Easy to Mock. Harder to Do.
-
It is a cute little thing. I can see why it never caught on. Wooden Bumpers, Fibreglass Front End, Small Bed. Designed for a market that really did not exist. It is no wonder they sold so few (1000+). That Said, I'd have owned one, just to be contrary. Be great for running down to the Coffee Shop to hang out with the Ole Farts every Saturday Morning..... With a Plymouth Flathead 6, it must have had plenty of power. When this kit does arrive, the AMT '41 Plymouth should give you some parts swapping options, since the Real Powells were built on Plymouth Chassis.

What would YOU like to see as a model
stavanzer replied to JeroenM3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks, Russell. Another Rabbit Hole to go down. Looking at the photos, it looks like it would be cramped for anybody taller than about 5'10"! Your's sure looks sweet though. I I wasn't Fat'n'Old, I'd like one. -
AMT 1/25 2021 Bronco First Edition
stavanzer replied to Jordan White's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Thank You, Tim! I suspect going forward that we will see that "What sells on Monday", will get more consideration from Model Companies, if only to try to eek out more sales beyond the now standard 5K production run. In this particular case< can see Ford Possibly helping behind the scenes with more than just information, in order to have a factory correct kit out there. Notice I say "Possibly".... I have no insider connections, and I am just Guessing about the future. As to this kit. I think the tires look a bit cartoonish and silly, but then after looking at some modern tire catalogs, many new 4x4 tires are looking cartoonish and silly, so I guess the kit tires are correct. Other than that, I cannot wait to build one. Can you see one in 21st Century "Baywatch" colours? -
You and me both, Aaron. I feel your pain.

I'm a Ford Noob. I know nothing about Mustangs really. I just saw that the production numbers seemed small for such a highly desired kit.

Any thoughts on this tooling possibly spawning a 4 door sometime in the future? -
Were not very many of these things built, were there? About 1800 of them or so? I wonder how many Calypso Coral cars survive?

Revell, MPC and Monogram all kitted the Squarebody Blazer. The Revell and the MPC were simplified Snap Kits, but the MOnogram is decent. My only hope is that the sales for the "Pulldozer. Mad Mudder, Pulled Pork" Blazer will persuade Quantum Germany to restore the stock parts to the Blazer and give us the Big Horn Sheriff's Blazer in some form. -

Where Did All The Krylon Go?

My Local Hobby Lobby is out of Krylon Short Cuts too. Time to start looking for more. I had no idea this was nationwide. Thanks for the heads up. -
Because I don't know much about this industry
stavanzer replied to noname's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It is all about Sales. Hemi's get them in, 383's get them sold. Since this business started off, catering to the OEM's, giving toys to Jr. to sell cars, much of what has happened since must be understood that way. This dictated choice of Body Styles (Most Popular/Expensive) and Trim Levels (Highest) Those may not be the cars that got sold, but those were the cars that the OEM wanted the potential buyer thinking of. Thus, the cars you see modeled from 1958 to about 1985 or so. There were exceptions, but they are just that, Exceptions. Rarities. Of, course Model Car Companies(AMT, Revell, Mpc. & Monogram) Finally began to acknowledge the existence of the Adult Modeler in the late 1980s/early 1990's (AMT's 1966 Chevelle) but still had a long way to go. We are getting more and more kits directed at (Us, the guys who really buy them) and fewer kits directed at (Big Box Purchasing Managers, & Assorted Corporate Buyers) . It is a slow improvement. Will we see more of the cars and trucks that "NoName" wants? My Guess is, only at the margins. Todays Model Companies are relatively small compared to the Behemoths of Yore, and so cannot tool up kits that cannot make a "First Pass Business Case" for several variants and brand extensions very often. The Upcoming Round2 "Green Hornet" seems to swim upstream against this, but it is aimed at the Collectibles Crowd, more than Modelers. MY guess is that 3 out of every 4 Green Hornets sold will never be opened by the original purchaser. But look at what Round2 Has Chosen to spend new tooling dollars on? A 2021/22/22 Dodge Charger Four Door, & a 2021/22 Bronco Two Door. 50% of Round2's New Kits for next year are 4 doors. So, the changes in the industry are happening. A new Golden Age is dawning. 3D Printing, Smaller runs of Cloned Kits that have not been see in 40 or 50 years. Great Decals. -
Sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my Younger Sister two weeks ago to Liver/Lung cancer after a one year battle. She was only 55. Losing your sister after all that time after the diagnosis had to have really hurt. I am so sorry!

1/24 Revell '79 ('81?) Chevrolet Camaro Z/28
stavanzer replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Well, I'll take it any way they send it. This kit as a Custom is still better than the Revell Snap-a-roo kit. BTW, thanks for sharing your knowledge of this kit's history. As you can see up in that thread, I tried to show as much of the history as I could with the direction sheets, but direct info about the contents is always better. Steve G. is always helpful with sharing the details he can share about these kits. -
I've heard that he was working on a Steam Car, and had Gas Vapor/Burner troubles, resulting to burns on the left side of his face. Hi Eye and Ear are supposedly safe so, he will have plenty of healing to do, but hopefully, no permanent damage. He is 72 BTW, so healing may take longer. Edit:: Per TMZ, Clogged Fuel line on 1907 White Steam Car was the issue.

This guy parts out a lot of kits. Here is the MPC Cougar Chassis. Search his listings, he may have other MPC Chassis. https://www.ebay.com/itm/165693458751?hash=item269419893f:g:ZloAAOSwq~VibMA0
