Na ah, 1970 was the first year for the 500. '75 was just the only year it was available in anything besides the Eldorado. And the 472, which was the slightly smaller displacement of the same engine was introduced in '68.
FYI, it was originally designed with the idea of releasing it in up to 600ci form. What a beat that would have been!
You said it yourself Mike, and I've seen a lot of other people say it when the subject of '70s cars comes up. ,,,
Make mine a '72, just because my 1/1 was a '72 but a '71 wouldn't be bad.
OK, so, anyone know how this thing fits in with the other MPC Toronados? Looks like it was produced about the same time frame as the Mannix car but could be the year before or after.
One-shot body and interior maybe?
Yes, none of the resin casters I've seen so far seems to be able to capture the lines of the car correctly.
I have an R+R, which is a cheap copy of the AAM casting and it's off in several places.
I have also held the Modelhaus peice in my hands and while better, it wasn't "better enough" to make me cough up the hundred bucks for it.
I haven't seen the Airtraxs one in person yet so I'd also be interested in seeing if the roof/rear window/deck lid area was corrected.
Hi Patrick.
yes, you are correct about the tail gate. I used the part from a '65 with the letters and made the trough just above it from scraps of sheet plastic.
I did the side trim with two sizes of plastistruct strips. Ran them parallel with each other leaving a small gap for the black strip between them.
If you're gonna make a '67 or '68 from a cab that wasn't originally, remember you will need to do something with the gap left around the grille insert. That area is moulded to the cab on those kits. [unless of corse you got one of those resin grilles with it already attached]
You might also want to think about modifying the tail light area, it's awful on those kits.
I'm totally convinced that it was the sheer power of his incredible mind that kept him alive for so long.
It's a hell of a disease , My uncle Albert, who was helping me with my 1/1 car was diagnosed with ALS about 1 and 1/2 years ago and it works fast on most people. 3 years from first diagnosis is the norm.
Airbrushed a custom mix of Tamiya acrylics.
Basically clear with a bit of clear green and clear blue sprayed on the inside then clearcoated and polished out .
Thanks Jonathan and Ron.
I got it at NNL East over 10 years ago.
At that time an unknown resin caster was doing these and various retailers like Model King, Spotlight Hobbies, Model Roundup and a few others were selling these kits rather cheaply. I haven't seen anyone selling them in quite a while now.
Actually, I made the inner section of the tires. The red line and the black between it and the rim is made from sheet plastic. Built it out large enough so a "23 Pegasus tire slips right on snug.
First thing I noticed when I looked for reference pics is that this is the interior for a '65, not a '66.
That's OK though as it's just a quickie curbside build.
I just sprayed everything the same dark red I used on the body, flocked the floor and did some detailing with foil and flat black paint on the dash, a bit of foil on the console and sided of the seats and silver paint on the rest of the interior.
It's all glued in the body now and I'm working on a flat sheet chassis. Should have pics of the finished car up tomorrow evening.
You mean like this Snake?
I think it's from the top coats drying too fast and shrinking and the underlying coats not being completely cured.
Only thing I could do is strip it and redo the car. It's now in primer but I never got around to redoing all that candy and fade work.
If you mean mine Steve, it's House of Color candy brandywine over a metallic pink base. It turned out a bit lighter than I expected but I'm happy with it.
