"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
disconovaman replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I hope this is the official thread for progress updates on the stalled builds... This stalled project was not mine but I'm taking on the job of finishing it. It has been passed around from at least 3 guys before me (maybe more)... I plan on doing my part to make it the best it can be. I'm focusing on it being a Promod-ish drag car simular to the "Lowmad" in the picture. My plans have changed on the build so many times already. It was gonna be as simple as just a repaint but I couldn't get past the mound of spot putty the OB used. When I dug all that mess out, it was on then. So far I've Stripped it down, removed the fender wells, stretched the rear wheelwells and realigned the top... I'm on a roll... Stay tuned! -
Hey, Thank you to everyone for the Nice comments... I started on this kit back in April and I didn't put alot of stress on myself to get it finished by Dec 1. I put a lot of thought into it though, I hope it shows... It was a fun build at my leisure which I usually don't build in that style. I always say I do my best work under pressure. lol! Thanks agian guys,

Nice work! I can't help but think how well this kit would sell if it was out of the box like this! It's Amazing how a few simple details greatly improved an otherwise ordinary kit. I won't pass on another 10 dollar one agian from a swap meet.

Thanks, I added some more pics in the Under glass Truck section as well...

Revell 1981 ford f-150

Love the purple what color/paint is that? -
65 Chevy Stepside... It was built to compete in this year's Cannonball Run Community Challange. It has a 6cyl from the 60 Chevy Amt kit and wheels from the Revell 57 Chevy Sedan. The idea for the truck is as if it were pulled from behind an abandoned Gulf station and Resurrected with all the new parts nessasary to make it reliable and cool. New Drivetrain, bumpers, grill, wheels and tires... Keeping with tradition on the Cannonball theme, I scratchbuilt a fuel tank that I feel is much needed in a point A to point B race like this. I'm not sure how many gallons this tank would hold but I'd say alot... which is why I slightly lowered it more in the rear to give the illusion that the tank is full. Thanks for looking sorry for all the pics but I kinda like how it turned out. lol!

2018 Cannonball Run CBP - PLEASE VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE!!!
disconovaman replied to Jantrix's topic in Community Builds
Well... I made it! Here is My Resurrected Gulf Gas Service truck! I built it as if it were pulled out from behind an abandoned Gulf station. New drivetrain, bumpers, grill, weather stripping, and a special fuel tank that I'm quite sure will not run empty. That means this ole bone stock 6 banger won't have to make any stops! -

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!

Let's do it... I'll have to swing for the fences but I'll give it my best shot... This camaro is a Glue bomb I just scored and it is on the bench currently... but the blazer and a chopped 55 nomad are probably my goals by the end of the year. -
AMT '60 Chevy Custom Fleetside
disconovaman replied to MachinistMark's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I've owned two Custom cab small window trucks and have seen my share of big back window custom cabs but I've seen just as many small window cabs with the Custom trim. The Custom cab trim was not limited to the big back window cab and not rare to see on the small window cab either. Speaking from someone who has studied the truck for decades and has a passion for them lol! -
1960 Chevy Pick up truck Re issue 2018
disconovaman replied to disconovaman's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Wow! Thanks! Inspiring boxart I like it... I was told the "Moderen" tooled Amt 60 was gonna be re-issued, and I'd heard that they were working on adding a go-cart to the kit, or the soapbox derby car from the 68 Elcamino re-issue. (long before the yellow version was released). I wasn't sure if it was true but that boxart looks convincing. I was puzzled by that original 60 Chevy boxart but excited to see if would happen. I'm sure that tooling is long gone by now anyway. I would've liked to seen Round 2 re-issue the custom issue 60 chevy (it had those flame wheels and big brakes) with a Re design on the decal sheet like they always do would've been cool... I'm in for whatever comes out though... I've had plenty of these kits over the years. I owned 2 real ones also a 60 and a 61. -
http://www.rocketfin.com/chevy-model-car-kits.cfm Can anyone confirm the Re-issue of this ultra rare kit? 1960 Chevy Pick up truck. I can't find anything else about it. Thanks in advance...

Bring Out Your Dead... Long Stalled Models
disconovaman replied to Tom Geiger's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks for the suggestion, I agree that tilt frontends are out. I've desided to reattach it. I'll have to use the fender wells from a donor cab but other than that I want to use as many original parts as I can. I had plans of working on it this month but I realized the CBR is ending soon so I have been working on my entry. I guess the Frankenstein blazer has stalled agian. -
Some of those photos were of my build "Sunken Treasure" So I'm posting it agian... It placed second in the custom class at the MDA show last year.

I've been working on another one these latley and my son has one he's building as well. Maybe we can spark some interest here with some more builds? I'm sad to see some of the pics get dumped, there were some cool builds on here last year...

I respect the decision and I'll more than likely be gearing up for the build with a van that was a favorite of mine from a popular TV show... a hint but no spoilers... My idea for a Theme is Real Restorations... Here latley the club I'm in have been tossing the idea around about doing a challange that relates to the restoration/recreation of a build-up/glue bomb... Think about it like as in real life you take an existing car and prep it for a race... rebuild the engine, paint and body work, and any upgrades that it may need to compete. I think it would be fun to see the entry before during and race day ready... "Rescue a build-up Cannonball" Just an Idea for future Run ideas...

Nicely done both times... I could see this thing cruising through some small town somewhere in Virginia. Cool build!

1/12 57 chevy question
disconovaman replied to gray07's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I used the custom wheels from the 1/12 69 camaro and the steel wheels from the 1/16th 55 Chevy. I sanded the backs off the 69 camaro wheels and dropped the steel wheels into the outer ring from the 69 wheels. -
looks spot on with the Box art, I love it.

Let's See Your Tow Trucks!

I was watching Junkyard Empire the other day and got the idea to build this model be looking for the hot wheels 1/24 version soon... until then -
I love boxart, these are some nice builds that represents the box very well... here is one I'm working on now... The famous Pepper Shaker...

Yes, there are minor differences but one major change between the civilian cars was the steering wheel, that's how you can tell a 78 from a 77. The 78 wheel was "truck like" too me, never cared for it. Dwayne has the correct 9c1 wheel for this application and the Dash turned out nicely as well. Great attention to detail...

I had this kit in 1990ish and I remember vividly the rear tires being the Mickey Thompson Sportsman tires that came in the Superbee pro street and the custom duellie Chevrolet snap kit... I remember the surprise I had when I examined all the parts and found those tires in the kit... Jackpot! it was great time to have an extra set of those ProStreet tires and beleive me I didn't use them on the Batmobile... I did build the kit, and loved the Michael Keaton film. I'm not sure what tires I used. The stripes are a nice detail for nostalgia... Maybe Tim Burton should've added them to the car originally...

I couldn't resist posting pics of the one I built back in January... hope you don't mind. It's almost a mirror of yours with the exception of the wheels. I guess great minds do think alike...
