  1. Hey Bruce, I got to DDVH all the time. They have lots of supplies, their kit stock has dropped off abit over the last couple years and they've cut back a lot on their diecast stock too. But as far as supplies go, they have a lot. Also, if you need photo etch/carbon decals etc, just call them and ask if they can get it. They'll order it in and then call you when it arrives. The only "bad" part is that its abit of a drive, for you and me as well, but well worth it. I'm heading there on Monday to restock some items for myself. David
  2. yes, snap kits are easy builds, mostly to get kids into the hobby less parts and usually abit more durable so kids can play with them. and yes, there are some nice ones out there, especially the new Revell ones. now if Revell would take all those nice snap kits and do full kits, a lot of people would be really happy.
  3. All of the above. I use cans for primer, simply because I can buy Walmart's cheap primer for about $4 a can and its as good as any prethinned airbrush paint. Dries fast and smooth. But when it comes to a factory paint colour, unless its brand new or a really popular colour you pretty much have to go with airbrush paints. I also hand paint almost all my small parts, even interior parts. I find airbrushing or spraying from a can gives them a very uniformed look on the surface and most vehicles don't have that type of look with all the different materials used on an interior. So I'd say Im about 33% can/airbrush/hand painting. David
  4. Small update. Unfortunately things went sideways.....fast. I was using the decals from the Jack Reacher Chevelle from AMT. Even though it was a new kit I just bought a couple of months ago and the decal sheet looked perfect they were very brittle. I tried the black stripes first and the first stripe just fractured in the water as I tried to remove it. So I switched to the white stripes and being extra careful, I managed to get all the decals in place, except the last one, just reverted back to cosmic dust on me. So I had to try and remove the ones already on, and of course I marred the paint. I tried buffing it out and retouching the paint and it just kept getting worse. So, I gave up and just stripped the paint. I'm now in the middle of redoing the primer. Either I have to leave it plan or try to find another set of decals. I'd prefer the stripes, but I'll have to get lucky and see if someone has an extra set or can scan a set for me and I'll try to print them out myself. David
  5. Nice work everyone. Small update for me, haven't been working much on the Raptor but the parts I wanted are in, so time to scratch up the rest or modify what I have. Modified the hood for what's underneath and thinking about adding some extra lighting. And starting to make room under the hood. Jeremy from Clearly Scale says that this monstercharged 351 DOHC will put out 800ish horses, should be enough to keep this beast ahead of the Auzzie cops. Looking forward to more updates from you guys. David
  6. Is this scratch built or a kit? Any details would be appreciated. the new Battlestar Galactica was one of my favourite shows. David
  7. cool, thanks very much. I did not get that sheet with my order. David
  8. Thanks for posting, I just bought one of Ebay.....takes forever for Canadian vendors to get new releases usually. Doesn't look too bad at all. I wouldn't hold your breath....I was really hoping for a full detail 2015/2017 Raptor trucks, there's been no real new truck kits for ages, other than the Meng Ford. Doesn't look like they're going to do either of the Raptors or the 2016 Mustang for that matter. I guess they want to get "new" people into the hobby by appealing to the kids, but Revell doesn't seem to realize, most kids get into the hobby cause their dads and uncles build and get them hooked. Revell should be appealing to us as well and I think they're missing the mark with easy snap kits and pre-decorated BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH. My opinion, I know others will disagree, that's cool. All that said, I'm still getting one as the Ford GT's have always been one of my favourite cars, and since I doubt we'll see a full kit anytime soon, gotta have atleast one. Here's another article I found on the new kit http://blog.caranddriver.com/ford-gt-first-build-we-assemble-and-review-one-of-the-first-2017-gt-supercars/ David
  9. Can you scan and post the instructions with the a arms please, mine didn't have anything. I'd like to see them. Thanks David
  10. Nice start Steve. I've got one of these I started along time ago that needs attention. I just picked up the upper A arms and headers from HRM too recently, how's the fit? I'll be watching this one. David
  11. New start. Going to be mostly OOB with a few additions. Rally stripes from a Chevelle SS kit. Redline tires from the parts bin with RB Motion's valve stems for the rally wheels. Detail master distributor. Spark plug and distributor boots from RB Motion. Mock up Cowl Induction hood for abit more of an aggressive look. And blocked up the rear suspension abit to lift the back up some more from stock. Colour on. Scale Finishes Chevrolet Mulsanne Blue. Overspray on the chassis, not sure how original that is, all the pics I found on line showed black chassis but most of those cars were all restored, but I'm going with the overspray look just because I've never tried it before. Chassis need to be masked and I'm going to paint the gas tank and front frame rails black later on today. Comment and Criticisms welcome. David
  12. I ordered mine too. Chris is going to be at NNL East this year. I forsee a lot of the cash I'm bring going into his pocket. David
  13. yes you need a fan, to extract the fumes. otherwise they just sit in your room. if you're spraying in an enclosed space you absolutely should wear a respirator. Not a fabric mask you want one that industrial painters use. they're an added expense yes, but well worth it.
