Standard stuff around here! We have an organization called AMVIC - Alberta Motor Vehicle Industry Council. Every dealership, repair shop, sales person, business office person...all must have an AMVIC license. There are definite rules about selling vehicles. These range from how a dealership can markwet and advertise a vehicle, to the inspections that must be completed, documented, and signed off on by the customer. Failure to comply results in massive fines and penalties. I'm in the industry, and I agree with the program. Helps to reduce the number of shady backyard mechanics and those grubby used car lots. In your example above, if that had happened here, the delaership owuld have had to complete a the highly involved AMVIC inspection and would have had to show the inspection to the customer at the time of delivery. The customer must sign off on the inspection, indicating that they have seen it and are aware of any issues. The delaership wouldn;t have been obliged to make the repairs, but are obligated to inform the customer of all issues. If consumers feel they have been ripped off or taken advantage of, they can contact AMVIC, who will open an investigation. If found guilty, I've seen delaerships lose their business license and face huge fines. Salespeople or mechanics can lose their license, meanign they can no longer work in this province, plus they face monetary fines. ANd in some cases, it becomes a legal matter. Consumer protection.

Wow. I really like how this is turning out!

I think this is turning out great! If you decide the cast this and make these available for purchase, mark me down for one!

One thing I've noticed in general, is that people will always complain about poor service, poor product quality, poor experiences; but rarely discuss positive experiences freely. Go to a restaurant and have a bad server? Peopel are all over google reviews or Yelp or facebook complaining. Go to a restaurant and have excellent service? Crickets. What I've noticed is that if one person complains, inevitably another will too. Then the first person responds to their new friend, and they get each other worked up in this ball of negativity. Happens around here too. Probably why I ignore most of my social media feeds. And why people think I'm stand off-ish. That negativity starts up and I just leave. I don't have time for that nonsense.

So agreeing with a previous post, saying I personally don't like it, and then saying I understand why others do like it is now considered being negative? Please. -

I'll be honest, as much as I liked your Pagani build, I'm way more interested in this one! -
WW III, the war on plastic.
iamsuperdan replied to HotRodaSaurus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So the plastic used by Revell or Tamiya or any of the other model companies...is it virgin plastic or recycled? I would think a switch to recycled plastic would be a good thing. And I have to think that by now, at least one of the model companies would have looked in to this. -

Yup, different strokes and all that. This kit couldn't interest me less. But I get the appeal for others. -
WW III, the war on plastic.
iamsuperdan replied to HotRodaSaurus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Very familiar with the "banning" of plastics, and never really thought about how this might affect our hobby. I would think for the foreseeable future we'll be fine. Plastic exists, and isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Be it hosehold appliances, cars, or plastic models, things will continue to be plastic for a long time. As for trash island, just google "plastic island." It exists, and it's gross. -
Found a couple at a semi-local hobby store. And they do unadvertised flash sales, so these were significantly discounted, which is always a nice surprise.

I made this observation before in the Irked thread. It irks me.

Not a surprise to me. FCA have exactly one car platform; the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Dodge Challenger. They dumped the rest of their cars a few years ago. They just didn't do a big announcement like Ford did. Ford is only going to have the Mustang, and a couple of Lincolns. I wonder how long the Lincolns will last though. GM is still rocking the car lineup, and will do for the foreseeable future. Chev Camaro, Corvette, a few Buicks, a couple of Cadillacs, all continuing on. But, they have dumped and simplified the lineup, so it will be interesting to see what happens. I think the domestics just can't compete with the imports, either Asian or European. Although domestic cars are better now than they've ever been, they just don't stack up in terms of features, reliability, value, etc. And the garbage that was built a few years ago has given them a reputation for building garbage. I think that's why a car like the Dodge Dart failed. It was a surprisingly good car, dare I say it...a competitor. but people saw it as the new Neon, and thus, it was treated as such.

Truck-a-thon 2019
iamsuperdan replied to landman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I didn't even get my 2018 TAT entry out of the boxes. I did complete 2017 though. I'm in for 2019, if it's a go. -
Getting started needing help
iamsuperdan replied to Musclec@rs's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Welcome! Personally, I ignore colour guides in my kits, as quite often, they aren't accurate. I usually google image search my subject matter. I gather as many detailed pics as I can and match my kits up from there. For example, if I google "1968 Shelby Mustang engine" these are my first two results. Are they factory accurate? I don't know, but they are similar and represent actual cars. And would give me the colour schemes I'd be after. -
I agree with you, the grey one is my fav of the bunch. Steelies on a 911. Have never seen that, and I kinda dig it! I think the Gulf Blue Turbo is a close second though. I'm digging the raked stance.

That Super Bee is fantastic. Just the perfect amount of weathering. And your diorama...excellent! Outdoor shots, especially with the right backdrop just add so much more realism. And you've nailed that.
-
I would think to get a really accurate colour, nail polish and an air brush might be the best solution. If you have access to an airbrush that is. I'd be willing to be there a lot more shades of metallic or pearl pink in nail polish than there are in model paints.

Yup, been through this for sure. In Canada anyway, it is totally legal to hook up lights and sirens in your car. Wig-wag headlight flashers, strobes, a siren, PA system...all legal to have installed. Now, if you choose to turn on blue and red lights while driving, that's another story all together! I would not recommend that. Myself, I would probably hook all the lights up, so that when I rolled into a car show with a pristine sleep cop car, I can turn on the lightshow.

Estate Planning - all those models in the basement
iamsuperdan replied to <profile removed>'s topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I'm in the same boat with the guitars I have. There's a saying I heard that applies here. I'll paraphrase. "When I die, I hope my wife doesn't sell my collection for what I told her I paid." -
So at work we do a lot of SUVs and truck for companies needing an HSE vehicle. Because we do so many of them, on occasion, we build one to spec as an inventory that we can show other clients. In 2016 I built up a new Ford Expedition SSV. SSV stands for special services vehicle. That's right, we built up a cop spec SUV. Added a light bar to the roof, Setina front grille guard with additional lighting, corner strobes, mirror strobes, and traffic direction lights. All the lights were amber and white. In the interior we had a console installed with radio and lighting controls, plus added a partition and drawer system in the rear to carry first aid equipment, fire extinguishers, etc. I enjoyed driving this thing around. My drives home were the quickest they've ever been, as everyone moved out of the way. We've since done a couple of cop spec Tahoes, and two of the Ford SUV Interceptors. I like driving the stealthy cars.

If you google playmate cars, you'll find pics and articles. If I remember correctly, each year, Playboy would provide the playmate of the year with a car. There's some pretty wild vehicles, and some pretty bland ones too.

If you stopped watching actors who had views and opinions contrary to your own, you'd never see a movie or tv show again.

I liked the Jack Reacher movies. Had no issues with Tom's performances.
