  1. I think it can be argued that a vast majority are not built to be driven on the roads at all. I feel most are built to be dropped off the trailer and parked in the show field/floor. I bet that many have never been over 30 mph. People have been building show only vehicles for decades.
  2. It must just be your area Bill. Here in the DC area, the construction industry has been going strong for many years (even through the recession of the mid 2000's). AutoCad courses fill up quickly in this area and many young folks are still getting in the trades. I don't know much about the machinist trades, but there are two small shops in the same industrial park I am in. Obviously, mechanical drafting has, for the most part, been replaced with computer aided drawing. Tools of the trade have changed, but the basic concept is still there.
  3. There are folks that have entire Fotki alnums dedicated to instructions and scans of the decals. I don't have the web address handy, but I am sure someone can post it.
  4. While I really like the look and idea behind this, I do not think I could live there. I like wide open spaces. I think they really thought this idea would take off, but it has been slow to happen. I know there are similar structures in Europe.
  5. There are things mentioned in the video that we embraced and things that we have resisted. Tract homes never went away though, they missed on that prediction. What happened to the Habitat 67 building? Is it still there?
  6. Nice. I see he had to make a few substantial corrections as well. It could have been a little quicker.
  7. Please take a moment to review the revised rules and guidelines pinned at the top of the Trading Post and Wanted sections. There are a few minor tweaks to the rules that Casey originally came up with in 2012. The big thing is we are going to start enforcing the name and location requirement for folks that post in these sections. If your name and location are not shown, your thread/post will be hidden until they are added. Moderators will send out messages asking folks to update their information.
  8. Trading Post & Wanted section rules and guidelines: 1) Your full name must be listed in your profile or signature in order to use the Trading Post or Wanted sections. You must also include your location. City and State/Province/Country is preferred. This is so all parties involved in a trade can verify who they are dealing with. If you do not have this information shown in your profile or signature, your post will be hidden from view until you correct it. Anyone caught falsifying this information is subject to punishment, up to being permanently banned from this site. 2) ALL TRADES ARE A RISK and based solely on trust, so make sure you feel comfortable with your trading partner, and confident your trade will be successfully completed. If you're not sure a potential trading partner is trustworthy, ask your fellow MCM forum members, or look through the Great Traders post, located here: http://www.modelcars...showtopic=60963 If you're not sure, err on the side of caution. Most times, your gut reaction is right, so follow your instincts. If something doesn't feel right, don't proceed with the trade. 3) Use some form of tracking to allow both you and you trading partner to find out when your packages were shipped, where they are, and when they will or have arrived. Go one step further and PM your trading partner the tracking number to keep them up to date on their package's status. When trading internationally, remember that the cost of sending a package with some form of tracking will be considerably more expensive than shipping inside your own country. 4) Good communication is important, so keep your trading partner updated and informed. If you are not able to make it to the Post Office to mail a package, let your trading partner know there will be a delay. Stuff happens in life which is more important than a model kit or two, but that's not an excuse to keep your trading partner in the dark. The vast majority of traders will be more than willing to wait an extra week or two if they are made aware of any potential delays. Communicate well and trades will go smoothly. 5) Package your items well. A bubble mailer should be used at a minimum when shipping small parts, as a business sized envelope or an old cereal box folded in two offers no protection for the items inside. Bubble mailers are cheap at Dollar Tree, Wal*Mart, USPS, UPS Stores, etc. Plenty of places sell bubble mailers and other packaging materials, so spend a little more on the mailing package to ensure your trading partner gets the items they are supposed to in undamaged condition. Packing peanuts, bubble wrap, styrofoam, old newspapers, etc.-- all are easy to find second hand, so stash a box of it somewhere, and use it to add some extra protection for the items you mail. 6) No stores near you to pick up shipping supplies? USPS delivers boxes for FREE, right to your door, and they'll even pick them up for FREE, too! If you print shipping labels online at http://www.USPS.com , you never even need to leave the house. UPS and FedEx will pick up packages for free, too. 7) Make sure you give a detailed, accurate description of the items you're trading away if you don't have the ability to take and post images of the items. Nobody is ever disappointed when they receive their trade items and they're in better shape than or exactly as pictured and/or described, but when someone fails to mention a broken A-pillar, worn chrome, or a built up that's a complete glue bomb, people will be disappointed (to put it mildly). Avoid any potential disappointment by giving a full, detailed description of the items you're trading from the start. ? "Never trade anything you can't afford to lose." Every trade is a risk you agree to take, even if the risk is extremely low. The vast majority of MCM members are honest people who want to simply enjoy building models, so please take a few extra steps to make sure your potential trading partner is trustworthy before you proceed. 9) If you are a new member with relatively few posts, you may want to consider offering to ship your item first, so that your trading partner is assured that you are trustworthy and can ship their half of the trade with confidence. People can be a bit skeptical of new members who have a very low post count and are active in the Trading Post and Wanted sections, and while this does not at all mean new members aren't trustworthy, it's just a reminder than human nature comes into play here on the forum, too. We were all new members at one time, too, but all it takes is one good trade to establish yourself as a good trader, so this suggestion is just something you might want to consider. 10) Moderators are not able to police every transaction, and nor do we want to. We come here to discuss models and enjoy the hobby just like you, but occasionally there are times when it might be a good idea to send a Private Message (PM) to a Moderator to get some help, advice, or let them know there is some sort of problem regarding a trade. Please remember that there's only so much we can do to help, and again, we are not here to ensure that every trade goes off perfectly, but we will try to help if we can. 11) Post what you're looking to get back in trade. If you're offering things for trade, make it clear for potential trading partners what you're willing to trade for. 12) If you have more than one item for trade, please post them in one single topic instead of starting a new post for each item. 13) If your item is no longer available for trade, please ask a Mod via PM to remove your post. You can also replace the post title with "DELETE" and a Mod will remove it.

