why have new cars gotten so expensive 1:1 scale
Xingu replied to youpey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's part of the problem. If folks don't want to pay the excessive price for a car/truck, they don't lower the price, they discontinue the model (at least sometimes they do). I drive a 2011 Ford Ranger for work and I really like that truck. Perfect size for driving/parking in the DC area. Ford did away with them (in the US) and you were pretty much forced to buy a full-sized truck. Now they are going to bring them back and it looks like they are going to be quite expensive and larger (more of a mid-sized truck now). All of the GM and Ford vehicles I have purchased since the early 2000's have been with 0.0% interest from the manufacturer (including the Callaway Corvette I owned). Unfortunately, my wife likes imports which I have rarely seen offer 0.0%. I have gotten 0.9% and 1.9% on her Volvo and Nissan. I know they have a lot of money built into the price of a new vehicle, but I negotiate until I am happy with the deal. I will walk out of the dealership if needed. Generally, within a day or two I get a call to come back in and talk some more. I almost always get what I was looking for (which is a reasonable price for the vehicle) and still get them to throw in a freebie or two, even if it is only a shirt or a free tire rotation. -
Several other members had problems uploading photos that were taken in portrait layout (holding the phone vertical). The forum software didn't like the tall photos. Try uploading photos that were taken in landscape layout (holding the phone horizontal). Your phone could also be naming the photos in a peculiar fashion. Try renaming the photos and be sure to not use spaces or symbols. Hope that helps.

Most Used Paint Color?
Xingu replied to martinfan5's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hands down, the most used color is some shade of black. Almost every model that is built has something painted black. -
I also received a shipment of Splash paint. Very quick shipping. I hope to try it out in the near future and will let everyone know how I like it.

New reissue announcement from Round 2
Xingu replied to Oldcarfan27's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I moved this thread to the Kit News & Review section. Just a reminder to everyone, please check to see if there is already an active thread on the subject you are starting. -
I think he is just pointing out to the folks, that have shown interest and may be looking to buy the Grand Sport, that a new in box kit can be had cheaper if you buy the Revell version as compared to one in an Accurate Miniatures box. Just a way to save a buck or two, who doesn't like that.

The 1:1 cars have a lot of internal supports and structure. There are also a lot of different curves, bows and odd angles on the many different types of cars out there. I don't think we could afford to buy a model that also needed that structure to support the correct thickness styrene skins over the doors, hood and trunk. I am sure it could be done, but would you sell enough to make it financially feasible.

MCM T-Shirts, New Colors/Sizes
Xingu replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ordered my shirts 3/16/18 and they arrived today. These are very nice shirts and are an easy way to help support the magazine/forum. -
Robert, I started with this exact booth. A lot of good information in this thread.

Splash Paints - Website Up!
Xingu replied to Quick GMC's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
It's amazing.....there is a new choice in paint suppliers and folks bash them without knowing anything about them and without ever trying the product. Thread is locked. -
I wouldn't be so quick to blame the engineers (even though it may actually end up being them at fault). When I first saw this story, my gut told me it was corruption. No real reason why but that it what i thought. I will wait for the investigation to be concluded, but I am going to guess a few members of the construction company and a city official or two are going to prison.

Stephen Hawking has left the building...
Xingu replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
The bell curve that the world's intelligence has been graded on has taken a big hit. I was a little shocked to learn he was 76. I had thought he was in his early 60's for some reason. -
Search through the Under Glass section to see if any of the builds look like the color you want. Most folks will list what paint they used somewhere in the thread. I use MCW paint. They carry most of the old factory colors. They can put most of what they offer into spray cans. It is a good bit more expensive, but you will get the exact color you are looking for. The other drawback is that it can take 4-6 weeks to receive, after you place your order.

When buying anything online, you need to go slow and look at what is on the screen. Need to read the "fine print" and make sure there are not any boxes checked that should not be checked. Online merchants can automatically check boxes to sign you up, for who knows what, and it is your responsibility to opt-out before you click the last purchase button.

Scroll thru these and see if anything rings a bell. http://www.imcdb.org/vehicles_make-Chevrolet_model-Corvette.html There are 81 pages.

I have been designing fire sprinkler systems for about 35 years, so I spend a lot of time on construction sites. In the past 5-8 years I have been pointing out/correcting problems for other trades and even for project superintendents working for the GC. They cannot read/understand the prints. It amazes me that folks cannot think in 3D, even when they are standing on the jobsite and looking at the space they need to install their equipment. I once had to attend about a dozen design meetings for a hospital project. They were designing a high end, very powerful MRI room and were continually doing 3D modeling to ensure everything would fit. From about the 2nd meeting on, I was explaining that there physically isn't enough (height) room on this floor to install what they were proposing. At the end, when they finally thought they had everything crammed into this tiny space and were patting themselves on the back, I asked them how they were going to open the door. They had pipes and equipment run so low, on both sides, that the door would need to be less than 6'-0" tall. Project got scraped after wasting well over $100,000 and they all looked at me like I was evil.

Crosley kit thread locked?
Xingu replied to unclescott58's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I locked it. Several posts were reported as off-topic and as I read through the entire thread, I found it was more than just a few posts that were off topic. There was also an argument brewing between two longtime members here. That is why it was locked. -

What did you see on the road today?
Xingu replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As a teenager (didn't have my license yet), I wanted one of these. I remember reading an article about them that said it had very poor braking. No idea why that still sticks with me. I think I would still like one now. -
I use an Optivisor with 2X glass and the optional LED lights. A bit expensive, but much easier to use than the cheap 2.5X glasses that I tried previously.

That is something you don't see everyday, they got the tires on concrete and chocked the wheel. I would like to have that truck and two of those barrels.