  14. Ok, I booked a hotel, though, it isn't the Ramada, it was booked up. I am heading down early Friday morning. My plan is to go to Philly to Simeone for a few hours to check out their vintage racers, especially the Daytona Coupe and GT40 since I've never seen either of them in person. After a few hours there, I'll head up to NJ in time for the 6pm event at the Ramada. If there is anyone in the Niagara region or western NY and you need a ride I have space. Feel free to chip in for gas. Bring your own snacks and music on a usb stick if you like. PM me if you would like to join me for the trip. If not, looking forward to meeting those that are attending this year. Forgot to add, my hotel room is a double so can split the cost with someone if you need a room. David
  15. Read my post up above with the pics of the Firebird's '68 GT500 decals. Its the closest I've found to the SP decals. You cant order the Eleanor decals and photo etch from SP, I tried before they reissued the TK. David
  16. Cool project...I like it. I'll be watching this one. David
  17. I too praise Greg's work. I picked up one of his Eleanor bodies last year and it is definitely a great value. As far as sourcing out the missing items to complete the TK I have a list that can hopefully narrow it down for people interested. Decals- Firebird decals has a set of '68 GT500 decals http://firebird-designs.ecrater.com/p/16399343/1967-shelby-gt-350-ford-mustang-decal?keywords=mustang these are the '67 GT350 ones but he does have the 500's I have a set. ( I'll post a pic once I find my camera batteries.......everything hides when you're cleaning) Sorry for the blurry pics, camera just isn't that good. Door Handles- Scale Productions has these http://www.scaleproduction.de/product_info.php?info=p2181_2-door-handles.html I just ordered a couple sets...very nicely casted in white metal. Tires- Scale Productions again http://www.scaleproduction.de/product_info.php?info=p1817_17--tires-tread.html these are the same tires that are now in the just released SP TK for their Eleanor. Much closer looking to the Goodyear F1's on the real Eleanor. Wiper Blades- Detail Master. The body has the molded ones from the stock AMT Mustang kit, but I think the PE ones look much better. Knock-offs- Detail Master again... http://www.detailmaster.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Session_ID=5f9c112ccd8c84e71bd17db473869f95&Screen=PROD&Store_Code=detailmaster&Product_Code=DM-2290&Category_Code=DM-PhotoEtchedParts They have 2 sets to pick from. Front grill- You can get this from Model Car Garage https://www.modelcargarage.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=135&idcategory=21 the grill isn't 100% correct and it only has the top one. But it has a lot of other details that can be used on an Eleanor. Tho, you'll likely have to scratch build the grills. I haven't as of yet sourced out how I am going to do mine. Cobra air cleaner and valve covers....I'm pretty sure I got mine from a AMT '68 Shelby kit....or from one of the RM Cobra kits. There are more than one kit that has these. There are more items you can source out too pending on how detailed you want to get. But the above items will get you basically what's in the SP TK. Feel free to add any other sources you might think would be helpful. David
  18. Mail man just dropped off these. HRM Ford GT 40 MKI engine TK Scale Productions "Eleanor" TK Now that my flu is gone, maybe I can start cleaning up some projects. David
  19. Nice, Got more info on the wheels/tires? I just ordered some for my Raptor, but I like the looks of yours a lot. David PS....what kit is the SuperBike in the back? I've been looking for something like that for a build I got coming up later this year.
  20. Thanks Rob. Right back at ya, items shipped on the same day and arrived to each other on the same day...hard to believe with Canada Customs. Perfect item, wrapped up well, thanks Rob.
  21. Try Vallejo acrylics. They leave virtually no brush stokes at all unless the surface is really smooth. I've started using them on interiors and engines and you pretty much cant tell they were brushed on. Also the black surface primer works well brushed on too and sprays nicely leaving a good looking matte black finish. Hope this helps abit. David
  22. personally I've never used oven cleaner but SuperClean works great and Isopropyl alcohol works great too on TS spray paints. I wouldn't use IPA on resin parts tho, SuperClean wont hurt resin. Nice work on the Audi so far. It was really nice of Tamiya to offer the builders back their works. Looking forward to more, your projects always look amazing when done. David
  23. Wondering if anyone has used these http://hgwmodels.cz/en/seatbelts/62-sparco-6-point-blue-seatbelts-124-124004.html I just picked up a set for a project and I've never used them before. They're suppose to be some sort of micro fabric and but it feels like paper to me. I've not been able to find a review or "how to" with these belts, found one for one of the airplane sets but the micro fabric looks different on that set than the one I picked up. So if anyone has any experience with this product, please post some pics if you got them. Thanks David
  24. Detail is amazing for a 40yr old kit. Lots of bolt head details on the interior/exterior parts. For the age the decals look really good. The only real issues I see so far are the glass on mine is abit scratched as it wasn't wrapped separately and the tires, better than the MPC version still are decent but they're Firestone's and the #1 and #2 car from Shelby ran on Goodyears. I'll likely buy some more of the Goodyear blue streaks from Indycals. David
  25. Got this off Kijiji (Canada's Craig's List) last week, just arrived today Been looking for 4 of these for awhile now, 1 down, 3 to go.
