  1. I pre assembled much of the kit. The entire chassis. body panel, roll cage and it's all in the paint booth drying right now. The fit is incredible. There are no mold lines on the body what so ever. The only seams visible are where you add in other pieces to the body, just like on the real car. The only seams I filled in are where the NACA ducts over the rear wheels are. I blended those into the fenders. Other than that, I just sanded the body and primed it. I'll post up some pics of the painted parts shortly, but for now, a quick mock up of what it was before heading to the booth.
  2. Looking really good Tom. I like that green.
  3. Retail in Canada is around $80, which for a new Tamiya kit is pretty common, if I remember right the Red Bull F1 car from a few years back was something like $97 retail, hence the reason I order most of my Tamiya kits from HK/Japan, even with shipping and any exchange alot of the time the price is almost half. Well...quick review....I got mine yesterday and it's fantastic. If you like race cars, GT cars in particular than this kit is a must have. No it doesnt have an engine but other than that it has pretty much everything else needed to make a perfect model of this car. The only other details missing...and they're small, are some templated CF decals for the center console, the door skins and the underside of the rear wing...the top half and endplates have CF but they didnt do the underside??. The only other decals I would of like to have seen added would be some tire decals, there are none, but I'm sure that was a licencing issue, just like the new NASCAR kits. Fitment on this kit is top notch, as is expected from Tamiya, and they dont disappoint. The front and rear bumpers have locating tabs which line up with depressions on the inside of the body to help with alignment. A small dab of Tamiya Extra Thin Cement and these parts are locked into place quickly and with no mess on the body surface. Other body elements that need to be added have their seams hidden in such as way that there is little to no sanding needed to ensure a perfect fit. The only area, for me, that I had to fill and sand were the NACA ducts over the rear wheels for the brakes. I had a couple of tiny gaps on each side that needed to be filled and blended. In short...I'm happy. So much so that my second one is due to arrive in the next few days (tomorrow likely) and I plan on ordering at least two more for sure. Gravity Colors has just released several new paint colours for this car and Zero Paints has some as well. Apparently Hobby Design has some decals in the works, Linkin Park for sure, could be more. And with the number of these cars being run globally I'm sure more will follow, quickly. I didnt take any pics of the parts trees....was too excited and jumped right into it, so when my second kit arrives I'll post some pics of the trees, unless someone beats me to it.
  4. Eye Shadow. You can just rub it on with an applicator. They have metallics too which you can use to stain exhausts pipes.
  5. Just got this in today, and with three days in a row off, I'm going to jump on this right away. This one's going to be OOB with the exception of some tire decals and probably some CF decals pending on my mood. Paint will likely just be a metallic grey, I've got a few to choose from so it wont be the 'correct' grey Mercedes did the car in. So, time to crack it open and jump right in while I Youtube the 24hr of the Nurburgring in the background.
  6. Mail Call!!! Just arrived. New Tamiya AMG GT3...awesome...and some supplies. Sanding sponges and some tape. Three days off.....hmmmm whatever shall I do with my time?????
  7. Nice, I'm gonna have to try and find some. More paint never hurts.
  8. Nice build. I approve of any Shelby tho. If you're interested in wheels that look more like your reference photo, Plamoz has just released these I just got a set for a '67 GT500 I'm doing and they're gorgeous. You wont be disappointed.
  9. I honestly cant remember every seeing a resin body kit for one of these, but that doesnt mean there isnt one out there somewhere. If there is, its likely rare, and expensive. The only one that I can think of was a resin kit to do the 300zx that raced at Daytona in IMSA in '87? the Exxon car. But again, rare and likely expensive. I do love this car tho, and arguably the best car commercial, ever...
  10. Im stalled atm. I work weekends, Monday, Tuesday are my days off so I'll get going tomorrow. Plus, unlike your weekend, it's really warm and sunny here so I'm getting what I hope to be my last weekend of yard work done. Suppose to be rainy the rest of the week here so I'll have lots of build time after today.
  11. Nice Tom, this thing's looking really cool. Cant wait to see what comes next.
  12. My vote's in. Originally I wanted Pro-touring but now I'm thinking I like the Inliners theme. What's the planed start date for the 2018 version?
  13. I didnt know about the ScaleAuto R8 or Lambo GT3, that's good news. Let's just hope they get them out. I think they announced the the 991 GT3 in early 2015 to be released by end of year and I still dont think its out in 1/24. And Porsche has moved off that car as its GTE/LM car for the new mid-engine version. But if the do produce the R8 and Lambo then I'll be scooping those up. A Revell R8 and a Aoshima Hurrican for the chassis/motors and interiors and your off to the races. Still havent seen a Ferrari 488 yet, I think Carrera is doing one in 1/24 but havent checked lately to see if it's been released. I've seen the Ford GT and it looks amazing, just wish they'd offer the body up in plain white, $100 for the slot car dressed up is alot of money to not do anything with it cause it doesnt need to be redone, they're that nice looking.
