  1. It depends on how much you like trains, I guess. Since it's so close to me, I can drop down anytime I want, but still usually manage to spend several hours there. The Big Boy is definitely showing some serious deterioration as a consequence of being stored outdoors. There was talk of a restoration, then moving it under shelter, but I have no idea if they ever proceeded or not. I have the Revell kit of the 4-8-8-4, so took quite a few detail photos so far, but I'll be headed down there again this spring to snatch a bunch more.
  2. Yep, that sounds about right. Oh, and Bill, if you ever get to St Louis, check out the transportation museum here; lots and lots of locomotives and other train stuff, including the 4006 4-8-8-4 Big Boy, most impressive.
  3. Oh yes, an excellent deal. How big it is, once completed, I don't really know, but it's pretty large. I've seen a couple built before, and they can be pretty impressive.
  4. I get lucky sometimes too. A couple of years ago, some guy was blowing out this 1:350 Enterprise kit for $20 each, so my friend bought three and gave me one.
  5. Bit by bit, the parts for my seemingly endless new PC build are arriving, this time a Seagate Barracuda 2TB SATA HDD.
  6. Real nice score on the Constitution, John; I think I paid $80 for mine, but it's well worth it. I too have the same C-57D kit, Joe, and it is a real monster of a kit. Can't say when I'll ever actually build it, but still,...
  7. Yes, I had encountered that page while searching for general F-105 stuff for my review. It looks like he did a great job on the old Monogram kit.
  8. I had both the D & G models at one time too (Trumpeter boxings), but sold them both before I'd ever really had a chance to look at them well. While I do like the overall silver birds, I still prefer the SEA scheme, so that's what I'll do mine as. I'm currently writing a rather comprehensive review of the D kit for another site, and so far I'd have to say that overall, it's a wonderful foundation to build upon, and should look quite impressive when finished. As to the older kits, I built the Revell B-17, B-24 and B-25 when I was a kid, and loved them all, but there are obviously better kits of them out there now; the Hong Kong models B-25's, B-17G, & E/F, and soon a Trumpeter B-24, all in 1:32 scale.
  9. One more that I recently added to my seemingly ever-hungry stash.
  10. Looks real nice. I've been wanting the Ginter book on the Mariner for some time now, but have no idea when I'll ever actually get it. And for me, the Minicraft kit, will be the way I'll go.
  11. Very cool info, and I really appreciate it, guys. I'd never bother with a resin kit anyway, as I already have enough problems with the plastic kits. I'll probably end up grabbing one of the 1:24 scale ICM kits.
  12. Very nifty indeed, Phillip. This reminds that I need to get back to work on this.
  13. I had the Polar Lights re-box of the Forgotten Prisoner, but traded it to someone here.
  14. Revell never really had a problem with swastika decals (that I'm aware of), but Revell of Germany is another story. And yes, the Hasegawa and new Revell '109G's (possibly even the Trumpeter kits), are much better than this old kit, Hasegawa being the best of the three, in my opinion.
  15. A really good friend gave me this as an early birthday gift last year, but I forgot to post it.
  16. And another cool Christmas gift for me.
  17. Speaking of Mustangs, I received this as a gift at Christmas.
  18. Nice grab, Scott. I've always liked trains, and still dream of my own layout,... someday.
  19. Sad stuff, for sure. Many of the cast are now gone.
  20. Great. Thank you, fellas, I just knew someone here would know for sure. (I've been watching a 10 part documentary on Hitler's bodyguard, and the big Mercedes is featured prominently in several episodes.)
  21. So far, I've found that Marui did a 1:35 kit, and Hasegawa did a 1:72 kit, but are there any others, preferably in 1:35 scale (and not die-cast)?
  22. I have yet to explore, but noticed that it had changed somewhat.
  23. Amen, brother. I do the same thing with books; no real need, as such, just a monthly gift to myself. This month I ordered two books, one on the F-104 Starfighter and the other on the F-105 Thunderchief.
  24. I've certainly given some thought to getting a train set for the tree, and may eventually do just that. Speaking of trains and Christmas, it'll soon be time for me to watch The Polar Express again.
