"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
disconovaman replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Don't be sad but I've took a turn on the truck... as mentioned I have been altering the Crew Chief blazer 4X4 frame. I swiped the wheels and tires from the Baja bronco and I removed the top trim off the cab. I'll repaint that once I'm done with the frame work... More struggling on the way... -
"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!

You're one of my favorite modelers! ? -
I must've cut them out lol... I do remember they were opened on my shelf... I remember almost all those builds but the bad thing is... I couldn't say for sure where and who they all went too... I went through a phase where I would build all of one company and those old Revell repops were marked down every time I was at Rose's?
-
Well I guess mine was the 54 Panel... I just found this photo on Google... Different kit maybe the doors opened? on the 54? Can't remember now I don't think they do on the 53 Gasser...
-
It's like a sad ending to a movie every time I hear that the models in the photos didn't survive. I had many of the kits that you have built in the photos and I can't beleive that not one is with me... I'm hoping that some of my built kits are packed away in someone's basement waiting to get discovered... Mine was the 80's repop and I think it was like a Red with neon scribbles? on the decal sheet. Pretty sure Revell "De-gassered" on the box art aleast...
-
I do remember those! My models were not ready for any model car magizines by far... But I did present them at many a Show & Tell at school around 4th and 5th Grade... ? The Chevelle into a truck (Elcamino) sounds fun. The pinto and 53 Chevy Panel are kits I built as well... I'm sitting here recounting what I did with each and every one of them now... I started this in 1990 never finished it (gave it away) but last year it found its way back to me...
-
Indeed, and I implore you to put those memories to use and build a kit that you built back in the day exactly how it was built... Err... or aleast the same colors and style lol... I guarantee you will relive those Great memories... The first model I ever built was a Monogram 57 Chevy... I was 12... I'd been messing with garage and yard sale built ups and junk given to me before the 57 but this was the first one brand new from a store (Kmart). I painted it Sapphire Blue with a white top and I used the flame decals in the box. I loved that car. I would stare at it on the shelf for hours it seemed. I really want to recreate that kit some day... But I'll struggle with keeping it simple, (gloss black brush paint and silver trim) I just know it. Lol...

This truck turned out well... I'm currently working on the same kit but I'm leaving it as a long bed. The decals look cool but I think the gold really pops on it's own. I scanned and printed decals but I'm not satsified so I'm in the process of changing my design... I need to stay focused like you did with this great build. -

I'd be using those other words when I called them up to get my replacement! Dang that does suck... The biggest concern is the brittle plastic... -
I think if you go back and read the entire thread you'll see that it was CBP not CPB... The "C" stands for Community, we know that because it's in the Community thread section. The "B" stands for Builds because that's what goes on here for the most part. ? The "P" is tricky to me because some say it's Project (that makes since to me) but I always thought it was Page? Community Build Page... CBP. With all these emojis and abbreviations like LOL, TTYL, TY, and all the rest... It's hard to keep them straight... I always wonder how shocking it would be for a person from the 1700's or 1800's to travel through time and see how it is now. They would probably fall over dead. ?

I built the LS-1 for the Camaro today. I tried to detail it as well as I could. These engines are pretty much plastic and aluminum so black and silver is about it for colors. I googled LS swaps for some ideas how they're being personalized. There are some unique ways to make them less uniform. I painted the valve covers Red and picked out the coil packs, runners, and painted the molded plug wires. I'll be adding a light black wash to tone down the silver in the cast areas... I did add headers and an aluminum LS-6 FAST intake... for performance. I've seen some LS swaps from the Revell 02 Camaro but none are really detailed.

Awesome! That movie is currently streaming on Netflix. I just watched it...

Never thought about that style, that would be ideal for this kit... -

I will be deleting those hidious flares from mine... I have been working on and off on this Datsun that had flares. I actually got this as a started project and the flares were already cut off. I think there is no reason to have flares on a 2X4 so they gotta go. -
Absolutely! That is great! you're number 39! I can't believe there's this many participants... And maybe I'm wrong but is testors gloss green a perfect color for the mustang? With some weathering I think it will be Awesome!

Test fitting the big LS-1 into the Camaro... I'm about to get the body prepped for paint and then it's off to the races...

These photos are ready to be on the top of the box selling models... Detailed to perfection and representing what traditional hot todding is all about. I'm glad it survived the glue bomb bin too.

I found photos of this monster truck ( Revell 56 Ford) I built back in 1991 the Porsche is my friend's he wasn't really a builder until I got him into it... I helped him paint and get the car together and it turned out good...His mom took these photos for us... She was really supportive of him and she offered to take the photos since it's what she did for the newspaper and local magazines... He liked the truck so much that I just gave it to him... I'm glad I have these photos to remind me of it.

That is Amazing! Man, just think how much value there is in those photos, and how much they would be worth today!
-
This is Awesome! Back in the day this would've been such a foreign concept to take pictures of model cars. The average preson didn't own an expensive 35 mm camera so it really never occured to take close up photos like we do today with smart phones. Technology has advanced, if you think about it though... box top photos were often of the real model and those pictures were really great, so technology was there. I had a buddy in high school, his mom was a photographer and she took some photos of our models (around 1991) I was amazed, I think I have them some where. Now I have to find them. If any one else has photos of models built in the early days I would love to see them!
-
Unfortunately I do not... Between me giving away my built kits and mom's yard sales I have no kits I built before 1990. I had a high school friend who had a guest house behind his parents. We would hang out there after school. Around our Junior year his parents let him move in and live there by himself. (28 years ago)...The house had these built in glass cases and we filled them up with my models. Last year I seen him and we caught up on life. He has built a house on land he owned behind the house. I asked him whatever happened to all those models and he just said they're gone man. I was hanging on the idea that they were still in those cases... wishful thinking I guess...

I was doing some spring cleaning and found some old photos of my model collection from 32 or 33 years ago. This is where it all started for me and I just wanted to share. When I look at these pictures I can't help but hear a voice saying "You will build models and take pictures of them 30 years from now"... ? This was the first time pics were taken of my models... I can look back and remember each experience with these models but I can't remember what I did yesterday... Is that wrong? ? Although these are long gong most are repopped and readily available. I may have to replicate these builds just for the memories... Thanks for looking Have a good day..

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
disconovaman replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Cool! yeah those vette hoods are tricky to swap out and it seems they vary slightly from kit to kit... In the past I've cut down a steel wheel and used the rally center from the 69 chevelle and the lug pattern from the steel wheel also... that works really well... -

Our Ollies never got em... But I was up in Jersey at an Ollies a few years back and they had an insane amount of new and current releases... I bought all I could afford...