  14. Spent some time today filling in the missing areas of the wrap. After a trip to Michael's, I came home with these And after a few hours of work, as well as some Vallejo black, I'm sitting here Still more minor touch ups to go. As well as some more small decals but overall I'm pretty happy with were I'm at right now. Thanks for looking in, More tomorrow.
  15. Got my chassis assembled. Time to prime and paint it. Then I can detail paint and start assembly.
  16. I had issue too. I got one of these in the stash to build as a restomod/proturing one day. This was the pic I found I like the best.
  17. Bulk of the decals are done. There are some fitment issues. I have a few areas I'll have to figure out how to extend. I did buy another set of decals, just incase but I'm going to try and figure something else out first before cutting up a second set. For now, the nearly completed body. I still have to do the wing and mirrors. Hopefully I'll get some time later today for those parts. More later tonight.
  18. Got my kit in from Dave today. 1987 ASA Champ #52 SAI Lane Automotive Camaro Will build this one OOB, mostly since I cant find too many reference pics of cars from this era. A few exterior shots but nothing really for the interior so I'll add a few details. Looking forward to the progress of others. Thanks Dave.
  19. After a few hectic weeks around here, I finally got some time, and interest in sitting back down at the bench and working on this. Body was painted white and decaling has begun. Slow going but its a start. They dont line up 100% so I'm going to have to figure out how to fill in the blanks. Roof. And a side... For the most part, they line up OK, but over the rear wheel you can see how short they are. I've got the bulk of the body decals done, now, just need to take some more pics. More later tonight. Thanks for looking in.
  20. I didn't know that. That makes sense then. The price gap is still huge tho. It's almost double getting it from a Canadian vendor over what it will be from Japan.
  21. GT CARS....more GT CARS. With the release of the AMG GT from Tamiya and the BMW M6 from NuNu at the end of this year, I'm hoping for more in 2018. With the Acura NSX GT3's first season complete and unarguably a huge success, finishing 4th over all in the manufacturers championship, I'd love to see a GT racer version of this car. Aston Martin is set to release their new GT racer soon and hopefully someone will do a kit of it. Would still love to see a new Audi R8 GTLM car as well. And a McLaren 650 GT3 as well, surprised Fujimi didnt jump on that after the MP4-12C. And Aoshima doing the Hurrican but no GT version. Maybe in 2018. I know it probably wont happen, but some kits of the new DPI cars would be nice too, but the market just wouldnt be there. Trucks....other than the Raptor from 2015 (2017 ones a joke other than the body) I'd like to see Revell or Round 2 put out some modern pick ups. I live in the country and every third vehicle that goes by my house is a pick up. Some newer SUV's would be nice too, like the newer Explorer...lots of police departments using them and the Tahoe's. Most of the older cars I like have been kited already so I wouldnt trip over myself wanting anything older. Tho most of you guys seem to want that...different strokes.
  22. Nice. Love the Woodys. I'm sat at the airport all weekend and was just sent to Customs this morning. Should clear today and then be sent on to the local distribution center later today. Fingers crossed I should have it in tomorrows mail. And I've got tomorrow and Wednesday off....a chance to start yet another new project.
  23. Unbelievably, a Canadian vendor had these in stock this past weekend. I was astounded as generally, we get things so much later than the US. He only had two and sold both. I bought one of them, for more than I would of paid from Japan, but I'm an impulse buyer and had to have it. I'm hoping it arrives by the end of the week. Amazingly HLJ still had it showing as being release around 11/30 which seems odd that it made it to Canada first.
  24. Glad it arrived safely Dave. And looking forward to what you do with it. Mine from you is sitting in Customs at the airport it looks like, so pending on if it gets processed today I could have it as early as tomorrow, but will likely be Tuesday.
  25. Made a US run today. Picked up a couple parcels at my sister's and hit up Hobby Lobby. The shelves were pretty bare. Most of the kits they had, they only had one of. Vallejo paints were the same. One of each that they did have in stock. Starting to wonder if maybe this location is closing up? Anyways, AMT Goodyear tire pack from Ebay. AMT Camaro and some Vallejo paints and a fresh bottle of Tamiya cement from Hobby Lobby. The Camaro is a really nice kit. Now, Revell, time to counter with a new Mustang.
