Strato Models - Kenworth Model 925
leafsprings replied to carsntrucks4you's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I agree, it is definitely one of the best of the best. Incredible attention to details, everything looks period correct down to the tires and wheels. Excellent subject matter, a classic. One thing about Strato, everything sells out before you hear about it. I'm sure that is the case with this one also. -
Ford LN 8000 abd Tank Trailer

Great looking fleet truck, paint scheme looks sharp. The Louisville is a handsome truck, even 54 years after its intro. -

Nice build! Glad to see the red trim paint in the molding, it really stands out and hubcaps look much more realistic argent silver rather than the chrome. -
1960 Mercury M350

As usual, you have the weathering down to a science! Bravo! -
This photo shows another item we can definitely use in resin, Rockwell hubs. Probably the most common hub used on big rigs in the U.S. The Rockwell hubs on AMT's Peterbilt kits were very short on details.

Great point Hakan, a corrected 20" Alcoa wheel would be a great replacement for many AMT kits. Also true, we never got 22" Budd steel wheels from AMT. Here is an old AITM 22" Budd style lock ring wheel on a 11-22 tire, which looks so much more massive and fills the fender wells nicer than the typical smaller AMT 20" rims with 10-20 tires.

1950s-1960s Ragtop Trailer
leafsprings replied to RoninUtah's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Great collection of classic old school big rigs, not only do older tractors have so much more character and soul, the trailers of the era also have this with their tarped tops and wheel cut outs. Excellent job on all the tractors, especially like the KW and westcoaster would love to see them available again, and the cool looking trailer, all are great match ups. My signature says it best, "old trucks are the future of modeling" -
Came across it by accident, really hard to tell the difference between the original and re issues because the box art is very similar. Glad it was left pretty much unpainted, the chrome on top the grill is worn down, but other than than, has held up very well. Time to look out for the torsion bar KW's.

Thanks for the positive comments! After looking closely at the built tractor, something didn't quite look right for me. According to the Ford C series brochure, factory wheelbases are listed at 99" 111" 135" +. The AMT kit represents the 111" tractor, not the shorter 99" which I think is more appropriate for a city tractor. The wheelbase is now down to 99".

Finally found one of these early issues "Class of 69". It is molded in gray and windows and headlights have a light green tint. Modified the 10 holes ( chrome was very poor shape-turning white) to 5 holes and painted aluminum, added fresh new Pete hood emblems and an old Mercury sleeper to give it a vintage 60's look

Any new info on the Moebius '67/'68 Chevy pickups?
leafsprings replied to Can-Con's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
The AMT Blazer and GMC Jimmy's star feature was a complete separate frame. This would also be the star feature of a new Moebius Chevy pickup with coil springs on all fours for 2WD and leaf springs on all fours for 4WD versions. -
1989 Ford F350

Great job! Excellent representation of the way these pickups looked in the late 80's and early 90's, just needs a horse trailer behind it. -
Any Chance AMT Might Backdate The Dodge Van?
leafsprings replied to oldcarfan's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Sometimes we become victims of so called "progress". The automotive industry tries to improve their products for efficiency: plastics replace metal, smoother lines replace less aerodynamic designs, then the model industry follows the pattern with newer modern tooling and tosses the older tooling. We often loose the older designs we like better, modelers don't care about gas mileage efficiency. -
1972 Chevrolet C3500 Dooley

Nice dually, like the color, tires and roof lights. GM was close to getting a dually to the market for '72. -

Are the corrected '67-'72 Ford F 100 hubcaps ( which are now included with the Mercury kit ) available as a separate parts pack yet? -

Great representation of a vintage IH hauler, paint scheme and wheels are perfect. It got the job done and didn't cost IH a fortune in retooling costs! -
Gmc ASTRO and Moving Van

Very nice combo, like the vintage decals and paint scheme. Great choice for the tractor, Bekins was a big time GMC buyer! -

Moebius Wrecker Truck Announcement

Word of caution on the old MPC fire-tow truck beds, they are much too wide! The center section needs to be narrowed down before assembly. -
1970 Ford F250 4x4
leafsprings replied to bogger44's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Yeah, the '70 egg crate grill is simple, but effective. Chevy must have liked it too, used one for '71 and '72 pickups. IMO, Ford should have kept it 2 more years! -
GMC Crackerbox

Great job on this classic, like the paint scheme, weathering and wheel choice, very inspiring build! Have the day cab version, need to start it someday. -

Outstanding work on this 1/32 job, which is not the easiest thing to accomplish! Really appreciate all the fine details and the realistic stripe paint job which was found on so many of the late 70's era trucks. -
