AMT '56 Ford Fairlane chassis swap?
Can-Con replied to JollySipper's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
But, if you're wanting to swap the frames just because someone told you the '56 frame is "somewhat simplified", I wouldn't bother unless you plan to do a wild custom . The only real drawback to the '56 kit I see is the molded in exhaust. The rest really isn't bad and even has poseable front wheels. Just because it doesn't have 300 parts doesn't make it bad. -
Pat, I'd try using a set of skirts from an AMT '57 T-bird. Looks like they should fit, have the right curves at the bottom and look right with a bit of filing and sanding. Looks great so far, BTW.

I agree.

RHD Porsche Dash Boards
Can-Con replied to oldcarfan's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have the current reissues of the '67 911R and the '69 911S. I checked both and neither has a RHD dash. [or plated parts for that matter] I didn't check the original issue '73 911RS I have though. -

The new Revell kits have both right and left hand dashes in them. -
It's on the chrome tree. I don't think I've seen an AMT Chevy van kit that didn't have that stock grille in it. Even the A-Team GMC van kits has it.

marbelised plastic kits

Those are the pics I was referring to above, Dan. It doesn't look too bad really but I doubt the swirl pattern on the hood would match up to the pattern on the top of the fenders and cowl panel. -
I think you did good David all things concidered. And I wouldn't worry too much about not sanding the seams off those slicks. A lot of slicks actually have a seam around the center just like that when they're new.

It was white with light blue and a little dark brown/black in it. There's some pics of an unpainted kit on the new if you do a google image search. -

Monogram did this kit like that. IIRC, it wasn't very popular. The show wasn't either, cancelled after 13 episodes. The original Monkees were having a bit of renewed popularity at the time so I guess this was a cash grab by the TV producers. -

Well, he must have been paid for them at some point in time or they wouldn't be out there. -

I don't think you took any business away from Kris. Spotlight get them from Kris so he gets paid for them either way. -

The body? Tamiya gloss black spray ,, TS-14,IIRC. -
Same thing probably happened with the MPC '71 Impala convertible. The image in the brochure and the kit both have squared corners at the top of the windshield instead of the rounded corners like the real thing has.

The basic chassis is done and painted black. I did a little fabrication today. Made a simple recessed firewall to clear the engine. It's just roughed in right now, still need to clean up the edges before paint.
