Full fendered AMT '29 Ford Roadster [Dec 30 update]
Can-Con replied to Can-Con's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Finished up the chassis and got the body and fenders mounted. The engine is pretty well finished. Just need to add an alternator bracket and rad hoses when the glue is fully set on the rad . Interior is almost done. Just needs the dash/windshield and steering wheel added. I modified the AMT kit dash part by cutting away the factory dash panel and grafting on the one from the Revell '30 coupe kit. Also added a photoetch gage cluster with photo reduced gages. Should be able to finish up the details like lights and bumpers tomorrow. Headlights are just sitting on the fenders right now to keep the rad centered, not glued down yet. -

The Official EBay Discussion Thread
Can-Con replied to iamsuperdan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is the problem I've been having., , I do a search and when I see something I'm interested in I klik on it, OK, Then I see below the listing that seller has other thinks listed I may be interested in. So, I klik on "see other items" and is says there are no items from this seller, doesn't even show the item I had originally kliked on in the first place. Anyone else have this happen? , ,and is there any way to keep that guy who's reselling [or trying to resell] diecasts for 5 or 10 times the original retail price from showing up on my searches? Not a big deal but that guy doing that just peeves me off, trying to rip people off who don't know any better. -
'73-87 GM pickup long bed?

Well, since he's never posted any response one way or another, yea, who knows. Depends how you read it, I guess. -
Pic of Jackson series issue from e-bay,,
-
Pretty sure the "Modern Classics" issue had all the parts. I remember building an Avanti in the late '70 with all the custom parts and moon disks and 5 slot wheels [instead of the Halibrands]. There were no older kits available to me in my backwater coal mining town so I'm pretty sure is was the MC issue. Now, looking at the Jackson reissue on e-bay right now, it has a sealed chrome shot with a lot of parts missing from the tree so I know it wasn't that one. Not to mention it came out later then the one I had built. I think the next issue after that was the Prestige issue, all the same parts as the MC issue. Looks like only the Jackson issue was severely de-contented. BTW, Mark, I was just finishing up typing this post when you did your last one.
-
That's just the reissues done since the '80s. There were a few issues before that since it was originally released in the mid '60s.

Quality always outweighs quantity, and that certainly is top quality.

They're all great but,, Man, I love that green '30 coupe!

Johan 67 Eldorado
Can-Con replied to chris chabre's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
What chassis did they build that Eldorado on? I know it's not based on the stock FWD chassis as there's no way those wheels would fit on the FWD suspension. Very cool car BTW. And I'm also going to be doing a custom Eldo, just waiting for the parts I sent out for plating to come back in a month or two. ? -
'73-87 GM pickup long bed?
Can-Con replied to ABC Auto Industry's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
OK, again, the guy has a real truck with a rusty box and wants to know what other boxes will fit on it. " I'm wondering about the truck bed I need to get a different one do to mine having rust and I'm waiting to know what all pick-up truck long size beds are interchangeable" Model truck beds rarely rust. -
Beware HOT resin parts attacking styrene parts
Can-Con replied to Scott Colmer's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
The problem I've had in high humidity is the resin foaming up before it sets. -
Some fantastic builds there. Very impressive work. Sorry about the snow, I sent some for my father and sister in Campbell River, guess it kinda overflowed. ? If it's any consolation, it's pouring rain here in Fredericton NB tonight.?

I think he's talking about an actual 1/1 truck, Brian, not a model. -
Beware HOT resin parts attacking styrene parts
Can-Con replied to Scott Colmer's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Sounds like you didn't get the resin mixed exactly right. I've been using SmoothOn products for almost 20 years and haven't had a problem with it that I didn't cause myself. ? -
Pretty simple curbside but the bodies on those old AMT kits were just soo sharp! Paint is Duplicolor Metalcast yellow with some green added over metallic sandy gold. Wheels are the K/H "Strippers" from the AMT '66 Mercury Park Mane kit. Interior is Tamiya white acrylic with an overcoat of white pearl with beige flocking on the floor. First, a couple before pics,, ,,, and the finished resto with some mild custom touches..
-
They're in the AMT '66 Mercury Park Lane and '53 Corvette. They've also been in a couple other AMT kits in the late '60s and '70s.

Monty, on the website it says the tires are made to fit their "American muscle series" wheels. It says the outside diameter of those wheels is 16.5mm. That's about the same as a typical AMT or MPC wheel at the largest part of the lip of the rim. So they'd be a loose fit on those, might fall right through. Typical 1/24 Monogram wheel is 17mm. So they could fit those of you sand the inside a bit to fit in.

For a while there, this board got downright toxic. I even quit for a year after getting into a curfuffel with another member and a moderator. My avatar says I've been here only since 2014 but I was actually one of the first 100 to join when the site started, by invite no less.

OK, so, paint's polished out and the foiling is done. Interior just need some more detail work and I can button this thing up. Might be done later today. ?

John, your pic illustrates the biggest problem with the new engraving on the interior bucket, the concentric rectangles on the door panels should be centered on the panel, not shoved down to the bottom front corner. The original had it correct. Hopefully, the newly cloned kit will also correct this. Your seatbelts look good. It's gonna be a sharp looking car when it's done.
-
They're not supposed to be seat hinges, they're supposed to be seat belts. Still not anything I'd use in a model car. The interior bucket and seats were retooled when the kit was "restored" from a dirt track race car in the '80s but not very well. The original was much better. I'll wait for the new cloned kit to come out before buying another '65 GTO.

It's getting another set of the K/H Strippers. I really like these wheels for old Thunderbirds. Wish I had a few more good sets.
