stavanzer replied to Casey's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I only had the MPC Bronco, of Similar Vintage. I cannot wait to get my hands on it. What other parts from the AMT F-350 will swap onto this kit?- 326 replies

History of Monogram's Squarebody GM Pickups

Hardtop , Hood and Seats, woulde be great! Olsen Bros, are you looking? With the Pulldozer on the way, the Hardtop, Hickey Hood and Seat / Console parts would be great. I'd even cut the flat windows from plastic, if I had to. -
We have reached the Same Conclusions, Keith. Those are mostly my thoughts too. I wish the the Rear Spoiler, Blower parts, and that pesky 4th Kustom Knock off Had been included. I'll wind up buying another kit, just to get a couple parts. I wholeheartedly concur about the 4 Matching tires. So Close, and yet so far......! I had not noticed the missing Header Flanges. I'll have to check check my kit, as those are the Headers I had plannned to use. I'm tying for a Faux Road Race/ Trans Am "Street Cruiser" look.

I am interested in three items from the Right-hand column. Not Much else though. The Deuce and that Camaro look good, and I really like the '55 Chevy.

I had Custom plates on my Suzuki Samurai. My Lic Plate frame, said "The Rat Race is Over" The long Lost Custom Plate said, "Rats Won" I would re-apply for it, but it is just not worth the cost for personalized Lic Plates in California anymore.

Great looking Truck. Neat to see only 19 miles on it!

Outstanding Work! What an awe inspiring build. You knocked this one out of the park, Paul! Got any more pics of the powerplant?

1/25 AMT 1978 Ford Bronco "Wild Hoss"

I had an '88 Samurai. What a Blast to drive! Nimble and fun, I had driven a CJ-5 Before the little 'Zuki, so I knew how to drive it. I never found it to be squirrelly, but I can see how others did. My only complaint was how badly underpowered it was. In most parts of the world the little 1.3 litre engine was probably fine. But Climbing the Hwy 99/I-5 Grapevine in California? Had to run that poor engine at Redline for about 8 miles heading South and about 6 miles heading North to return home. It got awful mileage of course driving from Bakersfield to Valencia, but was okay in town. I would not mind having another one.- 326 replies

Thanks! I'll have to start looking for one.

Thanks for posting another build. I really like the GTX Cars. It has all the IMSA Flare Goodness, dialed up to 11!

Dave, that #16 Car is killer! I really like it. How many liveries did Monogram issue it in? Is it really hard to find now?

70s cars as they really were!

You know what is really notable about these awesome photos? These folks are tooling around in these rare Muscle Cars, Like they don't have a care in the world. It's like they don't know how much some of these cars will be worth They treat them like ordinary cars. Driving them everywhere, putting miles on them, driving them in the rain and snow. You'd think would have been able to know valuable these cars would be, and not had them out on the roads, where they could be hit, or worn out. Almost like they were just cars, not investments. -
Steve, that is exactly what I had been expecting since it was announced. So, Take it as it is, or Not! Up to you.

I am sorry, Dave. It is 2002. But you are correct about the Body Shape Issues. Added to the Poorly Proportioned Engine and the other things, It makes for a kit, that I would never buy again. Other Builders, however strongly Disagree. I wish them well. To me, the kit just Looks wrong. It has always generated strong opinions about size and shapes and decals. Here is proof, for those who have never seen these pages. https://www.bonediggers.com/2-3/alakart/alakart.html Be sure to read this article, Written by Mr. Dave Darby, who commented above. https://www.bonediggers.com/2-3/alakart/alakart.html#kit

History of Monogram's Squarebody GM Pickups

I plan on making the hood from the '76 Pickup fit, and just doing without the Topper, and scrounging up the seats. I'll wind up with Sorta Stock Blazer, but that will be close enough to satisfy me. Might not satisfy others, but I'll be happy. -
For a kit tooled 60+ years ago, Monogram, and then Revell, sure have gotten their moneys worth out of that tooling! I hope I sure hope at least the Headers, spoiler, and Wheelie Bars make it into the kit.

Nothing to "get" right. It is the same old 1990's AMT/Round Two tooling. Only things that can be changed are the Decals, and the directions. But, I agree, better a Instruction Sheet and Better decals would be an improvement.

That body is even worse than described! What a Blah, Blah show! No wonder everybody who built one, calls it out as poorly shaped. Very Nice Chrome Tree though. Looks like both engines use the same induction/scoop.

1/25 AMT 1978 Ford Bronco "Wild Hoss"

I was always partial to the Un-Loved Small Bronco, the Bronco II. I lusted after one back then. Never did get one, but I drive quite a few in my duties as a Used Car mechanic, Gofer Racing Decals has a sheet that would work for several US Govt Bronco's or Ramchargers. https://www.modelroundup.com/product-p/gr-11057.htm- 326 replies

Yeah, Pat, those days are gone forever. Erik Peter's on his Auto blog, had an article explaining why all cars have electric windows and doorlocks now. It turns out it is cheaper and faster to just build every car with the motorized goodies than to shift the build orders on the production line, especially as by the early 2000's the overwhelming majority of cars sold were ordered with the electric windows anyway. That also explains the Trim packages. Easier to just build the car at a fixed trim level, than allow the Ala Carte choices.

You really have the Colour nailed! It looks like so many 'Yotas' I remember seeing back then. There was a time (from the late 1980's, to about the early 2000's,) when these trucks were everywhere in Southern California. About 2006/7 I remember noticing one day, that I saw fewer of them on the roads. Now, sighting one is rare. So far, it looks hauntingly familiar. Great Job. Re, the Diamond Plate Bumpers. Most of them I installed where silver or black painted, not Chrome, These were working trucks for the most part, and the painted bumpers were a cheap necessity, not a Dress Up item. You needed a place to put your foot, when you stepped up into the bed, or stepped down. Especially the 4x4 trucks. You did see chrome ones from tile to time, but mostly you saw battered, bent, twisted bumpers, one end pushed up in a jaunty grin or twisted down in a frown. Rare was the truck that did not have a bumper of some kind. The brush guards in the front were another matter. Unless it was a 4x4, you almost never saw the brush guards. Some Dealers would have a tricked out truck in the showroom, dripping with chrome goodies, Chromed Rollbar, Cibie Off-road Lights, and fancy chromed bumpers. That truck did not get sold too often, as most buyers simply would not pay the mark-up on all the accessories. I suspect it was the same way, were you live. If you watch the very end of the movie "Back to the Future" the scene at the End where Marty has the awesome, 4x4 Toyota truck, perfectly captures, the So-Cal asperation of the time, in regard to a new Truck. Cheers, and keep up the great work.

I spent 4 hours there in 1987, on a Layover from Okinawa to Travis AFB in California. Looked Nice from the top of the airport terminal building......
