Sweet little Falcon! I wish the green showed up better on my computer! It's such a great color! I love the first generation Falcons. My uncle Ray had one and would let me drive it in the country when I was like 11 years old!

Snake was kind enough to send me decals for this kit. When we were emailing I told him what this build was about and he suggested that I should post it when I was done and posted the finished build. I am hoping to locate Bill's wife or son so I can send this build to them in remembrance of a guy who was a great friend to everyone he met! I am building a replica of a car that belonged to a mechanic we called Hippy I worked with in the VW shop. He bought it wrecked and I mean a total wreck for 600 dollars and like the Phoenix it rose from the ashes. It only had 19'000 miles on it when he bought it out of a garage where it had been from late 1969 to 1976. Took him 15 years (1991) to get it close to done when cancer stopped him. All of us in the shop pitched in and got the engine and trans back in, buffed out the pearl lacquer paint job and put all the chrome back on and installed and detailed the interior. He wound up back in the hospital for treatment and they said he was doing great and would be out in a week. That Friday afternoon the tires finally came in (UPS lost them for a week and a half) and we were going to drive it down to the hospital and his wife was going to wheel him out to see it. We were closing the shop just before 5:00 and the phone rings and his son told us his dad had died unexpectedly about 4:30. His wife drove the Vette with her son riding co-pilot behind the Hearse on Hippy Bill's last ride. From what I have heard since he passed the Vette only gets driven 4 times a year when she goes to the cemetery and back, his birthday, their anniversary, Christmas and their son's birthday. About a 35 mile round trip.

When you are poor or on a fixed income you just do what you have to do! I drive a 2006 HHR with 170'000 miles on it. Just had to put another pair of tires on it after tread started separating on one. Already replaced the other two a while back for the same reason. The old tires still had well oner 80% tread left but were dry rotted bad! Last summer replaced the entire exhaust system including the cat converter and the sensors. This spring I will have to replace the lower control arms and struts and springs as I have a coil broke on one. Also need to do the rear brakes. When you can't afford a new one you just have to keep the old one going as long as you safely can! In your case Kevin I would consider looking for another cheap car if it is rusted that bad. Most shops are not going to touch suspension or frame rust. Too big of a liability!

Got a call from a guy I haven't heard from in 6 months to come and give him a ride after the Super Bowl was over. He was down town at a bar. I had to go in and find him when I got there and the bar was packed and people kept looking out the windows and door and no one was leaving. I asked him what the deal was and he said an unmarked cop car was across the street waiting for people to leave so they could bust them for drunk driving. I asked who told him that and he said look for yourself! I looked out and saw the car across the street. Had tinted windows so couldn't see if it was occupied so walked across the street and behind to see the plate. Came back into the bar and had the DJ that had just started playing to ask who owns the black Crown Vic across the street and some college aged girl in the back yelled out hers and asked why!LOL I gave him and a few others a ride home they didn't need to be driving.

I'm happy for Andy Reid! I didn't watch the whole game but what I saw of it was good from what I did see!

Richard, our prayers will be going out for you! Just keep the faith and all will be well. Just look forward to how much better you will feel after this is done and you are healed up! My wife has had her aortic valve replace twice as well as a resection done on her aorta below the heart. Monday we will be back at Northwestern in Chicago to talk to the team about replacing a now failing bicuspid valve. Hopefully they can do it without cracking her chest open again. She like you is very nervous but like she says, you just go and get it done and trust in the talent and knowledge that God has intrusted to the surgeon and the staff that will be giving you care!

Just like flying over water, or sand you cannot let yourself take your eye off the altimeter because if you look at the ground you will get disoriented and lose altitude every time! (experience) He received a warning from the tower that he was too low and increased his altitude but then seemed to have dropped 300 feet again prior to crashing. Bottom line, he should not have been in the air given conditions at the time.

I agree. They said the pilot received clearance to fly just before takeoff. I'd hate to be the one that gave the go ahead. The Chopper was equipped for and pilot rated for instrument but I would not have left the ground in the conditions described especially with a passenger list including that many an some being kids. No place anyone has to be is that important as to put ones child in peril! My thoughts and prayers go out to all the families who lost loved ones.

If you really want to get technical it was a hold over from and the last of the fat fendered design of cars from the 40's! Just because it is a VW does not change that! I remember the old guys whining at a local car show when the Bugs were put in the same corral as their old Fords and Chevys!LOL

Sure was a lot of old iron on the road that day! Love the old Dodge truck!

Had a couple sitting in the parts yard behind the s VW shop back in the 80's & early 90's and a couple conversion kits for the Ford and Rolls sitting around that no one wanted!

Another tire went bad on the HHR. So now have to replace the front tires. Had the same issue about 4 months ago one of the rears went bad. Less than 1,4000 miles on them! Of course I guess being 7 years old might have something to do with it!LOL

While I love the 64 drag cars the 63 is just a prettier less boxy looking car. Rare to see one in drag form.

I agree, just seems that some of my best and most enjoyable work is on a built up or what was left of one that someone else discarded and I saved from the trash! I guess it is just the challenge and seeing the transformation that makes it so! Just like builds from the parts box!
