Have you checked your car lately?
Can-Con replied to SfanGoch's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I had to replace the roller bearings in my muffler last week. -
Why isn't there anymore 2d SUV
Can-Con replied to youpey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Seems this has been going in that direction for quite a while. About 25 years ago a buddy of mine wanted a new Dodge pickup for work. He wanted a regular 2 door cab and an 8 foot bed, no carpet, low options as possible. There were none anywhere near here . He had to order it from the dealer. -
A reminder for all you Hot Rod model builders.....

That was the heavy truck guys and they wanted a separate section for "commercial" trucks Bob. ,,, and I agree with that. They don't want builds like mine in their section, so I've been told more than once. -

Dan, I was responding to Tom's remark and asked him if that's what he was referring to. Possibly you did not notice that. No need to be snarky, If I had posted a remark like that to you, I bet you'd give me a demerit point. I know you'r view on the subject, you've told me it before. And as I've told you, I disagree with you. In this modern day and age, many people will buy a pickup, van or suv in place of a car. It has the same use in the household. The governments don't make a distinction between a car and pickup or suv unless it it registered in a company name. You live in what's pretty well the truck capitol of Canada, I don't have to tell you this. You see it every day. When this forum started, there wasn't separate under glass sections for cars and basically, everything else. The heavy truck guys wanted a separate section for themselves and when it happened, everything that was not a car got lumped into it. I agree with a heavy commercial section but I feel the light commercial subjects should be included in just a "commercial" section. Pickups such as I build, vans and suvs not with company markings should be in the section with cars. When I enter a show or contest with one of my pickups, it's in the same section as the cars in almost every show I've ever been to. Anyway, I know nothing's gonna change. BUT, I'm posting the next pickup I finish in the cars "under glass" section. -
Honestly, I didn't even notice what section it was in when I made responses to it until you complained about it. I come on here and just hit the "posts since last visit" button and get the new posts from all the board. Personally I think having a separate "news and reviews" section for trucks and cars is BS. but whatever.
-
Maybe you can ask one of the moderators to move the offending posts then . Possibly even go into the original post and remove the references to all non-truck items on the list. Can't have the truck and car builders mixing, you know. But seriously, if it's bothering you that much you should complain to a moderator and have the posts moved or deleted.

BTW, here's a couple shots of my '74 Ron's referring to in his post. He should finish his up too.

You mean like these two Tom? No, they don't look like commercial vehicles to me either.I think different people have different definitions of "commercial". To me, a commercial vehicle is one with company markings. No matter if it's a tractor trailer or a Pinto with a pizza sign on the roof. Your Volare delivery car would be a good example of that. -

IIRC, I was not allowed to put this one in the regular "Under Glass" section, Snake. -
You might be able to cut down a '64 Impala grille and add some thin strip for the thicker bars. It could also be made from the PE for a boat. Looks like the railing if you knew what size you need. It comes in different scales. It's also possible it's custom made.

Why wait for a new chrome plater to open up? Did something happen to Little Motor Kar Company and that new guy who started plating a year or two ago?

Easiest, safest way is to drill a smaller hole all the way through and use your X-acto knife and round needle files to trim and file the hole the rest of the way to the outside edge of the raised ring. Maybe a cone shaped cutter in your Dremmel if you're brave. Then put in new lenses and reflectors. I've tried grinding them out with a small ball cutter in my Dremmel but almost always slip and make a gouge somewhere I don't want one.

That was the AMT '76 kit that was reworked into the '70 back then, not the MPC. I'm pretty sure it's the newer tool kit that's being released with a new body and front end. I hope they corrected the rear 1/4 panels this time. The body is the one thing that the old kits pretty well nailed originally.

Just checked my AMT '67 Mustang GT and '67 Shelby and both are an exact match. -
I do similar also. BUT, I have noticed a difference in the amount of "looks" and comments depending on where I make a post. IF I post a finished car in "Under Glass", I get almost twice as much traffic than if I had posted a pickup in the "Under Glass, Pickups, Vans,,," section. Years ago, when there wasn't the separation, I didn't notice this. It seemed to be fairly even. I just find that odd as I build pickups in basically the same style I would a car. I don't know why that is. Just stating my personal experience. Read of that what you will.

Most of the '70 'Cudas I see do have that chrome. I think maybe it just shows up better on the black grilles. Kinda disappears on the argent ones.
-
I'll be getting at least one too. The only thing really off-putting to me was the height of the front fenders. That doesn't look right to me compared to the JoHan and MPC. But, looking at Stu's pics above, maybe it's JoHan and MPC that were off. It's long been rumored that the sculptors of those old tools back then took certain "libertys" when sculpting the masters , sweeting a line here or a crease there. Still, the old kits look "right" and the new one looks "off" to me. But not "off" enough to stop me from building it.

'78 RJ3 Citron green poly. I checked Auto Color Library and the '78 Plymouth chart has a list for the Trail Duster with all the same colors on it as on the page below. -
The "Resto Rods" kits have those extra parts in then that was tooled up just for them. The '66 Galaxie in that series also has that extra engine. Generic big block Ford. I'm pretty sure all the kits in that series came with big wheels, racing seats that matched the stock upholstery and an extra engine. All tooled up just for that release. I think the Ford ones are supposed to represent a crate motor like this one, which [according to the web page it was on] is a 480 HP 428 crate engine. The valve covers in the Galaxie match the ones on this engine any way.

Gold Alclad. Just airbrush light coats on the inside of the glass until you get the desired effect. You'll get that gold tint but still be able to see through it.
