Here's am esoteric subject - anyone else into fountain pens?
stavanzer replied to Monty's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
No, but I use a Puncil to compose these replies... -
There ARE no consequences for their actions. Until it is too late and they get shot or killed, wondering the whole time, "What did I do...."

Just build the silly thing...... It is a Pig's Ear, and will never improve. Just stick it together and enjoy it........! Sometimes we overthink these things............................................................................................

I am still stumped trying to get tiny Revell (or AMT Chromed) chassis parts glued together. I t=strip almost all chromed suspension parts, just so I can get a decent glue joint of them. I am in awe of the guys who build chromed chassis. I wish there was a class on it.

I am thinking about getting the new Moebius Ford F-250 4x4, when it comes out later. Unless something has changed, it may not have the best offroad tires. Can somebody suggest what Resin Offroad Tires they have used that fit the Moebius Rims? I know that Fireball and Scenes Unlimited both do some very sharp tires, but I'd like suggestions on what folks have actually used. I want a period correct look, not the modern 'Fat' Off Road tires of today. I'm looking for the tall, skinny 4x4 tires that I remember from the '60's & '70's. Thanks, Alan

Jeep CJ-2A
stavanzer replied to NOBLNG's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
It looks sharp. A buddy back in the Eighties had one that looked something like this at his father farm. It had been painted in a Primer Red, and then been left to sit outside for many years. Faded paint, rotting seat covers, weathered, grey tires, it was a complete POS. We were visiting his parents cabin, and he asked me if I'd like to go up to the lake to look around. I said yes, and he goes over to this ragged looking Jeep, and starts it up. It looked like it had not moved in years, but it ran and we went up the mountain to the lake. The seats were all springs and rotted canvas, and the whole thing stank and smoked, yet the 30 year old jeep chugged right up the trail to the lake. When we got back, he did not even throw a tarp over it! Just left it, were it had been sitting. It is probably still sitting there today... Anyhow, I saw you build and it instantly brought me back to that day, and that Jeep. Your build reminds me of what that little, red, rusty Jeep must have looked like when they first painted it, back in the day. Thanks for bringing me back to a long forgotten, but special memory! -

Monty! Away with You! Arghhhh! -
This is the Recent Ed Roth kit, isn't it? Be nice to see what tires come with it.
-
Chicken Coupe! I hope nothing on this kit is chromed. It will make for stronger glue joints on the notoriously fiddly Revell Chassis.

A Weird and Unique WWII Custom

Troll through 1944-1949 Popular Mechanics, and Mechanix Illustrated magazines. Many small photos of G.I. Ingenuity in action. Lotsa Jeeps and other small vehicles converted to one off custom jobs. Many very creative men, with time and extra parts on their hands. They built some amazin' things. I cannot find it, but I've seen photos of a SeaBee built Windmill powered Washing machine on a small Pacific Island. -

I wonder about that really Odd Aircleaner that MPC tried to reproduce. It never fits, in any way. -
1/16 Revell Chevy Off-Road Pickup with Suzuki Dirtbike
stavanzer replied to Casey's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Really odd that the Gas Can half migrated over to the Motorcycle Parts area, and did not stay next to the first half. WTH? -
Not a great engine, but it does have one. Although R2 can't change, be aware that there are some really badly placed sprue attachment points on the Grille and Trim Pieces. Very hard to cut cleanly, and will require Molotow or BMF to fix.

I looked over the photos, and I have to say I am surprised by a couple things. 1. The soft, blob-like details. It's like they enlarged the 1/25 scale snap kit. Very little Crispness , or clarity. 2. The fact that the Dirt Bike is built right into the kit, well integrated into the sprues. Lastly. Please, Please somebody shrink those tires down to 1/25 scale! They are (IMHO) the very best part of the kit. I can see many 4x4 builds that could use them. The ex-Monogram High Roller kits for a start. -
Well, I was very glad to be able to get the Toyota FJ Landcruiser with alternate tops last year, so there is some good. It is really great to be able to get the various Rallye cars also. So, I think many builders will find at least a couple kits that interest them. Remember too, that Italeri is focused on Europe, not North America.

This kit is still on the shelf at the local Hobby Lobby. At least it was last month. Not sure there is much need for this kit right now...... But, It will have some different decals at least.

Now, I can finally build that D.A.R.E confiscated 'Slade I've been wanting.

Or, just build the darn thing to the best of your talent, and have fun........ ?

Awesome Showrod Build! The Blue is perfect for this build.

That's wonderful, Casey! Thank you very much for finding this and posting it. I hope it helps future builders of this kit. -

Alex Kustov did a great article in the Other, now Defunct Magazine and accurizing and fixing up this kit to look better. I believe he even molded in the T-tops. He painted the car silver, and used Keith Marks decals. It was a helpful write-up and is worth hunting down if you want to build this kit. -
And, the Blower Hat is too wide for the hole in the hood. Going to need some minor re-engineering on this kit when you build it.

Ford Engine is nice, but very rare in real competition cars, Hemi's and Big Block Chevy Rats appear to be the dominant engine in old photos, although it might be different on the East Coast and Midwest. Hopefully the other engine will be a Hemi. Those tires in front are just awful! Way too wide, and the sidewall is way too short.

V.A. prescribed one for me. After doing the 5 minute version, of the half hour "how to use your new CPAP machine" I was sent home to Use/live with (experiment) with it. It still sits sealed in it's box. I am an 'active sleeper' (i.e. I roll around in bed like a beached trout), and I sleep on my stomach, both conditions that are not CPAP friendly. I'm too old and stubborn to try to change how I sleep, so no CPAP for me. (Jim B, I wish I could send you Mine)
