  1. That is Beautiful... The "Brand X" GM bodystyles were some great cars. Turned out great in the short time you were challanged to finish it, I hope I can say the same by the end of the week. Merry Christmas everyone and Happy Modeling!
  2. NovaCane decals would've been nice but I do like the other choice for the Drag car name INNOVATOR... and the OLD PRO door decal is just nostalgic... I have built the Old Pro in many colors. Here is the Revell car with The Old Pro box art.
  3. Here is my thought... you may get the desired result if you use Testors White lightening pearl as a top coat. (Hobby lobby stocks it). I'm afriad if you are just starting out, the nail polish/airbrush route may seem too complicated... not that the airbrush method is a bad idea. I painted a pt cruiser Hot magenta by Modelmasters (General lee pictured) with the White lightening as a top coat. It looked like the 1.1 mustang pictured. The blue vette is Testors baby blue with this same technique... and it totally changed the color. You could use Testors Electric pink (Candy Striper 55 Chevy) with the White lightening over it to lighten the color a bit. I would do a few sprayouts on plastic spoons to see which one suits the build. The spray cans will be the simplest way to go I think, good luck with it... I look forward to seein the progress.
  4. Yes... It's NOT gonna have DECALS but it will be finished!
  5. I'm struggling! Not really sure if I'll finish unless I change directions drastically. I wasn't satisfied with the hood decals they had too much mint between the colors and with these clear decals being transparent, they weren't bright enough. So I've re-done them three times and have yet to be happy with them. I'm may have to make a shocking change to get it done by Dec 31. Sorry to keep stringing everyone along... The pictures are of the last two times I've re-done it.
  6. Thank you! I've been waiting to see the contents and it looks like I won't be dissapointed.
  7. This would be cool to recreate, the whole scene...
  8. I think espo may be right because I can't imagine why Amt would make those fenders seperate from the beginning. https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwiO7pqrkbTfAhWkd98KHWlEB5YQjhx6BAgBEAI&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.modelcarsmag.com%2Fforums%2Ftopic%2F137179-125-amt-72-pontiac-ventura-ii-sprint%2F&psig=AOvVaw3dzCaZAXbYGrNyVHAWqlgx&ust=1545591759372330
  9. Two seperate engines... AMT just got the small block wrong... And I thought the Poncho Pontiac came first then the Novacane Pro-mod then in 78 or 79? the Old Pro nova was introduced... Snake might know for sure...
  10. I've been trying to straighten one out myself. I like the kit and have gotten used to all the problems. Those molds have gotten so worn out over the years not to mention it was never a good tool. You just have to do the best you can with what you have to work with. I've built many over the years and I've never been dissapointed with the end result. Keep on Truckin! I'll be watching...
  11. I have but it's that same old crappy tool as the hardtop car. The hood is cool. with a little work it will fit the Revell car.
  12. Back for a quick Revell 69 Camaro Tip... First I'll start with my favorite detail I learned to do with this kit... opening the grill to expose the radiator support. This trick can also be used on the RS grill. I use a razor blade to shave the back thin, then I use a toothpick to peck out the slots. A sanding stick or sand paper will clean up any loose shavings. Be careful when you get down to the nitty-gritty because it will be fairly delicate. It usually takes me about an hour, (I've had alot of practice) It may take awhile to get the technique down, just be extra cautious. If you paint the support black and the grill silver this is a very nice detail. If you paint the support a body color, and the grill silver or black, It looks cool that way too.
  13. So the car that was modified into the funny car was the AMT annual? Always looked MPCish to me... that just shows how rare those things are lol! I'd like to see a picture of the one you have Snake... It is a pretty cool kit. I've only seen a few myself. I'm glad you are around to clarify... I'm learning alot from you here latley. Thanks bud.
  14. Here are some of the parts I'll be using. The wheels are "Spyder" type from the MPC 79 trans am and the side pipes from the AMT 68 camaro. The decals are the only thing I'll be using from the original kit.
  15. Thanks, As an extra detail I plan on printing that artwork onto vinyl sticker paper and making the box match the build. It has some small differences but the artwork looks like it would be on a moderen version of the classic boxart.
  16. Yeah, I love it! would be cool to see the real thing hit the streets, would not be to much to ask since the 4 door mustang is coming to production soon.
  17. The Revell kit is pretty straight forward, it doesn't have any fitment or dimension issues. I don't think another 69 Camaro kit can compare in 1/25th scale. There's the very rare and long forgotten Mpc 69 camaro. The tooling was modified on it to build the funny car and was never a stock body agian. That kit is pretty accurate (if you can find one) they are expencive too! Amt bought Mpc and the funny car has been reissued but it's not the same now. It's the one that has the hideaway grill doors molded with the body and the grill inserts are seperate...
  18. Very interesting read Snake, I had never seen that thread before... The car looks fantastic with the improvements you made. I was aware of the door glass moldings being iffy... now when I build the kit I will deffinatly refer back here to make the changes. Nice build on that car too, The grey primer and wheels makes it period correct!
  19. I like Amt's 67/68 Camaro... It's kinda basic and simple but I don't have any real complaints about it. I have a few in my stash. I'm using the headers and sidepipes from the 68 Street machine for this build. Yo can improve the Wheels from the Revell Camaro by sanding the backs off (saving only the trim ring) which is the best thing about the kit's wheels anyway. Then you can use the wheels from Amt's 69 chevelle. By sanding the fronts off those rallys so they're not so deep. By glueing the Revell trim ring to the AMT wheel it will look more realistic. I usually paint the wheel light grey or argent silver for added realism. I agree the Revell Camaro rally wheels aren't the best, they do look better on the car once it's built.
  20. I'm glad you're not sittin out, I may never NOT participate ever agian, I had so much fun with the last one. (my first one too!) I have changed my mind alot on the one I'm gonna build Not sure yet what I'm doing... still thinking it over.
  21. I admire the imperfect approch on rebuilds you have...makes it that more interesting... I don't know why I want to get every spec of paint and glue off a rebuild.. it never occurred to me that the original build is part of the originality of a model built 30 or 40 years ago. Not that I have any that old yet, but I will give any future rebuilds more thought before ripping one apart.
  22. Yeah sounds like you're gonna need some old fashioned R&R Greg... take care and focus of your health... I'll keep you in my prayers to wish you well and a speedy recovery.
  23. All those Monogram pics were a little confusing... Plus I don't know how to change to larger fonts on here... The Monogram car is as you described it, a "backbirth" and it's hideous... lol!
  24. Yes, that is what I'm doing... the Monogram box arts really inspired me. I only wished the contents in the box were as inspiring. However as a kid I built them anyway and it wasn't until the Revell car was released that I stopped building them.
