Suburban Commando
disconovaman replied to Chuck Most's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Killer Job Chuck! I've got one myself, I just don't know what to do with it. So many ideas... I kinda thought about the forward cab but I'll need 2 kits to complete the build. I didn't know what to do with the leftovers from the 2nd kit but this build gives me an idea... -
Bring Out Your Dead... Long Stalled Models
disconovaman replied to Tom Geiger's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I guess I was into saving original issue build ups back then... I probably should reuse the glass and top onto the Madd Mudder, Those kits rare now too. I don't have a spare body now, I cut the doors off and was gonna build a mud truck with no doors, was gonna have mud spatter weathering (another stalled project) I got rid of it last year. I agree the Blazer should be re-issued... (IMO) it's the best one. I wonder if it had something to do with lost or damaged tooling because that blazer hasn't been in production since the 70's? There may be good news for it though, ATLANTIS BUYS REVELL TOOLINGS – I read this article the other day that claimed hundreds of tools were aquired from a warehouse so maybe that blazer is among them? http://culttvman.com/main/breaking-news-atlantis-buys-revell-toolings/ I'm truly inspired to get this one back into shape now. Question, do I re-attach the front end or leave the tilt? -
Bring Out Your Dead... Long Stalled Models
disconovaman replied to Tom Geiger's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Wow, these are some of the coolest projects I've seen. The Daytona Camaro and the Camper truck... the Willys and the Jeeps too! I'd like to see these completed. I didn't take any photos of this pryor to stripping it yesterday (I regret it now) but this project has been a labor of love since 1992. I aquired this in a collection of build-ups. Here's a bit of history, Original Build was brush painted Baby blue. Severely glue bombed. I restored it by stripping the paint and dremaling the glue off it. I rebuilt it as a pro street 2wd blazer. Teal green with 37 ford monogram graphics 1992 to 2000. I desided to redo it as a 4X4 when I bought the Mad Mudder. So I thought a tilt front would fit the build and I repainted it pearl white. In 2007 I painted it purple with the Mad Mudder graphics. Then In 2012 I painted white on the top and two-tone on the sides. Yesterday I stripped the paint back to the original plastic Getting ready to Restore it agian maybe back to baby blue or Cream as it was molded in... -

The Studebaker is 1/25th scale. Despite the monthly theme we still bring any other projects we're working on during the month. The Challange is just a way to get us off the couch and Thinking about a deadline...
-
Next month's theme is the "No Spray" Challange No spray paint allowed... We're not using any spray paint on the builds... here are a few "special guests" that our members can't resist building and bringing to the meet. Enjoy!
-
Our Club challange for the month was "Other scale" typically we all build 1/24 1/25 scale so we desided to break away from the norm and build Smaller or Larger this month...Here are the results, thanks for looking.

Double cab Dodge
disconovaman replied to disconovaman's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I don't really know his plans for it... I just set those tires under it for the photo... I do know he's using a desiel engine in it. So I think he's doing an Extreme Deisel Brothers type Street truck/Off Road multi-use Truck but I'm not sure... I shot some paint on it... I tried to consider him and his preference in the design... I hope he likes it... Thanks for checking it out... -

Pardon the mess on the bench, I'm gettin my fill of body work... I have two Blazer conversions, a crew cab dodge, and this chop top job goin... Not too bad for a hack job, I'm might be able to get this one done. My original plan was to build the truck in my Highschool parking lot, however every time I work on it I get this vision of it being Pearl white (White lightning) and a Pure gold top with black pinstripes. I'm thinking wide whites and chrome steelies... we'll see, I still want to do the original plan too but but I'm afraid midnight blue will show too much of my bad filler work...

I built the kit and felt the same way with the fitment but I powered through the build anyway. Built as a coal mine employee transport veichle... Maybe this can give you inspiration, hope you don't mind me posting... lookin forward to seein what you do with it...

I like the flat finish on this color, Ash... I can't imagine how nice it will look with clearcoat

Trevor, a guy from our local model builders club got this from Ebay... Someone had already started the crewcab project but had abandoned it. Trevor did some work to it but desided it was too much bodywork and asked me if I'd take a stab at it. So I've been blasting away at it... the first pics are from him before I got a hold of it. I plan on surprising him with all the finishes and details with matte paint job and gloss accents.

I hope you can get it finished, I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes. I built the kit and really enjoyed coming up with ideas to make it cool. My idea was to build a road race inspired Pro -Touring - Touring. I chopped the top, removed the centers from the 26" wheels and added the wooden wheels from the 23T kit, stretched the frame, and added a 409. This pic shows the car in progress from last year but it is finished now. I had alot of fun with this one. I hope maybe my build can give you some food for thought? Hope you don't mind me sharing here. Also I'd like to trade you something for the wheels if you're not gonna use them? let me know, Thanks... Good luck with the build.

69 Ford F100

This build makes me think of this truck from my town, it shows up at the local county fairs and parades. Its iconic around here where I grew up. It's been a fixture of this town since the early 80's. Ever since Mobious released the kit I've been wanting to build the truck but I haven't yet. I'm inspired to start it now... -
Thanks guys for the nice feedback... I read alot of Hot Rod, Super Chevy, Mini truckin, and Car Craft magazines between the Late 80's and earily 90's. That's how I determined what I was gonna build. The Superbee and the Comet were both built in the 80's... The Camaro is the style that could be seen around my town in the 80's In fact, this is a replica of a guy from my town. Henry had a 70 camaro with weld wheels and gold Moroso valve covers.. the model was built in 98. It was a fair turnout but I wish some club members would've embraced the 80's essence more. Some of those guys aren't gonna "waste" a good model for one club challenge... they're just not gonna paint their model hot pink, lime green, or Florescent yellow. It kinda fell flat but oh well, next month's challenge is "Other Scale"(any scale other than 1/24 1/25) I'll be back here to report the results, for I am the only member in my club that is on this forum...

Thanks, Slixx graphics are the decals.

Looks like Fifties Aqua... one of my favorites...

Jacked Up GMC/Weekend Warrior CBP
disconovaman replied to KWT's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Very nice and clean build... looks better than the one on the box. -
I wanted the "mail-slot" back window on it so what I did was cut the back window out... then I sectioned it seperate from the cab then I made the chop on the cab to fit the back window...well kinda. It's rough... I hope I can salvage it... my regret is I wished I would've googled how to chop the cab before. Thanks for the encouragement guys. More later...
