Dale, that looks GREAT! Excellent workmanship. Love the details. The colors look right on, especially noticed the magnesium finish on the wheels and valve covers- perfect! What type/color paint to you use on those pieces?

Thank you, Hanjo! Yes, 1/24. That's the beauty of these wheels; they're so good, it's hard to be sure what the scale is from an unmarked photo! Oh, and one correction- Fernando is Portuguese, not a Spaniard. I chatted with him this morning. He likes the photos and will be adding them to his web page. -TIM-

Thank you, Gary! ? Posting one more shot showing off the cool Fernando Pinto wheels, and then two shots of the stock, Leo Models wheels. They're not bad, but nowhere near as nice.

Disco Volante........That's Italian for "Flying Saucer" ? Love the shape. This is from Leo Models / Hachette. I ordered the model from a vendor in Italy. The wheels are from Fernando Pinto of Spain. The two have been sitting on my bench for some time now. I happen to be waiting for paint to cure on another project, so I went ahead and tackled this one. Not much work on my part, just figuring out some axles using a couple different diameters of aluminum tubing, some brake drums from steel washers, and a little flat black paint inside the fenders and interior.

How wide? Jason, I think your idea of 7.2 and 9.5 is right on the money. Please see attached photos. I took two of your early prototype front wheels and popped them in some rubber Michelin tires. They'll look even better with your new two-piece design with wider, deeper rear wheels. The bigger rear tires are from a Revell Ferrari 365 Boxer kit. The smaller fronts are from the new Revell Jaguar XKE. They're posed in comparison to FIA wheels and tires from Historic Racing Miniatures. -

Over 300 views since Thursday morning, definitely a good level of interest. ? I'm happy to report that the prototypes are well under way and looking fantastic!! Jack Modeling does phenomenal work, and quick. Both front and rear wheels engineered to match full size Cobras. You'll be pleased to hear these will have a separate hoop and disk, and separate knockoffs to greatly aid in finishing to your liking. Sneak peak photos attached. More updates to follow in the weeks ahead. -

Great Job! It looks very much like the full size pickup, which is a cool hot rod. You nailed it! Keep up the good work. ? -
1/24 Cobra 289 FIA / USRRC wheels

Hey Bill, thanks for the feedback. Yes, separate knockoffs and the diameter would be specified. -
Hello Guys, Trying to gauge the level interest in a set of 3D printed Cobra wheels. If someone were to offer these, how many sets would you buy? What do you think would be a reasonable price? Specifically, the Halibrand FIA wheels featured on Cobras raced in Europe, both on the Daytona coupes and FIA roadsters. These same, six-spoke wheels were used on USRRC roadsters here in the states as well. Why FIA wheels? Well, obviously they look fantastic, and they're a key, missing ingredient for a great FIA model. Per this blog, they're one of the 'Five Best Wheels for your Shelby Cobra'. https://www.rcnmag.com/blog/five-best-wheels-for-your-shelby-cobra What's on the market already? Well, there's a nice set of wheels offered by Jay's Resin, but only in a scale 20" or 21" diameter. I've asked him several times if he'd consider offering them in a scale 15" instead, but no reply, apparently no interest on his part. There used to be a nice set of 15" wheels and tires cast in resin by Historic Racing Miniatures, offered through Model Builders Warehouse......but they're really hard to get. What if an exceptionally good vendor, like Jack Modeling offered a nice 15" printed wheel in stead? There are distinct wheels for the front and rear with different widths, different offsets, and slightly shorter spokes on the rear due to the different drum.......that would all need to be part of the offering. In terms of model car sizing, a common diameter for 1/24th wheels is 17.5 millimeter. Wheels offered in that diameter, or just slightly bigger, say 17.8mm, would fit a multitude of commonly offered kit tires. Price? Like, how much are we talking here? Well, you can buy brand new, 15" x 6-1/2" and 15" x 7-1/2" replica wheels in Magnesium for $2,585.00 each through Mr. Fiat on ebay. New FIA Mags New Aluminum versions by Trigo are only $450 each, offered in 7-1/2" and 9-1/2" widths. https://www.trigowheels.com/289_5_f_a.html Resin printed versions in 1/24 would be significantly less. ? https://www.fordmuscle.com/features/car-features/driven-shelby-fia-cobra-continuation-is-a-rolling-wow-factor/

Hey, I just wanted to thank you for the tip on the Paint. I ended up using that same Tamiya AS19 'Intermediate Blue-US Navy' on my Hispano Suiza. -

Agreed 100%! Beautiful work. I recognize the wheels as Heller Jaguar XKE. Not sure about the tires though. They're really small, as they should be for this car. Maybe Merit? @Matt Bacon -

Looks great, Mike! I love the Daisy mags. What kit did they come from?

Hello Peter, The wheels Jason sells could accurately be described as 'Dunlop' wheels. They were original equipment on LOTS of different British cars. The basic design is the same for say an Austin Healey, Aston Martin, AC Cobra, Triumph, MG or E-Type Jaguar. The details varied as far as width, number of spokes, whether they were center-laced or perimeter laced, etc. The Dunlop wheel brand and designs are now owned by MWS Wheels, link below for details. So back to Jack Modeling......my thought was, hey, Jason's offering multiple diameters, which makes them well suited to many different English cars, not just the XKE. That being the case, I figured I'd try picking a larger diameter for the SS 100 and give it a go. I've found they look great on the Monogram MG TC as well. I'll post a photo of that later. For model cars, I think what's more important than absolute diameter is proportion. You can scale a full size wheel down to what it should be, but what if the model you're fitting it to is not 100% accurately scaled? Also, consider that a 15" wheel for example, is not 15". Yes, that's what it measures across the barrel, but not the overall diameter from lip to lip. As a general rule of thumb, you can add an inch to get the overall diameter, but that varies from wheel to wheel, depending on what the actual lip measurement is. So when you're playing with models, there really is no substitute for grabbing a set of wheels + the tires you like, and see how they look on the car. At least, that's my view. Now, as for the Jack Modeling wheels specifically, the only thing I could fault them on is that they're just slightly flat. The outer spokes should have a little more angle, and protrude slightly from the rim in the center. I'm OK with that though. Most other model British wires err on the other side and stick out way too much. The Aurora XKE wheels as a an example.... ? https://www.classiccarperformance.com/collections/british-wire-wheels

Dave, your D Type looks great! I've been hunting for one on ebay and won this evening. Looking forward to comparing it with the Lindberg version I have, and my Revell XKSS.

You're right, Helmut; Franklin Mint, not Danbury. This is what happens when.... A -You have too many cars (Is that possible?) and/or B -You're posting in a rush because you need to get out to the front yard and pull weeds. We've had a really wet winter and spring in California.
