Pete 359 tanker with trailer
leafsprings replied to Jürgen M.'s topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Very nice, the tanker is a big improvement over the previous camper. Any plans for a pup tanker trailer? -
1963 Ford F100
leafsprings replied to Chuck Most's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Great job on rack, much more functional as a work truck now! Curious on how you did the side moldings so nice, seems like a very difficult task, is it possible to share with us the process? -

International V190 Quarry Dump
leafsprings replied to Warren D's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
The cab looks to be a Frontier Resin piece which usually require some fender reshaping. Nice to see this one being built, should be a great match with the dump body. -

Interesting subject matter, nice fabrication work! -
Finally purchased my first '63, many great improvements, much better than the original. That said, as I said early, the unibody always had limitations, can not be expanded into anything other than a unibody style without serious surgery. Back in the day, let's say 1968, the "Kats" could have spent some coin and reworked the cab to give us a Flareside body (the already done '53 bed) or separate Styleside body (the already done '60 bed), but they didn't, just a few nick nacks added to the same old unibody design. This is main reason I purchase 4 new '60 F 100 kits, very adaptable, can be built in many different variations. Wonder what the sales numbers are for the '63 kits vs. the '60 kits? Any insiders know the numbers yet?

Chevrolet Road Tractor
leafsprings replied to DRIPTROIT 71's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Nice progress on this Heavy Chevy! Glad to see another medium-heavy being built! Maybe a Cat V8 diesel could have been retrofitted after the original 427 blew. -
West coast Freightliner
leafsprings replied to leafsprings's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
The west coast freightliner has been sold to D and C trucking of Dubuque Iowa, now hauling livestock for Bixby in Leon Iowa. -
I believe you have the biggest collection of super detailed 1/32 trucks and trailers in the world, incredible effort to get those results!

Brockway 260 Dump
leafsprings replied to Warren D's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Nice conversion to an old heavy duty workhorse. Like the sharp contrasts in paint scheme and green interior color. -
White Road Commander 2
leafsprings replied to DRIPTROIT 71's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Great looking build, the KFS cab looks very high quality, accessories and paint scheme graphics look period correct. Cast spoke rear and Budd fronts are becoming contagious around here, have to try it sometime. -
1966 Peterbilt Unilite 352 COE
leafsprings replied to RoninUtah's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Always to forward to your vintage tractor trailer builds, they truly capture the golden age of trucking. Excellent work on the backdating to the earlier design, something I could never accomplish. Great choice on paint scheme and wheels, together, they really give this tractor a vintage look. -
Not Another Freightliner
leafsprings replied to Rockford's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
All previous comments are spot on, couldn't agree more, outstanding job again on these 1/32 kits, much nicer to look at than 1/25 versions! -
An older GMC conversion that is almost entirely made up of aftermarket pieces, unfortunately, most are not all still in business. Grill and hood are Modelhaus, 305 V6 engine with fender emblem and western type mirrors were from Rookie Resin. Tires were from Scenes Unlimited, and flatbed is an older Herb Deeks piece. Wheels are Checkers Wreckers.

An AMT 1960 body with a Revell '64 chassis to get a correct '63 C 10. Not an easy integration, but did not want to use torsion bars on a '63. The grill and hood are resin pieces. Period western type mirrors are from Rookie Resin. Got as close as possible to original factory interior and engine colors. 16" tires and wheels are from a 40's Chevy pickup kit. Cab color is Rust oleum safety green. Bed railing is custom made and extra accessories added to get the Dept. of Forestry theme. The fleet is growing.

Caboverdose
leafsprings replied to Rockford's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Great work on this cabover, a big fan of the longer wheelbase tractors and sure this one will come out looking fantastic. Trucks were custom built to customer specifications, IMO, most of these long wheelbase cabovers were originally bought to transport oversize long pieces, so the overhang was more on the truck frame instead of rear of trailer. Others may originally had drom boxes. The WF in the photo is probably with its second or third owner, pogo stick could have easily been relocated. -
1984 GMC General “Autumn Almond”
leafsprings replied to Pete68's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Excellent work on this General. Paint scheme is perfect, great color choices, this era GMC is all about the factory paint stripes! -
Seen that one, it is a base model '67 F 250, bottom photo is the best I can find. The foam unit has the early '67 F 250 hubcap which fits early '67 16" and 17.5" wheels. These 8 lug wheels, used from 1956-1966, have inner tab hubcap rentention, never done by anyone to this date in the 1/25 hobby. It appears it has the 17.5" wheels on the front, can't make out what is on the rear. IMO, Moebius unknowingly created this "early '67 F 250 only" hubcap on the '69 F 100 kit. '67's also came with the larger F 250 cap, the cap used on the '68 F 250 kit, second photo, when ordered with the new 16.5" wheel.

Mid 60s Peterbilt Unilite COE
leafsprings replied to RoninUtah's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
An oddity on trailer box art circa mid 70's, the 352 appears to be a hybrid, older headlight system with the newer larger step. Not sure if the larger bumper was available on the older cabs. -

1/32 Freightliner cabover
leafsprings replied to Rockford's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Fantastic detail work on this Freightliner! -
I have been collecting factory literature for a while and have found it is actually quite difficult to find a good photo of a base model, most are dolled up 1/2 tons with white walls with plenty of bling. Here is an excellent photo base model '68 F 250. Painted grill, bumper and hubcaps. I built a base model '70 F 250 a few months back, by that year, aluminum grill and chrome front bumper came standard.

Mid 60s Peterbilt Unilite COE
leafsprings replied to RoninUtah's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Great subject, and good luck with the modifications. There was a resin mid 60's Pete cabover done at one time, but it is super rare. I don't have the scratch building skills to build one, hopefully they become available again.
