That actually looks pretty good after you got the old paint off. Looks like a pretty easy fix too. But after you get the panel glued back in, instead of finishing it off with putty, I'd "V" out the seam , fill it with plastic strip glued down with liquid cement and sand it flush. That will give you a much stronger joint and minimise the risk of it ghosting when you paint it. Still might take a small amount of filler but much less.

You nailed that one !!

Model Car Garage makes PE mesh. Don't know if they make square pattern though. That's the body you're getting? It's just the hardtop body with the top cut off, you could do that yourself if you can do the bumpers and grille. I used to own a '70 Skylark cvt, that body is completely wrong from the roof opening back. Notice how the 1/4 panel goes almost strait back from where the window opening stops and the boot starts and the resin body has a pronounced hump where the roof was cut off? and how the tulip panel between the roof and trunk lid does not kick up at the sides like on a hardtop? If you have an AMT '69 Chevelle convertible and a hardtop you can compare this area on those to see what I mean. Here's a couple pics also . Good luck with it.

Hello after the hurricane!
Can-Con replied to ismaelg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've thought about you many times in the last couple months old friend. Overjoyed to hear that you and your family came through the ordeal in relatively good shape. -
You never know, dosen't hurt to ask and let them know how you feel on the subject. I'm all asked out.

Joke's on you Mike, I don't have any friends here. They all packed up and left years ago. You can insult me all you want, I don't give a flying I was pointing out to Anthony and Chuck that the majority of pickup builders did not want to be put into the "commercial" class as they did not build "commercial" vehicles and it was brought up with the mods several times . Simple as that. And yes, some of them did express concern that thier builds would not be seen down here at the bottom of the page ,,"basement" ,as it was referred to by several people at the time. I don't know, maybe you wern't here when that was all happening as you only joined 5 years ago. In the meantime, here's a couple of my "junk light duty trucks" as Matthew puts it to look at. If you want to see any of my cars,, well ,, you know where to go too.

Anthony, Chuck, why don't you two bring your concerns to a moderator and see if you can get any traction on the subject. I tried several times with no luck. Maybe you will fair better. Believe me, we don't like putting our "pickup junk" down here in the basement any more than you like having it here. and yes, I've had build threads and finished models moved into this section after the words "pickups and vans" was added to the titles.

The original all metal car was updated several times. Hot Rod Magazine also built 6 or 7 with fiberglass flares and spoilers for a give-away contest. They also sold some fiberglass kits so the one in the pics probably isn't the original all-steel one. Remember, 18 inch wheels wern't even a thing back in the '70s when the car was originally built. Those pics are more recent. Another earlier repaint, I'd LOVE to get another crack at that kit. Built an original when I was about 12 or 13.

I got your wild custom ,, but I didn't use some of the parts in the box.

I have the 2004 reissue with the aqua car on the box, it's in that one. Wasn't in the Countdown issue.

What kit did these jacks come from
Can-Con replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It was reissued this year [or early last] no jacks like that one. I agree, looks like the Dodge pickup one to me. -
Yup. I tried to talk some sense about this issue into the powers that be at the time but he was having none of it. "They" even went so far as to move some T-bucket hot rods to this section because that had the foot long box on them as most "Fad-T" hotrods had. and don't even mention Elcaminos and Rancheros. Maybe it's time to see if we can get the non-commercial pickups and vans allowed back in the "cars" catagory again where they are put in most shows and contests ?

Let's See Some Glue Bombs!
Can-Con replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I made them. Cut the center from an old MPC 4X4 Dodge pickup 8 bolt wheel and replaced it with the center section from a 5 bolt wheel and cast a few. -
Advice needed re Monogram Fox Mustangs
Can-Con replied to Matt MC's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Matt, I'm attaching a link to the instruction sheet from an MPC '82 Mustang. the one shown above is just an update of the same kit and builds up exactly the same. You can see that the kits MPC tooled up in that era were much more advanced than thier earlier kits and in this case, probably more so than the Monogram offering of the Fox Mustang. http://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/mkiba-build-under-c/mpc-instructions/1-sort/mpc-wild-breed-must/#media This is the kit I'd recommend if you can find one. There is one on e-bay right now but I think the $80.US price is quite high. -

Can-Con replied to Casey's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
As Steven said, the steering wheel is a custom part ,, from the '63 Galaxie. That console looks to have a Chevy SS emblem so I looked it up ,, looks like it's from a '65 Impala -
The Mystery Part I.D. Help Needed, Please, Topic
Can-Con replied to Casey's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
1 is a '64 or '65 Lincoln. I think you are correct on 2 3 is possibly an AMT '70-'72 Chevelle but more likely same year Monte Carlo 4 is MPC '67 GTO 5 is JoHan '77-'79 Coupe DeVille The black bucket seat looks like it's from one of the black issues of the MPC '79 Nova -
Looks good Keagan. You could have made the uprights more "L" shaped with arm the wheels attach to on the top and had it a bit lower in the front and still clear the wheel openings, that's how I did mine. But it does look good that way too. If you find that you have interference with the wheel opening you can try moving the wheel in a bit closer to the frame if necessary. Mine's not finished yet BTW. Got my 1/1 T/A back home last weekend so I've been spending my free time with it instead of at the model bench.
