  1. Thanks for the info Hakan. IMO, the Ertl Transtar series of kits have the closest 1 piece type Alcoas, but they are in 22.5. The aftermarket, AFAIK, hasn't kicked in on 24.5" tires and wheels yet. Probably would be a good idea to add an oil type axle hub and drill out the rear hub covers on the rear wheels too.
  2. Good advice, if you want to build the most accurate replica, start with the closest kit, and go from there. Question, did the B.J. KW have 24.5" wheels? If, so, did any kits ever come with 24.5" wheels?
  3. Great job on the front end conversion to '63 model year, including correct black detail work on the white base model grill. The Mobius '65-'66 cab and AMT '60 beds are the best way to go on any '61-'63 4x4 conversion. Weathering is once again perfect for original paint highway dept truck getting up in years.
  4. Thanks, they do require some work, but Frontier was the one doing the subject. Hopefully we will get some high quality 3d printed '53-'57 Ford Big Jobs and '58-'60 Super Duty's in the future. Planning on moving on to the 60's F and N series offered by Dan Models in the future. Links to my earlier heavy Ford builds. The red '58 F 1000 Esso is not "under glass" yet, the tanker trailer needs some more work.
  5. IMO, Ford knew about the limitations of the uni-body design ( Ranchero concept taken one step further ) which is why the body was never used on '61-'63 F 350 pickups and '61-'63 F100-F 250 4x4's from the get go. Strength of the frames were not the issue. Ford touted there early '60's pickups in ad campaigns "Built like the big trucks". Ford, however, did like to get more out of there tooling by extending the use of older sheet metal and older engines to the South American market well into the 70's.
  6. The FE large block was first introduced in 1958 in the car line. Why Ford waited until 1965 to install the FE in pickups as a regular option ( lower compression version) will always be an automotive mystery. We can only speculate that the market wasn't there in the late 50's-early 60's for a high performance pickup, but, maybe Ford might have installed a few 352's by special order.
  7. I used the Frontier Resin Big Job as a starting point, it does need some tweaking and massaging, but, easier than starting with a cab only. Would like to see a higher end 3d printed '57-'60 extra heavy duty in the future though. The ALF body would speed things up too for a pumper.
  8. Great build and great gift! Very accurate representation of a base model '63 stepside, grill looks perfect!
  9. Frontier Resin 1957 Ford F 900 Big Job. Used the 534 V8 and Allison automatic from AMT C 900 kit, frame and suspension donated from AMT Mack R688 and IMC Dodge L 700. Garwood dump was a AITM piece. U.S. Dept of Forestry.
  10. Super clean build and fantastic paint scheme, excellent representation of 70's cabover that was the pride and joy of the owner operator!
  11. Great choice for a classic truck build and appears to be a very nice resin piece. Great job on this important chapter of trucking history!
  12. Beautiful job from start to finish, you have done more than enough justice to this old AMT snap kit that was never meant to be this good! The accuracy of details on Sonny's KW is spot on, your endless research has really paid off. The tractor trailer combo is awesome, looks like official screen shots from season 1.
  13. That has been the norm for decades, but, it beginning to change, especially in 3d printing world. The 1 1/2 ton in this thread is an old heavy resin piece done in the early 90's and later offered by AITM. Since then Dan Models of Romania has offered a very nice '62 Ford 1 1/2 ton highly detailed resin piece, often sells on ebay. Ford F700 1/25 scale - Cab Kit | eBay There is also a 3d file available for printing a 1 1/2 ton from Roman. Ford F-Series F-600 Grain Truck 1963 3D Model by DriverUA (renderhub.com)
  14. It appears the files can be purchased for your 3d printer from Roman. Ford F-800 Truck Chassis 1980 3D Model by DriverUA (renderhub.com)
  15. You're getting very close to the finish line, excellent detail work!
  16. Looks great, tu tones were very popular choice in the 60's. '63 Custom Cabs without the moldings used a chrome plate under the outside door handles. A great item for the aftermarket resin people to offer?
  17. Excellent looking build. Detail work is fantastic. These era Ford's look great as a 3/4 ton 4x4 with tu tone paint jobs, Thanks again also to Moebius for finally covering this era, the kats at AMT and the MPC people really blew it when they had the chance back in the day. Great choice on period aftermarket 16.5 wheels and tires, very popular look back in the day.
  18. Thanks again Hakan for more info on the subject. About the series, the producers had to juice up the typical lives of owner operators to get the viewers., so low and behold, they became bogged down in drama in every location instead of movin on down the road making money like most independents. I read somewhere the producers had to lighten up the storylines for season 2. IMO, it was the last couple of episodes of season 2 that killed the series, Sonny became a race car driver, then a deep sea diver and then a country western singer.

  20. These are the engine choices for both '60 and '63. IMO, the '60 Chevy six is a good donor to start with, add an oil filter, move the distributor more to the front, oil pan re shaping with putty and sand then top of the valve cover smooth. The '63 Nova six, shown below, would be even closer engine to start with if you have the extra dough. Chevy Inline 6 "Turbo Thrift" model engine resin 3D printed 1:24-1:8 scale | eBay '
  21. The grill looks great, big improvement!
  22. Great weathering and load on this ex. company workhorse.
