Kenworth wrecker question
stavanzer replied to Digger's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Also, remember that many real world wreckers are custom built trucks. Hand fabricated, and one of a kind. So, however you build one, no one can say you are 'wrong' in how you did it. -
Kenworth wrecker question
stavanzer replied to Digger's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
How hard would it be to get the AMT Peterbilt Wrecker? I'd start by trying to kit bash the two kits. The Kenworth W900 you have may need to have the frame rail lengthened. It will be a lot of work, to combine the kits, but it could work. -
The Squadron/Signal book may b e harder to find, but will have lotsa pics also. I am old enough to have come from an era when S/S books were pretty much the Gold Standard of reference books. (for good or bad). You could try chasing individual photos on ebay, but that gets expensive fast, unless you know exactly what you want.

Illegal Turbo? Was using the Turbo not allowed? Or did they pull a 'fast one' and use the wrong turbo?

Cool! Keep it coming! -
Not much (if anything) in common with other Jeeps. Notice it does not even have the Trademark Jeep Seven Slot grille.

Cammer, 427 SOHC Ford, in kit form.
stavanzer replied to stavanzer's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks, Mark. That's what I thought I remembered, but I could be sure. On to the others, I guess. Maybe I should just get Iceman's print, but I wanted to see what kit engines were out there. -

They were fighter planes. Quite advanced when designed in 1930-32. Better than anything the Americans had at the time. But it was still in some squadrons in 1940, and by then it was outclassed. But, for a little while, the Polish AF had one of the best fighter planes in the world. -
Man, I saw similar Tugs towing engines on the flight lines daily for most of my time in the Air Force. Ours were Olive Drab, and the big P&W F100 is huge compared to the Sabre engine, but wow that brings back memories. All it needs is a Crew Chief, in a T-Shirt driving the thing! Man, Mark you hit Dead Center on this project! Thanks!

HPI Guy Asphalt Modified Racer Review
stavanzer replied to Daddyfink's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Well, if there will be 3 more versions, maybe there will be kits available for the mainstream. I suspect they will be hitting eBay soon, as well. From the reviews, it seems like a complicated kit. I wonder how easy it will build. This kit has been in development for some time, so I will assume that it assembles well, but CAD is one thing, the real world another. It sure looks like a neat kit. -

Cammer, 427 SOHC Ford, in kit form.
stavanzer posted a topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Years ago, Tim Boyd (I think) did a Comparo Article in SAE, of all the 427 SOHC Engines available in kits. He compared 4 or 5 engines, and had photos. I'm wanting that information, now, but no longer have an SAE collection. Does anyone have this article? I just need to know what kits have this motor. I remember that the "Ohio George" Willy's had one and so did the Revell Henry J and Austin kits, but cannot remember any others. And which ones are any good? Anyone have an opinion on which engines are lousy? I think the Revell 427 is supposed to be a Turkey, but I don't know about any others. Thanks, Alan -
Is Hobby Lobby still 40% off this week? I'm planning on stopping in tomorrow to look at the Local store.
