72 Buick Riviera Boattail (Update 18/12/26)
Paul Hettick replied to camaro69's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
One thing on the resin kit that has always bugged me is that the length of the rear from the rear of the rear wheel opening to the end of the quarter panel is way too long. Get out your saw! I'm guessing .080 to .10 needs to be removed. -

No I am talking about the angle of the front leading edge of the front fenders. they are too blocky, need to be angled back more. do a Google image search of 72 Rivieras, find a straight on side shot, no need to worry about the size, then take the model body and hold it up to the photo to check the angle. -
Wow I love the new box art!

Looking good so far. Also you need to shrink the boat tail protrusion by about 50% and give the leading edge of the front fenders more of a swept back angle. -
The rough start on a 77- 79 Thunderbird master. I located a 78 Bird to measure and made scale drawings. The wheel was done by 3D printing. The roof was quite the challenge but am quite happy with the results. Next is to cut out the upper trunk lid and fab one from evergreen. Then the upper forward portion of the doors and front fenders. I wanted to used the Revell Torino as a base but the wheelbase was not correct and that would have thrown everything off.

Bill, how are Tapani's castings compared to Juha's? Years ago I bought several kits through Tapani. Along with giant air bubbles and short shots everywhere, when I repaired the holes in the bodies, primed and painted them, the resin started peeling off in layers. Hopefully his quality has improved but what I received from him 8 years ago were quite poor in quality. All of the castings I received through Juha were perfect. -

Thanks! It will be molded up and available as a resin kit. Hopefully by late spring. The roof I lifted off my 63 Squire, It was made by layering evergreen then sculpting.

Been working on this for a while. The body and rear bumper/ tail light panel are nearly finished. Still have an interior and wheel covers to do.