  10. No worries George. This gets discussed every so often. At one point Gregg did over a place to buy and sell models for free, but it was hardly used and he shut it down.
  11. We are going to fix the header note that says to go to the dead site. Gregg provided a place to sell and it was hardly used. Gregg says no selling on this site, so no selling. I did suggest, at one point, that we make selling part of a premium subscription that members had to pay for. In my scenario, we would only provide a place to buy & sell models and would make everyone sign a disclaimer/waiver saying we are not responsible for any transaction conducted on the site. In the end, I think there is just too much liability to take on. Look at how many folks complain to eBay daily. eBay can afford the required legal team, we cannot. It is not as simple as everyone thinks.
  12. Please join me in welcoming our newest moderators, Dan (iamsuperdan) and Mike (Badluck 13). These two gentlemen answered our call for volunteers and we feel they are going to be a great addition to the team. Welcome aboard guys!
  13. No worries. Members cannot delete there own threads, they have to be reported to a moderator.
  14. I am going to lock this down, I think everyone has expressed their feelings. I know everyone that has participated in this thread has read and understands the rules. I will leave everyone with this. These rules have been in place for years, just not strictly, or sometimes evenly, enforced. That will change this Saturday. Basically, everyone starts with a clean slate (some should be VERY happy about that). Mods will be more uniformly enforcing the published rules. Some of the rules are common sense, like use of language and the way others are treated here. The rule about full name needed to participate in the Trading and Wanted sections is to help protect members from the few bad apples that like to show up and abuse those areas. We will let everyone know if any rules are added, modified or removed.
  15. I am glad you all caught that. As minor as that seems, it is not allowed. Once we start enforcing the rules, I do not expect to see that from anyone. This is a discussion thread so that you guys can vent and complain about the rules (that have been in place and broken for years).
  16. See you guys are being short-sighted. You can absolutely have differing opinions. You just need to think about how you post it. You can say you disagree and explain why. You can't say the other persons opinion is a load of carp while doing it.
  17. I am glad the revised rules have caught everyone's attention. Just a reminder to all....this is a family oriented model car forum, first and foremost. The revised rules are to help stop some of the more recent trends that have been occurring. There was a time when the rules of this forum consisted of "be respectful of others", that didn't work and stricter rules and punishments had to added. We are trying to make it very clear what will no longer be tolerated. Most of things that folks are worried about, shouldn't even be a problem. Why use foul language? Why put someone else down? Why stir the pot? Post your models, ask questions, enjoy what others are doing, post your wild speculations why we will or will not see the '30 Ford from Revell.
  18. I think you are going to have to start describing these parts as "lacking resemblance to the real thing" Continued use of bad language will not be tolerated. Several folks have been changing the spelling of words to get around the language, which the owner of this free board that everyone enjoys, put in place for a reason. Oh, and putting folks down, even if in a backhanded way like saying they lack the knowledge to understand what excrement means, is frowned upon.
  19. There is no requirement to provide photos. If you guys do not want to read about the progress, then do not comment. Do not harass another member because they are not doing what you want them to do. If you do not have anything constructive to say, do not participate in this thread.
  20. They do not count toward the new rules. They are part of your permanent history on the forum, but will not be combined with future points you will acquire.
  21. Older points are not being carried over. You sure are worried about what could happen. Just follow the rules and everything will be fine.
  22. "In general" we don't care what happens in PM. If you send PM's that you are afraid will become public or that the recipient thinks needs to be brought to our attention, then you need to rethink what you are sending.
  23. Not sure why anyone would need to curse on a model forum, but "bad word removed" would be acceptable.
  24. I merged the three together since they all had comments.
  25. Well, it would be a Tip & Trick for transporting models. I think that would be the best place for it. I will move the others down there as well.
