A title that I've earned over the years. That is for sure! Disco was never apart of my life. Country Music was the only thing I ever heard until about 85. I definitely was around during the Disco days but not apart of it at all. I like all the classics in music now. I'm too old to understand new music today I gave up about 5 years ago. Lol! I've owned 18 75-79 novas... here is one of my favorites. I owned it from and 98-2012.

Yes, Amt did a 75-79 nova too... also a hatchback. They had to be competeing with Mpc with this model. Not as good as the Mpc kit (IMO). The poportions of this kit are way off, not nearly as accurate as the mpc kit (wheelwells, and the top is too short...looks chopped.) I've built many of these as well.. the parts on the way are from this kit... (taillights and nova script). We had a Hot wheels challange in our local club and I built the Hot wheels that should've been. A disco nova has never been done yet. Here are some pics of the hot wheels 1:25 76 nova... and my disconova junkyard...

Good lookin car Dwayne! Mustangs make Awesome Cop/Pacer cars. I had a friend (Wes) who had a 90 Fox notch Ex cop car from Florida. After service it went to Georga then he found it and it came to Va. The story he told was that the car was used to pace speeders. It was dark jade green (unmarked). With these black 8 inch wheels and a small centercap. it looked tuff! Of all the cars I've owned only two were hatchbacks. I guess mpc definitely had the market dialed in when they tooled the kit. In real life the hatchback nova had less production numbers than the trunk car.

There is a Thread on SNS the nova fourm that is dedicated to the restoration of the 9c1 Ex police novas. For those guys a base nova (dead granny's) car won't cut it... they were nothing like the real thing... Lol! Ironically the Amt nova has the 4 spoke steering wheel known as the Sport wheel because it was standard equipment on the 75-76 Super Sport. That steering wheel was part of the 9c1 package as well. The problem with the back seat on the mpc car is as you know it's a hatchback so the seat is shorter because it's made to fold down. I've built lots of these kits and have converted some of them to trunk versions. What I would do was add to the ends of the seat not the most conventional way but I don't consider myself a fabricator. I would struggle on that 4 door interior conversion. I could take on that 77-79 dashpad though, that seems fun. Here is a pic of my current hatchback...

Perfect fit Dwayne! It looks like it was always molded on the car. totally looks like a 9c1 nova. One step closer to the finished product. Those other parts are in the mail, should be there in the next few days.. I'm not sure if you're familiar with the history on the MPC nova, originally started out as a 75 Pontiac Ventura. The original tool was modified to create the 77-78 nova and then modified agian for the 79. Through the years those interiors were unchanged. I'm excited what changes you're making on that interior. Creating the package tray, backseat, and rear doorpanels could be challenging. I don't think I've ever seen bucket seats in the cop cars either. The bench seats were plain with no patteren so that may be an advantage. The 60 chevy Amt pick-up may be a starting point for those seats. Depending on what direction you're heading with the interior could get pretty involved. Also in 77 the dash changed from the 75-76. Here are some pics for reference...

Hey guys, I've been plugging away at the Cannonball challange. From the moment I got this kit the idea was always to build a neglected shop truck. The patina/weathered look seems to be a popular paint theme here this year. It's the like that old sayin "great minds think alike". Anyway I painted this a month ago and I've slowly been gettin it together... I've got more weathering to do but here is how it looks for now.

Dwayne, I have no doubt that you are the best guy for the job... It couldn't have worked out more perfect. The friendships we form here on the fourm is a great foundation for building the best models. Greg has an Awesome reputation in casting some non-ordinary resin projects. I'd say this project fits in that category. The Mpc car best represents the 4th gen nova although it has it's accuracy issues that said, I think Dwayne's 4 door conversion is better than the orignal two door example by far. From the window frames to the correct roof angles this is what it was meant to be. You have breathed new life into a once forgotten model kit. Everytime I see it, makes me think "dang I wished I'd thought of that myself". Lol! Mulsanne blue with black intereior. Jay Leno featured one on his TV show. 56' Ford F-100 "Demon II"
disconovaman replied to mustang1989's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
This truck was at Carlisle Pa. in 2000 and it was the first ford powered F series truck that I had ever seen. That's why I was so drawn to it. I live in Va. and when I would see them at shows they all were SBC. This guy in my town had a real nice 56 called the "California Raisin". Purple with the Cartoon Raisins painted on it. lots of billet aluminum on a chevy 383.. Show winner! I'm not a purist I'll take any combination. But it's nice to see Ford power in a ford. These days it's not as uncommon to see Ford engines in them. I guess swap kits have been invented making it easier to put a moderen ford V8 in a 50's ford truck. -

Wow that is stunning! Showing off some Amazing Modeling skills Joe! I've been working on one for awhile mocking it up mostly. This makes want to get back on it now! I've swapped in a SBC only because every one I ever seen in the 80's and 90's were Chevy powered. I want to replicate something I might've seen at a show back in the day. -
I had a buddy (Roy) in high school that had a 75/78? LTD with a smog 460... he would get that thing up to 100 on the back roads... Scary! The only real difference in the two hoods is the trim that matches the fender extension trim around the headlights. (can be sanded off). While we're on the topic, the chassis from the Revell 69 Nova is a close fit to the MPC 4th gen Nova... In reality it wouldn't be correct but it's better than the one provided in the MPC kit. I've got a bunch of parts left over from the local slot car guys. I'm ready to get a few of these built. I have a 77 body that I'm willing to donate... PM your info and I'll get it out to you...

