DRIPTROIT 71 replied to DRIPTROIT 71's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks Brian!! Thanks Tommy!! I don't think speeding tickets will be a problem!? Thanks David!! Thanks Jim!! Thanks Chris!! Thanks Steve!! I am trying to build this Carolina fleet to be show trucks that only hook to a trailer for a show, so I was trying to replicate very light wear. Thanks Bob!! I have bought my share of red paint this year.? Thanks Alberto!! Thanks for identifying the origin of this one as well! I did use the windshield and rear glass along with the headlights and buckets out of the pickup kit. Thanks Scott!! I remember the Carolina trucks very well, but I don't seem to remember seeing any F8000s at all, but my memory isn't what it used to be either. Thanks Justin!! Thanks Andrew!! Thanks Warren!! Thanks Victor!! If I ever get them all done, I plan to do a group picture. Thanks Chuck!! I am actually having the decals made now to make a refrigerated trailer. I am working on a B-Model now and then possibly a 4070a 73" cab, and then the trailer. -

Charles, your builds always amaze me. It is hard to believe that all of this was made from scratch. I wish that I had half of your talent. I have picked up a few pointers from you over the years though. This build looks awesome top to bottom! Excellent work all the way! -

AMT CF White Freightliner
DRIPTROIT 71 replied to OldTrucker's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I’ve only seen it on CF trucks. I read that is was so the driver could see the awning over the dock as he backed in to make sure that the trailer cleared. Whether that is the reason or not I don’t know. -

Ford LN 8000 question
DRIPTROIT 71 replied to noname's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The engine is technically a v225 Ford Engine made by Cat. If you look at the valve cover in the kit, it says V225. Jim is right, the V225 was just an 1160 Cat. This would have been early 70s. The 1100 Cat engines were very similar to the 3208 Cats found in later models. I converted (for the most part) one into a 3208 for my F8000 that I am working on now. -

Looks great Jim! I really like it! I used to have a 78 short bed 4x4. This one brings back memories.
