  1. More work on the roll-cage, (for those of you who know, the Microwave Experiment was kinda a bust. LOL) Made some holes (recesses) into the tub for the roll-cage to mount into. The Right side bars have to center over the frame-rails below. Left side are nearer the door opening. Made a fixture for locating the holes over the right side frame-rails ,left side corners, and a simple depth guide so I didn't punch through too far. ( 0.040 thick Evergreen sheet and a length of 0.125 tubing to set the depth) Here are all the location holes (cage mounting points are offset to the left on this car). Added this bar to the Hoop, attached to it will be a headrest and harnesses. Does anyone Know what year rules added forward roll-cage bars? I mean ahead of the roll hoop. ( I'm guessing '68) Reason I ask is the photos I've collected for this car show at least five different evolutions, most not dated.
  2. Lee, thanx for that. Fascinating videos, learned a lot from those. Daniel, will be following your project. What a cool FED.
  3. Well, looks like this is not any kind of silver bullet. Did some test today and results were not that great. Too long in the micro and some rods became slightly wavy. Not much consistency with how each rod reacted. I guess the only real advantage was I was able to make a 90 degree bend without snapping it or burning my fingers. I did get a good start on the roll cage tho, with a this pile of rejects.
  4. Tom, I'm not saying it works 100% yet. I'm just trying something different and trying to have a discussion about it. Going to do some more tests to see what can be done.
  5. Well that's another way completely. I am talking about Styrene. I'm strange cause I try to stick to it as a medium. BTW, I totally understand there are different ways to do this. Just experimenting and trying new (to me) different ways.
  6. BTW my microwave is relatively low power, so creep up on your tests.
  7. Yah, I've got some crazy random exhaust pipes to build for my Mustang project.
  8. Was not that soft, but warmish, rod was still straight and not distorted in any way. Like I said, will experiment more with this. Give it a try, perhaps it may take a couple of trips to the Micro to get the bends just right.
  9. While working on my A/FX Mustang project I thought, Hmm. How can I get heat evenly into the .08 evergreen rod that I'm using for the roll-cage. I mocked up the roll-cage w/soft craft wire, then transferred them to paper. Now was time to try to get the bends in the right places and angles. I've done cold bends as well as using a heat source (candle, soldering iron) usually got a pinched off looking result or a burnt Flambé. Soo, what the heck. I tried putting a short piece of Evergreen in the Micro for 3.5 minutes and tried putting some bends into it using a small rod as a sort of arbor. Pleased with the results so far but will have to experiment more with this. Have any of you tried this? Yah, weird but thats how I think.
  10. Theres really no dashboard, just a flat panel.
  11. thanx all. Today, had to sleep in after watching the F1 qualifying. Oh come on Red team!!! LOL Anyway flipped her over to start up on the roll cage. This is just preliminary mock-up using soft wire. Pics I have seem to show that it was quite simple and mostly centered over the driver. So offset to the Left. These pieces of wire (shapes) will have to be carefully transferred to paper and then further refined. Don't have to tell you all how tedious this is cause I'm sure you all know already.
  12. Oh, to all of you who have responded to this thread. I want to thank you for not only your input and perseverance for a really drawn out build. But mostly for being part of this Forum. Funny thing is I don't Know much about the details of these old school drag cars. Actually building this has been a fun sort of learning experience. Lots of research and discoverys of yet new ideas for things to build (never ending list).
  13. I really wanted wanted to like this new Vette. But the new trend of shoving the wheels to the front and back just make for a blunt and not graceful profile. Oh and those designers most have been playing Pin The Tail On The Donkey with that rear quarter panel inlet. Just my opinion.
  14. now in my new home and model building room mostly set up, couldn't wait to get back into this build. Had to make some shock absorbers and mounting points for them. Cross-members are all done and are just tacked in for mock-up. Think they will have to be glued in after paint to make things easier. Shocks were very fiddly, glad to have that done. Can now move on, still plenty to do.
  15. williams brothers model products make r.c. aircraft wheels up to 6-1/2" The golden age wheels might work. http://www.wmbros.com/store/c30/Golden_Age_Wheels.html
  16. Looking good Dennis, glad to see you started this project. Here is a link to an old magazine article I just discovered last week about Holman & Moody Mustangs. http://wildaboutcarsonline.com/members/AardvarkPublisherAttachments/9990472262350/1965-04SS_AFXMustang_buildTech_1-6.pdf Oh, dang just realized its the same article Ron posted
  17. I hope to get back on this build, currently my hobby stuff is all boxed up waiting for the purchase of a new home. Long story...should have happened months ago. Some times you just have to be patient, housing market is crazy here right now. So... Got my fingers double crossed that this deal works out. If it does I will have a really nice space to work in.
  18. Was that the same band who did "Men In Black" ? Here is one from a band I have many albums from. (If you are familiar with Ozric Tentacles you know what I mean.) I had the luck to see them play in Arizona, Mind melting show it was.
  19. Wow, thats rough. For me. Waiting for the owner of the new house Im going to purchase to get his job transfer so I can move in. It's a week late and meantime all my modeling stuff has been boxed up for what seems like forever. Aargh!
  20. All I came up with in my search.
  21. Just came across this image on the H.A.M.B., looks like it would be an interesting build for brave Chrysler fans (the interior details with gold/purple/white are awesome).
  22. This band is a whole lot fun, Saw them play many times. You can expect to see an all girls only beer belly contest, have fried chicken from a box thrown out into the audience and lots of surfy rockabilly songs about cars and gasoline
  23. Glad you like it, always been a fan of John Zorn. When I saw him play it was one of a seres of concerts for the University of Minnesota alumni. It was interesting to see the "blue-hairs" reaction to his performance. Here is a nice rooftop view from TORTOISE, provocateurs from Chi-Town.
  24. Casey, OK that link is to a thread I started. yet being the FORD freak I am, just pondering the lineage of this old kit. I spent some time away from car model building so some of these old kits slipped past me. Yes it would be a nice reissue, especially as the funny car version.