The short version of the story is my furnace quit on me and the repairman geeked out on my model collection and asked if I'd build a model of his 90 mustang. Without doin any research I said sure, now I'm wondering what is the best car to even start with?... The mpc 88 looks like a good one but is it too expensive? I'm just not that up on the history and availability of a hatchback foxbody... He sent me some pics of it. I'd like to do it as accurate as possible with rear window louvers and Cobra R wheels and if possible the small hood scoop. Maybe I'll do the weathering like his, I don't think he'd mind he seemed pretty proud of the car the way it is. I need help on what kit to use and louvers, wheels etc. etc.. Thanks in advance.

I converted a 79 (Squad Rod) to a 78 when I built a scale replica of my real car. I had it in the hatchback at a show last summer and it got hot and warped the hood, bumper filler, and grill. Luckily it only ruined peices that can be replaced. So it's in the repair shop until I get around to fixing it and it won't be goin to any shows after I get it fixed.

The difference between the 79 and 78 are minimal but I'll show the differences here. I have a fresh 79 body (blue) and a fresh 78 body (white). The 79 fender extensions are square in the top corners and this prevents the 78 grill from working also the 79's bumper filler goes all the way across and the 78 is only raised in the middle allowing the headlight buckets to rest in the correct location. Corrections can be made to the 79 body to allow the 78 grill to fit by cutting the center out and seperating the bumper filler panel away from the body. Not an issue. Some filler putty can be applyed for the turn on the 78 fender extensions. Hopefully you can see the differences in my pictures. I have a front end from the 78 that I would sacrifice for the sake of making a seperate frontend to glue onto the 79 body. Please don't think that I'm nit-picking the project I am your #1 fan.. I love what your doing here and I'm happy that it's going so well. THANK YOU FOR MAKING IT HAPPEN.

I'm excited that this is being done. The dedication to accuracy is impressive. I thought it was good before the change but but that panel between the deck lid and window is a nice touch. I do understand that if it's gonna be cast it has to be as correct as possible. One thing that would be Awesome is if the frontend from the 77-78 could be cast in place of the 79. The grill for the 77-78 represents 4th gen the nova better. The 79 grill was 1 year only with rectangle headlights. I never knew there was a difference in the two kits until Round 2 released the Squad Rod. I've had a few of each but had never compared them. I will be happy either way I'll buy as many as I have ideas for.

The ACME club meet wast last weekend and the theme for the month was the 53 Studebaker. We had quite the interest in the car so we desided to build them and it was a good turnout. And a few other special guests were on display too.

Oh my! I have been wanting to do this also but I was not sure how to do it... you have some Awesome skills! If you would consider a resin caster I'd buy aleast 10! Or if not I'd pay you to do one for me like this one... This is my favorite bodystyle of nova. I have owned 18 over the past 25 years.

Hardly any of us build out of the box... so by putting a price on parts that come from other kits would make it difficult, I suppose. Maybe we could exclude "kit bashing" as part of the 30 bucks. Sometimes I use parts from 4 to 5 different kits on a single build. I think if you aquired the kit as a gift then you are strarting from zero dollars. You now have $30 to put into that kit. So it should be terrific! I'll start by sayin I have 1 model $11.37, one can of paint for $1.99, and 1 can of clearcoat for $3.50... ready to dump it out on the bench... I'II add it all up when I'm done...

I like the back story of the De-Generalized charger...like one of those leftover stunt cars got turned into a cannonball car... and since the 318 was worn out, they dropped in the 6 banger just to make it efficient and dependable. Sassy grass green makes it intimidating and fast looking. Nice work transforming it!

I'd be in for the 30 bucks... I just bought this for $11 at Michael's 60% off coupon. Funny thing is I buy paint about 1 time a week. I got a great deal on some paint from Target resently... beautiful burgandy, coral peach, aqua green, apple red... a bunch of Testors craft colors on clearance for $1.99 a can. regular $4.99... I'm thrifty when it comes to supplies and model kits. Go check out the craft section at Target, some cool colors there. I definitely do not have glue from 10 years ago... I use it as fast as I get it. Lol!

Amazing work! It's coming along nicely and I know you can make it look great. About 8 years ago I emailed you with a suggestion to build the BHC nova. I've always wondered if you ever received it? I've followed your builds for years and have learned so much from reading your website. Keep up the good work.

My choice would be the Revell Copo version because of the dog dish caps, lack of badges, and overall quality of the model. Way better than the Amt kit, albeit the go to kit that we all love it's still a difficult kit to make nice. The good news is that the subject matter will make it easier to build. Don't forget the side moldings and dents. I wanna say somewhere there is screen still that shows the roof partially pushed in. I've always wanted to build the car as a model because I read that after filming it accidentally got sent to the crusher. Here's some reference photos.

With the fun I'm having just watching the progress on all the entries... I want to start working on my own. So I picked one that is less Ferrari 308 GTS and more Captain Chaos... This kit comes with the V8 but I will be using the 6 cyl from the Amt 60 Chevy as I have plenty of them anyway. I'm building it as an abandoned Road side service truck that has been resurrected with only new parts nessasary to make it cool and reliable. https://pin.it/ia7i2g6lwstsaa
