'41 Willys Pickup Gasser circa late '60s - Finished
modelfink replied to gasser59's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Looking great! I'm having the same issue with the radiator in a build I'm working on. I have the room for it, but not sure how to set up the fuel pump once a water pump is mounted to the front of the block. -
hey guys, I'm putting a 392 blown and injected Hemi from the Winged Express kit into a vintage gasser. Gasser rules require a radiator which means I will need to source a water pump. I've got a big block chevy water pump that fits (from the Nova SS kit). Most of the blown and injected drag Hemis I have seen do not run water pumps. Any suggestions for a set up that would fit within the vintage (60s) gasser rules?

double leaf springs on the 53 Ford axel. Keep the crossmember under the pan or scrap it to save weight?

Did some frame mods this weekend. The Plymouth front end was cut and replaced with the frame rails from the 53 Ford truck. I used pins to strengthen the bond and added styrene strip along the sides to merge into the Plymouth frame. Motor mounts and trans loop are shown on the last pic with a mock up of the hemi. There is a cross member below the oil pan that can be shaved for clearance or removed altogether. Opinions?

Would a full race gasser not run a radiator? I know many drag cars did. -
good tip, thanks

Hey guys, This is the first time I have documented a build so be patient as I work my way through this one. There will be many little steps along the way. The inspiration for this came after seeing the Southeastern Gassers Association's event at Union Dragway in Union SC. I looked over my stash and decided the 41 Plymouth would make a good gasser. The inspiration photo is a 39 Dodge with a 392 Hemi. I love the unpolished, all business approach to this thing and my build will be very similar regarding the final finish. The first order of business was to open the grill. There will be a moon tank between the grill and radiator and I wanted it to be visible through the grill. This was a tedious task that took several sessions with the xacto knife. I will keep the chrome and dull it, and weather the exposed plastic to resemble rust and dirt. Next was the grill shell. It was an ill fitting piece out of the box and required some sanding and gap filling . I may need to revisit this step after primer to make sure everything is smooth. When researching the 1:1 41 Plymouth, the vertical seams can be seen but not the seam running across the front above the grill. The hood was also sanded and filled.

So I'm taking pics of a build I'm working on and wanted to do a build thread. Do most people start a thread and keep editing it? Will folks get bored of seeing lots of small steps along the way? This is the first time I have documented a build.

The Silver Gypsy! This thing is cool. Very original and unique. As outlandish as it is, everything is well balanced and works well together. My only critique would be seeing some mold lines on the roll bar, but that is a picky detail. Very well done.

This build is Amazing.

16 matching zoomies!! that takes some epic skills

This would be awesome in a dragstrip dio…display it in a wheelie with fruit pouring out of the back onto the strip LOL

VERY NICE! -
good point about thinning it out. seems like a bit of work. I suppose on severe chop jobs the holes improved visibility? Still on the fence about them.

Alright guys, since the 30 Ford coupe just hit the shelves I need to know how you plan on cutting perfect holes in the visor. A large bit in a pin vise?

dirty and mean! love it. I like the holes drilled in the rear frame rails

37 Chevy Gasser - Hand Painted Artwork

The scoop my not reach above the hood, which always looks cool, but the motor would need to be raised to achieve that i'm afraid. Super tall stacks with out a scoop would look awesome too -

Love the spirit of this build. Very nice weathering. My only suggestion for a future build would be to detail those velocity stacks a bit by adding the injectors at the base with fuel lines. I'm not an expert on these engines but something seems a little off about that stack/scoop set up. Overall it looks very cool. -
love the dirty finish
