I was really impressed with the fit and finish of the parts in the Revell kit so I bought another one for my next project. This one I will try my hand at painting the body. And since it is another Ford I am pretty familiar with the parts already and I think that will make it a little easier for assembling. What is the best tape for masking?????

THANKS FOR THE INFO.............................

I know I picked a good driver. When he took over after Dale Sr died, he won his 1st race in only his 3rd Cup start at Atlanta, then went on to win at Chicago. Won Rookie of the Year plus also ran the full BUSCH series that year and won the Championship. Talk about pressure for a young driver. Pretty impressive as far as I am concerned.

Went as far as I could with the model. I don't have the dexterity in my hands and fingers like I used to. I couldn't get all the roll cage pieces to fit along with some of the other small and tiny pieces. Got to figure out a way to grip and hold small pieces and to paint them. Will continue on with another project and try to improve on the quality.

I am 74 years old and have not built a car in a long time. So I bought Harvick model and started working on it. I wasn't ready to try masking and painting the body so I installed all the decals my pudgy little hands could handle and then clear coated the whole car. The clear coat really made the white plastic body really shine................I didn't paint the body at all so I am really happy with the finish.............looks like white porcelain in person. I have the chassis about 95% done so I will post pics of that when I am done. Looks like I am hooked again.

And GM just cancelled the Impala...................what a shame! -
Beautiful job on the model...................glad Joey got it instead of Truex..................still a lot of empty seats in the stands for a championship race..................NASCAR has a long way to go to fix things.

Great build.................if I remember right Toyota didn't start running in the Cup series until 2007.

In the real world the show cars built in 2000 had 358" LA engines based off standard engines. The race cars had a completely new design called the R5/P7 which came out in the first season in 2001. If the kit was based off of the show car they might have used a Chevy engine to save costs etc

Help me understand the NHRA classes for an old Gasser

Gassers and Altereds both were designed around the basic formula of weight divided by cubic inches. Yes there were other differences but still the basic formula was the same for both of them. -

You applaud my effort?????????????? All I was saying was that there were 2 different theories going around back then about how to get weight transfer to the rear with the tires and suspensions available at the time. I didn't praise one over the other. I posted the Ramchargers "High & Mighty" car pic as an example of one theory as compared to all the other pictures showing the nose high attitude. I worked at the Chrysler Tech Center in Michigan for 42 years in the Motorsports area doing Race Engine development and testing for all Chrysler race engines involved in NASCAR and NHRA so I spent many weeks and months over the years at drag strips and circle tracks so I know what was out there. -

I know it is an Altered car.....................the point of the pictures was to show how early on racers raised up their cars for what they thought at the time would be a performance improvement. That's what I was talking about in my post. -

Also, don't forget there were quite a few different drag racing associations at the time like NHRA, AHRA, MHRA, NASCAR etc and their rules varied. Also, the nose up stance was in theory that when the car launched this would help weight transfer to the rear. The cars that were level at rest would rise up when the car launched and in theory this helped weight transfer also. Here are a couple pics of the restored High & Mighty race car that the Ramchargers first ran in 1959-1960. They kinda of started the craze. -
