if it's OK with JJ, I'd like to switch kits. Still a van but it's the Ford "Vantom" reissue. I already had painted it a couple years ago so it's a bit less work to finish up than starting a whole new kit. Also it fits in this build off as it was always going to be a copy of one I had built back in the early '80s. The only difference will be the wheels. I had used the plated "aluminum" wheels from the AMT '79 Bronco on it. Pretty hard to come by now so I'm substituteing the shutom wheels from the AMT '69 Torino/Cobra sas they're the same style and very close to what I originally used. I'm even using those old AMT 2-peice hard vinyl big n' little tires on it.

Looks really good to me Steve. I can't see any of the flaws toy mentioned in your pics. I think it turned out great ???
-
One thing they did get right that MPC didn't is the vents on the front fenders. MPC got them too high, they're closet to the right place on the palmer kit. , , Not as correctly shaped, but closer to the right place.
-
Looks much better like that Snake. BTW, IF you want to get a pair of rear wheels that match the front, look in the MPC/AMT '69 Charger Daytona. They put 2 slightly different styles of wheel in some of the kits but I don't know as to which kit has which wheels. Possibly the older kits with the red car have one design and the gold car kits have the other but??

1992 Ford F150 Nite
Can-Con replied to Chuck Most's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
They were only sold in '91 and '92. The painting company I worked for back then painted the largest Ford truck dealer in the province every summer alternating between outside one year and inside the next for 6 or 7 years. They had a couple on the lot back then but even when new, they were very rare. The package could also be had on the full size Bronco but that was super rare. I've never seen one of those. -
